Soraka's W takes some of her health to cast. Does this health cost proc rod of ages's passive (the mana return portion)

Yes, it does. I don't ever build ROD however - games just don't last long enough anymore. My average games lasts between 15-25 minutes, which is abysmal.

Because I main tear on most of my champions though, I doubt you'd like a few of my builds.

So overall, I wouldn't recommend the item on Soraka until the meta shifts to longer games.

I don't know about SR, but I would totally try this in ARAM. Just having that HP will help hit the warmorg's heart threshold. (Which I think is useful enough on the howling abyss.

Oh well I was talking about SR. Hah - I don't play ARAM, I have less than 15 games on it ever. I mean it would probably be pretty OP on ARAM considering you get a constant flow of money that doesn't matter if you CS or not. I don't know much about ARAM other than that :P sounds like a good buy though!

Generally though:

More AP than HP: Less heals to do, less HP to spend but more healing done. You won't have resource problems with this, too - but you're very weak if caught out. But that isn't a problem in ARAM. More HP than AP: More heals to do, More HP to spend but more healing done. You'll have a serious problem going oom with this.
