That's kind of the problem. Tanks are supposed to be extremely hard to kill because of defensive stats, not because they get an extra life. Guardian Angel gave them both, so if you had an unkillable tank, they revived and took an extra century and a half to kill.

Evidently, GA wasn't intended to be a tank item, and Riots sees using GA as an abuse case.

Guardian Angel is now positioned as an AD/Armor item, with the intention of making its unique effect less attractive to tanks and its build path more attractive to its intended users.

Was weird, because it feels odd that they put armor and MR on an item that wasn't geared towards tanks, but their reasoning behind the change makes sense.

Yes but at the same time, carry damage threats are supposed to be dealt with by killing them. That argument goes both ways.

I would argue that the item was ALWAYS a tank item, it was geared that way, and they're just trying to give a reason (that makes no sense) for the change. Otherwise, they'd have to give the reason of "because most of the people on the balance team main Renekton and because we fucking felt like it, peasant." You can't make an item with nothing but defensive stats and abilities and claim it wasn't intended for tanks. Who the fuck else did they think was going to build it?

The real reason for the change is because they didn't want GA to continue to be the one-stop-shop for resistances to everything and a free revive for ADCs and other quishy champions. They couldn't give it only armor because that'd be a shit ton of armor they'd have to add or else the item wouldn't be cost efficient. They didn't want to do away with the passive. And they didn't want to add health because they didn't want it being built immediately in lane by bruisers.

Now people actually have to itemize with well rounded resistances in mind instead of saying "if shit gets too bad, I'll just by a GA." Or make the decision to forego defense entirely.

Riot does grasp that a revive on 50% HP is a 50% HP buff, right?
