I think Boots could use a rework

Nowadays there isn't a lot of variety in terms of boots and it's kinda saddening, especially seeing that they add a second layer of itemization to one's build beyond item choices. But there's not much of a choice nowadays with Sorcs and Tabi being the usual go to boot options.

So, why don't we dedicate some of the Pre-season resources to reworking the boot system in order to make them more interesting and more evenly matched in terms of effects.

item 3111 item 3117 item 3009 In particular could use some work, fleshing out their niches and making them more valuable pick ups.

Mercury treads in particular could lose their MR component and be shifted more towards enabling melee champions to wade through the CC-heavy environment of your usual chaotic team fight.

Whereas item 3009 and item 3117 Could do with strong active effects that give situational power.

All in all I see no reason why we wouldn't want to change the boot system by making them more diverse and adding other powerful effects to them, maybe in form of strong windowed actives or niche passives

Boots can't have active effects since the upcoming runes rework introduces a rune that gives boots a potential activate.

it seems that boots are held as vital items all characters are meant to pick up, not for their movement speed, but for whatever passive effect they have. I think it would be better if they were geared specifically towards movement, instead of movement speed being some handy but ultimately secondary effect (like zeal for instance). Id like to see them all play their role specifically around the idea of movement (Like the "weaker" boots already do), Perhaps even being an optional choice some players opt out of. So i definitely agree about reworking them.

Mobi is basically a support and jg only item right now, its being used to quickly get back to map(wards and qspam gank). I feel like it recreates this maokai alistar jg era when supports are basically item-active bots and jg become secondary support. Something should be done about it, being item-active bot really hurts the amount of skill needed to play support(builds like ardent+knights vow+locket+sightstone+coin upgrade+mobi basically allows the support player to be braindead), and brainlessly spaming ganks isn't quite healthy for jungle meta either(mobi making bad pathing less punishing).

The problem is Riot gutted Mobility boots and Swifties. Swifties was the choice you took if you wanted constant speed, and they gutted them to being unnoticably faster than normal Tier 2 boots, 10 MS isn't making a huge difference, moreso since you are sacrificing offensive stats like AS or Armor or MR for that MS, so I dunno why they gutted them. They used to be 60 or 70 MS before.

Mercs get nerfed since hurr durr Riot and players hate tanks and these were basically a tank purchase or against heavy AP teams.

So all you have left is Beserkers which will always be around due to ADCs being the most important class. Ninja tabi which are just outright the best boots since early game is mainly entirely auto attacks, even mage champs auto most of the time early game. And Sorc are just typical AP purchase.

I miss when there was boot enchancements, that was where the real fun came in. It made it actually diverse. You could get offensive boots with MS enchancement, MS boosts with offensive enchantment. Go pure aggro and get offensive boots with offensive enchant and vice versa MS boots with even more MS enchancement.

I agree boots need a total revamp since as it is right now. Games basically are about 80% of people get Ninja tabi, and like 20% get either Sorc or Beserker.

Or you just bought homeguards like everyone did 95% of the time.

I remembered either buying Alacrity or Furor Enchantment on my boots when boot enchantments still existed.

Yeah... boots won't get Actives themselves since we already have an Active from the Runes coming https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/developer-corner/hFIemE4p-runes-corner-hunt-of-the-blood-moon-sneak-peek
