So this new patch and support items...

Personally I think this is actually a pretty ~~ shitty~~ crappy change... Prior to the latest change to support items players had the option to:

  • upgrade my support item into something like face of the mountain, (which allows me to give myself or an ally a shield that could save thier or my life) and completing the quest reward (I'm actually pretty active about doing this) that grants me a permanent shield upon completion and then proceeding to buy wards when needed assuming our team is actually warding.

  • Buy the Sightstone variant to grant my team vision and help protect us from ganks/flanks ect.

No... ! :^ )

Now we have no other option than to:

  • not get the bonus stats from upgrading our support item
  • not have the freedom of choice and play style/build diversity
  • not have actually interesting quests that give players a reason to give a damn about them.

Instead we don't even get an option, the current tier 2 support items will automatically (THE GAME IS PLAYING ITSELF JON) upgrade into worse variants of the Sightstone T3 support items which hold 1-2 wards that refill upon backing. Who the fuck did this benefit? Is it actually somehow making supporting even less more fun/useful?

BECAUSE RIOT ARE FUCKING INCOMPETENT RETARDS WHO CAN'T DO A SINGLE GOD DAMN THING RIGHT.

FORGET IT. NEGATIVITY IS THE FUTURE. EMBRACE IT.

The glory of pessimism!

I tried being optimistic. Said fuck it because Riot insists on antagonizing the playerbase and not deserving optimism.

The new ward items only require 500 gold farmed to complete the quest vs the old 750. You will have your wards early, and a LOT cheaper.

That wasn't the point... It was about allowing support players actual build diversity and varying utility depending on their build path... vision/or situational utility? It all depended on how players wanted to play the game. Now we don't get a choice.

I'm going to miss item 3069 As it's pretty much the only real counterplay in the game to a Rakan Ult or a Garen

But..... tbh I think the change will INCREASE diversity; It's just won't be in the form of the ward item.

The nerfing of ward items and healing active items are going to result in supports going back to AP/tank builds they don't normally do. Instead they just no brain spam item 3107 item 3504 item 3222 and hope for the best. Even though usually..... AP builds flush out the champs more.

What annoys me is Frostfang too is being made unviable. It means Supports who build it are COMPLETELY going to be at the mercy of their adcs, because if they take 5 minions, that's going to now be a full 60 second cooldown before you can receive charges again. It's already a Tier 2 Gold item behind Medallion. Now it and Relic are going to be tied for #3, because Relic is now nerfed on all adcs, Thresh, and Rakan.

All because Evelynn needed Frostfang to be viable at high elos.

The only issue is that we'll need to wait a few patches before Shurelya's and Twin Shadows get reimplemented. But getting the actives back without them being tied to support items should a major boon, since most of them ended up getting nerfed to the ground because of solo laner abuse.

You talk about decisions, but you had to spend 1650g on mandatory items (T2 + Sightstone) before being allowed to make any kind of decisions in you build. That's excluding boots and pink wards. The 8.2 changes drop that number down by 800g. That's gold you can spend towards items you actually want (T3 is also 400g cheaper for the same stats).

Mandatory? I almost always go with face of the mountain on tank type suports and buy pinks when needed. It was never mandatory.

Are we assuming optimal play or ultimate bravery?
Making bad decisions is a choice, but skipping Sightstone for a T3 item has never been the correct play.

Only time significantly delaying Sightstone was considered acceptable was during the Ardent Censer meta.

So yes, assuming correct play, 1650g is currently spent on mandatory purchases before being allowed to make any meaningful choices.
That number will drop down to 850g in Patch 8.2.

I just looked you up. Come on. Do we really need to tell you why Supports want both a Sightstone and a Sweeper?
You're advocating for diversity, yet aren't even doing the basics of the support position.
