Planned Aatrox nerfs in 9.18

Speaking as someone who recently picked up Aatrox and enjoys him very much I feel that if these nerfs come through I will simply remember happily about Aatrox and be satisfied that i got my hextech chest from him. His early game is shit. I say this as a person who mains bruisers like Darius, Garen, hell even Morde. Aatrox at lvl 1 can be killed by anyone and has to poke so hard and play so safe. His passive on minions is his saving grace until he gets his 1 and a half items( deaths dance and kindle gem). His ult nerfs are also getting silly at this point. Even in pro play where his team sets up his combos for him, Aatrox is not so dominating and even in his wins he is rarely the main carry. As for soloq Aatrox-his Winrate rarely gets close to 50 percent at any elo so i really don't know what Riot is thinking. He has never been some 54 percent winrate god. Maybe just after release but his E had charges back then and was shitty to use. Honestly Rito should stop. In any game of Aatrox you have to hit everything perfectly and a champ that requires such combo excellence should not be nerfed. If they gut his early game they might as well buff his late game by giving his ult a new passive which ignores all healing debuffs( obviously joking, but srsly stop nerfing this guy). His early game is crappy enough. His passive is needed to survive the laning phase. EDIT: Congratulations, deluded people. You said that Aatrox is broken, taht he needed the nerfs. Well congrats but he stands at 43-44 percent winrate and is absolutely useless. Realistically he was weak in soloq even before these nerfs and only good in pro play. Now he isn't good at pro play(for which his kit was built). I bet some of you balance experts will still whine cuz you got hit by all 3 of his qs while he was in ult and he killed you in one rotation(so broken). I hope you are happy-he is like pre rework AAtrox(you remember the quy with the autoattack kit)-useless and nearly without play. Anyone who picks him at worlds will probaby lose or in rare instances win due to his teammates. Aatrox has a win rate in pro play of 51 percent(most of those games he didn't carry at all so this just proves that Rito has no idea regarding balance). Enjoy those Riven and Fiora buffs> I bet you good sheep will buy the skins as well. :D

They are buffing his late game. Higher AD ratio on Q, but Q does less damage to minions.

Aatrox can't be balanced when he has:

  • Free sustain
  • Waveclear
  • High damage
  • Hard CC
  • Gap closers
  • No resources

Something has to go.

The devs have chosen a good direction for Aatrox. He doesn't just get to live in the lane and survive off of minions. This avatar of battle thrives off of combat with champions, with lots of in-combat sustain and damage when fighting worthy opponents, but he won't be able to just instantly shove and roam with Q or heal back up to full after he takes down his opponent.

Taking away his waveclear will bring down his pro play power enough that they'll likely have room to buff him for solo queue later down the road.

This patch is all about temporary solutions for problematic champions before Worlds. They don't want the meta to be dominated, so they're tying off loose ends while they work on long-term solutions. They're not done looking at champions like Aatrox and Akali, they're just making sure they don't ruin Worlds with their mistakes.
