Garen

i just saw a garen 100-0 my adc with only his spin.....

is this supposed to happen? i mean you cant kill him.... he regenerates passively and even more with Spirit visage.... but is he really supposed to do that much dmg within 3 ticks of spinning?

What was the level difference? What items did Garen have? What items did your adc have? What happened with positioning to allow Garen unrestricted access to your ADC? We can't answer your question without details.

Also please, don't use his passive as an argument like that. It's only out of combat, and only heals a lot after level 16.

That'll only happen if Garen is extremely fed, is multiple levels up on your ADC, and your ADC is the villain. Otherwise, no way is anyone dying from just 3 spin ticks.

garen in low elo bronze - silver is a great pick there is barely any peel not to mention he has solid lanning most adc's barely know what orb walking is and or cant do it, so yeah he seems pretty damn broken, but you put a garen in id say plat + game he will be countered and shut down from peel, kiting him out, or he just gets shut down in lane by a ranged champ. ex: quinn, graves, gnar. its the same way with trundle seems really strong but gets kited and easily shut down!

True, minus Graves now. Garen can start trading pretty evenly with Graves at level 3-4, and then just roflstomp him @ 6. Even more if he finishes Sunfire Cape. That is as long as you know how to weave through his End of the Line ability. At least this is how I've experienced it and have seen streamers do.

people are still building sunfire cape on garen?

k.

and no, sadly graves is a pest on top lane right now. not only for garen, but melees in general. he has knockback auto attacks, a dash and a slow to work with. by the time you get into melee range of him he already whittled you down far enough to outtank you and finish you off in a direct fight.

id avoid that lane if possible.

I think you're sorely underestimating Garen. Graves has only two AA's that wouldn't really stop Garen considering he doesn't really have that much of a MS advantage and the knockback isn't that severe enough to stop Garen's Q. His smokescreen/slow has a 26 second cooldown. his dash has a 18 second cooldown. As long as you know how to avoid his Q, Graves shouldn't be doing that much damage to you.

Garen's Q is only an 8 second cool down. His E is 9 seconds. His Q also cancels out any slow as well.

Also, what's wrong with Sunfire Cape?

Sunfire cape is built in most games and is the highest win percent build. It gives damage and tankiness against AD lanes, what's not to like?

Also, Graves' auto attacks don't knockback champions.

That's what I was thinking too. Nowhere in the wiki does it say Graves AA knockbacks champions, but I was giving it the benefit of the doubt.

before you need sunfire cape, dead mans has higher priority. and before you need sunfire after that, youll need randuins 90% of the time. and then youre probably not gonna grab another armor/health item unless youre facing full auto attack teamcomps.

item 3071 item 3742 item 3065 item 3053 item 1001 item 3143

are usually the items you should go with on garen. there are a couple of other situational items (item 3190 item 3142 item 3083 item 3102 ), but randuins really helps against crit based champions. and since adc are in every game, sometimes 2 or 3 this season, its almost always a good idea to grab randuins.

even if youre not going with a randuins, id rather get item 3512 at the moment. ill often get this as third item.

item 3068 is a nieche item. it doesnt actually deal a lot of damage to champions since the aura nerf to level scaling. it has primarily become a waveclear item for ap tanks who have trouble csing and pushing otherwise.

garen doesnt need additional waveclear, when 1 spin clears a minion wave by midgame. there is just always a more important item to get.

No, Sunfire is a much bigger powerspike in lane and is far easier to rush. Sunfire doesn't do much damage? Deadman's Plate does considerably less. Now, this is not to imply that Sunfire is more important than Deadman's. It isn't. But Sunfire is much better to rush for a big lane powerspike against an AD laner, especially a champion like Riven, Renekton, Poppy, or Wukong. It blunts their burst while allowing you to do more damage to them at the same time. No other armour item has the best mix of early game defense and offense. Oh, and that extra wave clear is pretty important if you're against an AD champion that actually can bully you, like Quinn or Graves.

And the implication that randuin's is even near core is laughable. Sunfire isn't quite as core as Black Cleaver or Deadman's, but it's much less situational than Randuin's, which is only relevant if a crit-based champ on the enemy team is strong (note I said "crit-based" instead of "ADC", since the crit damage on champs like Graves, Quinn, Ezreal [who is also the most popular ADC btw], Kog'maw, Kalista [though the attack speed slow and active might make it worth it], and to an extent Corki [partly because Corki does largely magic damage] and Lucian is negligible). If you're against champs like Jhin, Vayne, Yasuo, Tryndamere, or Anivia (lol)? Sure, by all means get that Randuin's.

Oh, and Sterak's Gage is a little situational. The extra base AD is nice, as is the shield, but frankly? Garen is already virtually unkillable, so it's also less mandatory than it is on Darius. I pretty much always get it if I'm snowballing though.

10% crit damage reduction, the slow active that adds sticking power, and attack the speed slow passive.

i think you severely underestimate the value of randuins. they buffed it a couple times now. especially the cost decrease of wardens mail was huge. its sometimes even worth rushing as second item depending on the enemy teamcomp. (with champions like jhin and yasuo)

the one guy on the enemy team who is usually the most threat to you is the adc. every bit of damage reduction and sticking power you can get against him is valuable.

garen has the 4th highest base attack damage in the game. this makes even triforce actually a decent pickup on him. and if youre stacking health anyways, there is no reason for him not to pick up steraks. i dont know why you think the item would be less important.

garen wants defense aswell as damage, and steraks provides that. its a really good third or fourth item on him.
