Can we discuss the true reason why so many champions lately are being called broken?

Heals. Literally just heals. From the darius and fiora reworks all the way to new champions like Illoai, what do they all have in common besides being raged about being broken? Heals. Low CD % heals.

It feels like riot went in a circle with an earlier change by tacking on large % heals on high damage bruisers, remember renekton the champion everyone called an oppressive lane bully? He was hated for his high heals because in lane is was impossible to out trade him and a fed renekton in team fights could heal through entire teams worth of damage so i gotta ask the question. Why give new bruiser champions the same sort of trait that you already removed from another champion for being unbalanced?

Keep in mind in no way do I care really about the champions nor do I think they're broken, This post was simply to discuss something interesting regarding a heavily discussed topic.

Darius is the only champion that I think is actually alittle unbalanced due to itemization for him, passive AD steroid for getting 5 stacks, and the Q that promotes counter play but is very rarely open to it.

Because in the case of Darius and Fiora and Illaoi, all three need to land their sometimes awkward hitboxes to manage those heals. Darius has the dead zone from being too close, not to mention being both slow and his Q being delayed that he would still have to manage his axe with. Fiora needs to hit vitals which while is deadly in 1v1 situations and picking off people does not accurately represent her power in a team game. And let's be frank, without ulting, Illaoi's tentacles are rather easy to dodge if you bother to pay attention and, as she says, move.

Renekton on the other hand is rather nimble and easy to get his hitbox in the right position, does not need to position himself super specifically and gets his heal in an AOE healing per enemy hit making his heal all the more present in team fights, and his Q is instant cast making it substantially harder to, say, dodge.

Think of it like this. What if I gave you a targeted missile that can stun any enemy target for 3.5 seconds just by clicking on them. Pretty bull, to be frank. Now let's add a 4 second delay to that, oh and is AOE ground targeted instead of enemy targeted. Well, that's Ekko. Or, maybe we make it a slow moving straight line skill shot and you need to hit the enemy from 1000s of units away to get the whole 3.5 seconds? Ashe. The alternatives sound more fair because there's so much more skill involved in using them and so many more ways for them to fail, vs some instant cast normally impossible to dodge variant for the exact same effects.

While I fully understand and agree with a few things I'd like to say something as well, while fiora was a bad example and Illaoi is something that's skill based darius is a different story. Darius while not having the same amount of oppressive CC as renekton or the mobility definitely makes up for it with his strong and almost impossible to counterplay heal and some of the best base damage in the game. Yes you can say Darius's Q can be outplayed while renektons can't but just because the possibility is there doesn't mean it'll happen, his dead zone on his Q is such a small hit box radius that he can completely cover it by walking away from the champion at which point he has typically already won with the heal, even should he miss by some small chance he still has it on a low enough CD to do it 4-5 seconds later at which point he can typically kill his enemy.

See my post on counterplay for why "lacks counterplay" isn't an argument. In the case of Darius and Illaoi though, they possess heals that become progressively stronger the more opponents they are against. That is not OP. But it is a revolutionary new mechanic. It means that they are harder to gank, and therefore must be dueled to minimize their effectiveness. Additionally they are two of the least mobile champions in the game. They are a direct counter to engage based comps which are the most common strategies in all levels of play.

So while I respect your opinion, I disagree with the conclusions of a playerbase mired in S5 meta.

Well I can't say that I can actually believe that darius is balanced I still fully respect your opinion and argument.
