Champion mastery display during pick phase

It'd be great if when you showed a pick in draft, your mastery icon showed up next to it. I'm tired of people calling me on Support Nasus like I've never played him there before. If you tell people you've done it before they go "yeah sure last game maybe", but they might be less apt to freak out if they could see your mastery level.

Then we get the other side of things, where some players go "Why are you picking ____ when you don't even have Mastery 5? Reported for trolling."

your comment is so stupid its funny

That's kinda the point. More seriously, it's a comment on how annoying it is that we have to account for the stupidest abuse cases.

I dont care whether you are mastery 1 or mastery 7 with a 100% winrate. if Im adc, no way you are going support nasus. I dont care

Well, that's your decision and your problem. I'm not blaming you. It's Riot's fault for enforcing a stale meta and discouraging experimentation and unorthodoxy. You're simply following the leader; Riot's poor design choices are the problem.

Nasus literally NEEDS farm to become useful late game. What good is he if he's supposed to be letting his adc get all the farm?

Mysticman892 votes

I would assume that sup nasus is of the ap flavour. At least that's how I'd play him if I was going to sup nasus, although it seems like a bad idea.

I suppose full tank wouldn't be the worst thing ever, but then he'd just be a wither bot the enemy team could (and should) ignore entirely, instead of someone they'd actually need to expend cc to peel like most tanks.

This is a misconception a lot of people make. He needs farm for his Q to become useful late game. However, my Nasus' core items by endgame:

item 3043 item 3115 item 3091 item 3006 or sometimes item 3124 instead of Muramana.

Add to this whatever big AP items fit the game, and you have a Nasus with insane early game poke, undeniably the best single-target slow in the game, and the ability to clear waves of 20, 30, 50 minions in literally two seconds.

The objective-defensive ability of AP Nasus is unmatched, and Wit's End and Nashor make him pretty dangerous as an auto attacker as well. Not to mention his push. What's more, his AP is capable of scaring enemies away from areas in teamfights and getting squishies to half before the fight even begins.

And that's before you even factor in the fact that his ultimate does percent health damage per second all around him that SCALES WITH AP. If you get that AP high and put Rylai or Hourglass on him, the amount of drain is INSANE. If you put Nashor and Wit's End on him, it's all the more crazy. His ult also adds to his attack damage as it goes, so when you put all that together, his ult just blows everything away once he's got full build.

Nasus is extremely strong late game without farm, you just have to play him differently.

I'm not sure it'd actually help in the particular scenario you outline, since people would probably assume you earned that mastery playing a more conventional nasus top, and while you might be a nasus god top, that doesn't translate into being good at nasus support (and while I haven't checked your rank, I'm guessing it's sub gold where anything anywhere can work).

It'd still be nice to see people hover a full line up of mastery 7 champs (and perhaps it'd occasionally make people avoid dodging in situations they might otherwise), and the show off swag factor would be nice regardless so I'd be all for it being added, even if it wouldn't actually help much with your scenario.

It might also be nice for people trying to grind out mastery levels to be see at champ select who they're 5/6/7 mastery with already if they don't want redundant mastery score.

I'd rather afk in champ select than have a support Nasus

You'd be a fool, I have a nearly 80% win rate with him. :)

So... do you at least understand why people give you shit for support nasus? I mean, Nasus by himself gets enough flak from people for being that guy farming top while the enemy is hitting the nexus, and to have that occupy support?

I do get why, but that's when they expect AD Nasus. I can understand why it causes problems when stacking means you're stealing CS (and trust me, stacking doesn't work efficiently with a bracer). When I tell them I'm going AP Nasus not not farming my Q, they ought to be able to relax.

R FLASH XD1 votes

Why would they relax when they hear about ap nasus support? You could go frontline tank with iceborn and max w

JavelinJoe2 votes

IDK about support nasus, but the idea for showing masteries is good.

Sukishoo2 votes

Yeah, that's some odd support if I've ever seen one and I main support XD

But seriously, Champ Mastery display is a decent idea but in most cases it means as much as the mastery itself, which is nothing. Just because people have high masteries on some champs doesn't always mean they are good at them, it just shows they play them a lot.

VoidStaresBack2 votes

While it might be nice in the specific cases where you're playing an off-meta pick, the flip side of it, with people calling troll, queue dodging, and generally being nasty in champ select because you don't have mastery five or higher on a champion you pick in ranked, is going to happen far more often and really isn't worth the occasionally "Don't worry guys, I'm legit in playing this" factor for the occasional off-meta. Plus, as was noted below, it's pretty likely that in a lot of those cases the mastery was gained from playing the champion's meta position. Just because I'm Mastery Five Soraka doesn't mean I'm a Mastery Five Soraka Jungle.

TahmKench Expert1 votes

This would be good before someone does the math to tell you when you should dodge based on teammates mastery levels. Not so easy now because you have to look it up. See: World of Tanks XVM; majorly contributed to player loss and it's just a mod.

VoidStaresBack1 votes

Just because someone isn't Mastery Four or Five in their champion doesn't mean that they aren't good with that champion. The only cases where this is really a semi-accurate judge are for intensely mechanical champions, otherwise a champion can be honed to a high level (for the player's tier, obviously) with fewer games than it would take to get a mastery icon. Something like a Garen, Cho'Gath, or Darius, for example, have relatively simple kits that are easy to pick up, and so wouldn't take nearly the 20-30 games it would take to get Mastery five to become competent with.

Don't doubt Support Nasus. It's a silly idea but his wither slow is like 99% or some crap. Can't refute the effectiveness of that.

Yep, and it slows attack speed too, which is what ADCs thrive on. It's like Mama Exhaust, with a pretty short cooldown.

I don't know why you're getting so much flak for support Nasus. The last few days, I've played some pretty out there support picks and truthfully nearly carried the lane in most of them. I mean, ranked it's a little different because typically meta picks win, but I still give the benefit of the doubt. good idea with the mastery thing. +1

If you ever actually used flash, people may actually take you seriously. Also actually having some meta champs for the role would be nice to see.

I suppose you might be right. In regards to the meta, I don't usually get to pick my own champion. My viewers challenge me to win with very non-standard picks. As for Flash, I don't like to play with crutches. It's the same reason I don't use Ignite. I use Exhaust because it has tactical purpose that goes beyond a free getaway when I've messed up, and I use Teleport so I can get back in lane or on objectives quickly. If it were up to me, there'd be no summoners to begin with.

It's pretty common for Japanese gamers to not rely on these crutches when they play 洋ゲー. Most 洋ゲー are easier than native games, and a lot of Japanese gamers feel like using "easy out" abilities or builds will dull their skills when they go back to native games. On the JP server, you see Flash and Ignite a lot less.

Ah, wasn't aware you're getting voted on champ to play on a stream, that makes more sense for odd picks then.

As a Christian, I believe you deserve a permaban for having "666" in your user name. Good thing neither of us has administrative power. :)

That said, you really shouldn't knock support Nasus until you've played a few games with him. Having Wither is like having an Exhaust every few seconds. His E reduces the Armor of enemies in the radius, softening them up for you, and the poke on that E is insane. Plus when he gets his ult, he can turn into a tank for you when you engage.

I'm curious what it is exactly about Support Nasus you'd want to permaban me over.

As an atheist I don't think the number 666 should be banned. How would we count? 664, 665, ###, 667...? Good think you did not invent math. :)

That said, as adc I hate non-supp supports (Annie, Lux, Nasus...) so I agree with Mojihito666. Maybe you could do something early but you will be useless late game, even full AP.

Oh no, we need the number. I just think he should be banned for putting it in his username. :D

I build Nasus for maximum push to ensure that even if he starts struggling in fights, he has a purpose. My Nasus at full build can clear a heavily pushed lane of minions in no more than two seconds, making him great for objective offense as well as defense. Basically I get Nashor's Tooth, Guinsoo and Wit's End and run with it. Anything the E doesn't kill, the autos will.

Plus his ultimate, when used skillfully, can change the landscape of a teamfight when coupled with Hourglass. I can't speak for Annie, though Lux actually makes a fine support because she has as much utility as she has damage. She requires a bit of skill, though, because all her utility comes as skillshots.

Hey, OP, if you take Targons and Siphoning Strike a low health minion to proc it, does it give you a stack?

It does, but in my experience it's far more damage efficient to go AP.

SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT IDEA JUST SO I DONT HAVE TO OPGG THE PERSON PLAYING THE CHAMP BEFORE I BAN

because if someone doesnt have level5 + on a champ they play when I opgg i just ban the champ you got me fucked up if you think im playing with someone who is practicing a champ in ranked

That probably works really well in Silver V, but once you start playing in a real division, (Silver 3+) banning your teams champions will cost you the game. It's basically the exact same as trolling, I'm just about a one trick and I once had someone on my team ban Ryze on me in Silver, this was earlier in the Season before I had level 5/7, we lost that game because I couldn't carry. (PS: I carried myself to Gold on Ryze) Ranked isn't all that different from normals. It's fine to practice in ranked, especially in your MMR. I've basically only played ranked this season, I only recently started playing norms again after I hit Plat, do you think I only played champions I was good at? Hell no. And i'm Plat. What does that say?

The Moral of the Story is if you rely on your teammates so much that them picking a specific champion, (Obviously excluding stuff like AD/AP team comp) will cost you the game, you need to learn how to play this game.

Furthermore, Aren't all Silver/Bronze players practicing their champs in actuality? Real question there.

As someone who can only support with JarvanIV and Pantheon, I gotta say: thank you for your off meta picks!
