It is engaging and fun. Plenty of people love the macro knowledge and additions that a support can bring.

you can do all that and more with any other role.....

Yeah, support isn't as different from other roles. People just want to whine about it because they don't know how to play it (which is odd since really it is such an important role because you need to know so many important things). The role is deep and rich, but people just want to be like 'OH my god, I never wanna learn how to play from behind, and what does this Ward thing do!? CoNfUsInG!' which btw is an extremely valuable skill.

Carry? Malzahar Zyra Picking people off? Blitzcrank Bard Morgana Thresh Protect people? Braum Nami Sona Soraka Zilean Play maker? Alistar Taric Leona

The role is engaging, you're just not playing it right.

I'm a support main and I love it. Being the reason your ADC is 10/0? Being the reason your carry is still alive? Being the reason that mid lane saw that gank coming from a mile away and the jungler was able to respond in time and get mid a double kill? Support is the behind the scenes carry. If you play it right, it can be a highly rewarding and very fun role to play, especially if you duo with your ADC. Being the reason your team snowballs and is able to win, or being the reason that your team, which is super behind, is able to turn that one teamfight around and ace the enemy for the comeback win, is why I play support.
