Actually, Riot might be on to something...

Why not create more "transforming" items? Or rather, why not make it so that support items (or at least some) can be stronger, but only through doing "support-like" things? Like, say, eh, Athene's, right? Fill the cup with damage dealing, then heal/shield someone, right? Currently, no one buys Athene's because it's garbage. No one builds damage to make the gimmick work and it's much more efficient to just rush Locket/Redemption. What if Athene's had a more potent, powerful form that could only be reached by buying the initial item, then repeatedly using the passive? You can't abuse it as an ordinary mid laner because you wouldn't even have shields/heals to begin with, and it encourages building it early so you can work towards finishing it within the match time. What if we had a few support items that became stronger by playing into them, rather than just being strong through gold?

Actually some people can build item 3174 and do well with it and get a lot of benefit from it Ivern Karma Lulu Lux Orianna and to a lesser extent Nami. I know some people might bring up Sona since she definitely does enough damage to get the full effect out of it but she also is kind of forced to spam her spells (including her heal) to reach that damage quickly so it's not as easy to build it up though that is my personal opinion on it but I can still see why people would build it on her.

Not the point of the thread, but I do have to bm you if you build this item on Lux or Orianna. Sona's actually the best champ to build this item on. Nami can't fill the item without using W, which depletes the item. Karma, Lulu, and Ivern are aight.

Regardless, the point is that the item is generally nothing but filler, but if the item could become a better item, maybe it wouldn't have to be? Also, if it could become stronger, giving more stats and/or having a stronger effect, it'd help with supports that'd want to build ap but don't have the gold to afford it all while barring out most mid laners.

I had played with a Diana who got Athenes and she went very well on that. Right there, any champion can naturally heal or shield themselves can abuse it, and no, some mid laners can heal themselves. Talon with his q (if it gets the kill), Ahri and her passive, just to name a couple.

Are you bronze? Seriously, because Athene's doesn't work on self-heals. Same for Ardent...

Don't ask me. I saw a Diamond player went Athens on Diana so who am I to question it. Yes I read it myself and see it says allies but so does Relic Shield (and upgrades) in saying melee autos execute minions yet Thresh, a range champion, can get the proc. For all I know, maybe the wording and the effect doesn't actually meet up.

Just in case, while yes his animation can show a melee like attack, he cannot use either of the hydras but he can use Runaan's Hurricane so yes, he is a range champion.

Thresh last hits, he doesn't execute minions. He doesn't get the easy last hits from the Relic Shield passive

Ark Sorcerer1 votes

It is. I have tried using range champion and I can tell, it is not the last hit. That and I can visually see the difference when a melee minion is executed (no Flay proc) with an ally nearby versus a last hit melee minion (no Flay proc) with no allies.

What you see is the second part of the passive, the heal and gold share.

The execute itself doesn't work. I'm on mobile so I can't check rn, but it lacks the x extra damage when the minion is below a certain health.

Basically Thresh has to actually last hit minions while e.g. Leona gets an easier time finishing the minion off due to the extra damage the first part of the Relic Shield passive grants her.

Source: My knowledge about my old main and this being a common question on the boards.

You very could very well be right but if I play a range champion and use Relic Shield, last hit a minion and do not get the second the heal gold passive, well... For now, I will take that part into consideration.

I abuse it with name and soraka, so the statement needs a tweak when you say nobody uses it.

may the stars guide you

Ark Sorcerer1 votes

I didn't say no one uses it. Maybe you could post that as a separate comment?

Good for you. Here is the question, are you a tanky Soraka? Having 3K HP or so or what?

R1NGW0LF1 votes

yes, and it works well enough for me, warmogs also helps to make sure I stay fresh for heals

Ark Sorcerer1 votes

I only have Zyra and Thresh as support. For some reason, that feels really limiting unlike jungle or mid lane for me. Soraka seems to be a nice champion for the heals so I need some input.

R1NGW0LF1 votes

a good solid starter for sure but then you can expand to nami and sona for a utility support

Ark Sorcerer1 votes

Every time I tried Nami, I get the worst possible Marksmen on my team. Not a legit excuse to not use her. I actually was thinking of Lulu because of that awesome w. Best Hard cc in the game.

Abusing a damage-oriented support item with Soraka. Abuse is the wrong word.

Basically like Seraphs or Rod of Ages.
