Are mouse macros allowed?

Modern mice and keyboards can be programmed to do certain things together. For example, you can make a button on your mouse press D and then Q instantly to Smite + Consume with Nunu. Likewise, you can make a certain click pattern and have a button reproduce it. Let's say, I want to rotate more smoothly with the mouse. I can spam a bunch of mouse click in game or I can press a button which spams a bunch of mouse clicks using a macro from my mouse software.

This is not game specific. You just make your peripherals do what you could already with your fingers but perhaps avoid carpal tunnel in the process. A lot of this is brain dead stuff that just causes repetitive strain injuries and is uncomfortable. To be honest, a lot of "mehanics" are nothing more than clicking fast/pressing keys fast in certain repetitive ways so there is really no intelligence involved. Using macros reads no game files and no decision is made for you. There is no interaction with the game software. For example, the Nunu Smite combo won't execute itself until you press the button for it so you could still miss Smite. It just saves you one keypress.

I'd really like a Riot response on this. Would this be allowed in LCS? This is not what people refer to as "scripting" . Those read game files and make decisions/adjustments for you. For example, there are scripts to dodge skillshots perfectly.

No

What makes you so certain? These are standard mouse and keyboard features. LCS players are allowed to bring their own equipment.

To be honest I skipped the middle paragraph of your post

They're allowed their own equipment because they want to use what they're comfortable with. It's a competitive gaming standard to bring your own controller.

Macros are not allowed because it increases your APM, and thus would force every pro player to have a macro or three. It's also something that's champion specific (Elise doesn't really have a smite+consume combo), and so not really as useful. Riot may also not want third-party software that enables macros on their machines.

By all means, use it, it's not illegal in casual play. At least to the best of my knowledge.

Its in the rules. Using of macro keys is against the lcs rules and most other mlg gaming rules.

For macros, it depends on what they are doing.

Having the ability to say "warded" in chat at a button press is completely fine, or setting your active items to your mouse buttons as well, but what you suggest is not. Anything more then moving a key to another is considered using scripts (as that's essentially what it is), so no, you can't make a smite-consume nunu single button press

rtbf341131501 votes

wrong you can and its not a script, a script reads the program from LoL and creates a counter program (user input), like dodging a skill shot. Also I believe it would be need to be a third party program for it to be scripting, so unless youd consider anything that can re-route your key presses a script then no this isnt a script its a macro, difference.

Taken right from definition by googling script https://www.google.com/search?q=script+definition&rlz=1C1ASUC_enUS586US586&oq=script+definition&aqs=chrome.0.0l6.9409j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

COMPUTING an automated series of instructions carried out in a specific order.

I consider it cheating, always have, when I see a lux who literally throws every ability in a straight line in less than half a second and one shots me I don't care if its scripts or macro's to me its cheating. Or when a Zilean throws 2 bombs down in the same spot in like .2 seconds its pretty obvious. If you need to automate your skill combo's then to me that shows you lack the skill to play the game the way it was meant to be played.

By the TOS, I'd say they're not allowed. You probably won't actually get in trouble for using them, but know that you're taking a risk if you do.

rtbf341131501 votes

Only taking a risk if hes abusing the uses of said macro such as chat spam or something like that, other than that not really a risk just using what gamers can use

Scripting actually just means something automated, which using macros essentially performs the task for you with the press of a button; so automated. Macros aren't really even allowed in serious pvp even for mmorpgs, so I see no reason as to why Riot would encourage the use of it here.

No I do believe you are wrong. scripting is the acting of inserting code to alter the game, or perform actions under certain circumstances. A macro is similar to a hotkey, you can assign certain keys to a single button. Most gaming keyboards and mice are made for MMORPGs, and design for macros. Like my Razer Blackwidow Ultimate keyboard and my Razer Naga Epic mouse, which also have software for using friendly macroing. And for the record most macros i have tried don't work in League. Only really basic ones.

No, the term scripting is simply to state actions are being done automatically. They are the same thing although are done differently. You are simply trying to justify the use of one simply because it doesn't require modifying anything like the other.

By the way, not all scripts require modifying the game, some are done the same exact way as it would be done with a keyboard/mouse.

go ahead and use the cheats, but when you get busted don't cry to the boards.

Do you have Alzheimer's and do you understand what this topic is about?

rtbf341131501 votes

Not cheating you are just mad you cant afford a macro key- keyboard/mouse. Stop hating on a simple question that he asked.

go ahead and use them cheats but please, please let us know what happens if you can of course...

i hope riot responds here because the closest i could find in the TOS is

j.Using any unauthorized third party programs, including but not limited to "mods," "hacks," "cheats," "scripts," "bots," "trainers," and automation programs, that interact with the Software in any way, for any purpose, including, without limitation, any unauthorized third party programs that intercept, emulate, or redirect any communication between the Software and Riot Games and any unauthorized third party programs that collect information about the Game by reading areas of memory used by the Software to store information;

i know a lot of player use razer products and you can add several macro commands.

I haven't even used macros yet but I was thinking about setting up some simple ones. I don't think they're cheats anyway. There is no intelligence behind them. It's purely repetitive button presses and movements. There is no external decision-making. Most people are already using primitive macros by smartcasting. Smartcasting simply presses a key and clicks for you. That's a macro!

Dreadlocks1 votes

They are 100% allowed.

I read in some places that only the most basic stuff is allowed. Basically, if you bind a button to perform more than one action, it isn't allowed. For example, the Nunu combo I listed wouldn't be allowed. I don't really know if it's true though because I didn't see an official Riot posting on it. In any case, this game doesn't have so many abilities so macros might be more effort to setup than they're worth.

Using the extra mouse buttons, it seems like it would be allowed to map an item click (like the 2 button) to an extra mouse button. But as of today, the extra mouse buttons no longer register in the league client. In any other window, pressing the button just types 2, but in the league client it doesn't do anything. Is it possible riot was able to disable it?

rtbf341131501 votes

It's not against the rules unless you are using another program for the game (Using external program) which when a person i "scripting" they are using external programs to see where the skillshot is being clicked vs using a macro where you still have to have the reaction timing to move your mouse/ press the key to move right/left/up/down. Plus they are able to detect whether you are using a macro or not simply because it is telling your keyboard to press x keys in x amount of time in x order so riot wouldnt even be able to tell if you used a macro- plus at high elos macros arent as useful, best ones are basically like ward hops or like nunu smite consume and jarvan flag toss and q.

Hyperiön1 votes

You can use the buttons on your mouse, but you can't have more than 1 key binded to the button.

Using programs to do the work for you, which is basically what you are saying is not allowed, and you will be caught.
