Support Gold Incentive: A potential solution

theArtifacts··1 votes·353 views

Finding a way to give support players a means of generating gold without causing unhealthy behaviors is tricky. One solution I've come up with that I believe has some potential is to code the game to recognize which player has been assigned the support role. Once this is done you can enable that player to receive a small amount of bonus gold for getting assists (not kills), assisting in taking turrets, and assisting in taking dragons/harold/baron.

This way only the support is able to gain that little bit of bonus gold and only for doing things that a support should be doing. The amount of gold would have to be tested and tweaked but I think this is a step towards a solution at least on the gold-incentive side of things.

what is wrong wit you? are you new? is this supposed to be some kind of hipster irony/joke post? Do you really not understand thats exactly what the support items are for? They even have items specifically tailored towards "poke support" vs "tank support" vs "(other types) support"

Definitely not, I'm proposing a new option for gold as support and attempting to have a discussion about it. Unfortunately children such as your self don't know how to do that and have discovered that bigotry and insults are the best way to advance in life.

There is discussion happening right now regarding the issue of supports and a lack of people who want to play the position. Part of that is gold incentive (First on the list actually) and since gold producing items don't do anything to encourage healthy support play I'm suggesting that perhaps a system tied to support as the assigned role could produce the desired effect by encouraging the support to take supporting actions rather than be the carry.

Apparently you have no idea why people dont play support. it has nothing to do with gold income. It's because to be a good support, you're expected to be UNSELFISH. put the needs of the adc, and the team as a whole, over their own little kill-bragging rights.

However, most league players are selfish little babies, so obviously they dont play support.

Apparently you don't actually read the forums. There is a discussion going on right now that Riot has started and the first thing on the list regarding support and finding ways to make it better is gold incentive.

Do yourself a favor and do some research before you open your mouth.

You've described yourself perfectly.

i've done plenty of research. I hear it all the time from people I actually PLAY WITH. I dont care about "people on the forums". for all I know, they are trolls. what matters to me, is people I actually end up playing with.

Edit: although ironically, it would appear the majority of people reading your post, agree with me. your idea doesnt cut it.

The forums are made up of a lot of over reacting children who spaz out and just want a place to cry.

I love the support role. And i also love supports playing weird champs for the role and actively tell them to go for the kill or not be sorry when they get the kills. Overall i see it as confirming the kill.

What really needs to happen is people getting off their stupid totem pole system thinking support CAN'T benefit from a kill even if it is a mistake. It is absolutely bonkers thinking that gold starving the enemy and the support getting it at least is a bad thing. Death means more time at base. No death means a recall and a quick run back to lane.

Once fuckwits get out of the mindset that you NEED to HAND FEED the adc EVERY FUCKING KILL. The more better off we will be. If the damn ADC can't secure the kill him self he doesn't deserve the kill. Same goes at any other point in the game. Killing isn't the most important thing in this game, look at pro games, they are low kill high objective matches.

People need to learn to CS more and push objectives to secure gold over expecting kills to just be hand fed them. Until then we won't see proper team play out side of pro games.

Sure i would love more gold options for playing as sup, but that isn't the problem people have. People play these games not to PROTECT or HEAL. They play to KILL AND DAMAGE. The whole healy support with peel support players are rare and tend to be all playing MMO's as healers or tanks so we don't get to see them much.

Real problem is until we some how morph the community we will FOREVER see this crying. Just be happy LoL adapted Dawngates support system no matter how crude, and just sit down and wait out all the crying.

I don't disagree with the majority of what you said. This thread isn't about that though it's about a potential solution to a question that was raised by Riot regarding Gold Incentives for Support Players.

And as i said in all my post if you read it. The only way you can really make it normalized is if you get the pro players not to act the way they do and that is impossible.

People look at pro games and think they need to reflect that in the way they play. So they think supports and jungle have to GIVE the lanes they are in at the time the kill over confirming the kill. The amount of kills i have seen missed because of this is just insane and a lot of support players who switched roles tell me the same thing, they just get sick of not being able to confirm the kill or be yelled at for it.

The best way to fix this is buff the gold per runes or make ones which are hybrid gold and something else like move speed. Even then as the guy prior said, it will cause others to use those runes in other lanes and still get the benefits from them. Overall we get screwed no matter what they do unless they make a support mastery tree or something which involves not killing, csing or otherwise.

There are a lot of smart minds working on this problem and us talking about it here doesn't help them one bit as they have been working through this for years.

As i said in the previous post, the only system i see working is the one that Dawngate had. That system for support was the best system for any MOBA game ever, trust me. If that game actually released it would of changed the way all MOBA played.

This is why I'm suggesting making the gold incentive portion of the support role tied to role assignment in lobby. That doesn't mean it can't be abused but it is less likely to be abused if this is done and they nerf gold producing items.

It does help them to get an outside perspective, if it didn't they wouldn't be making a post asking for input.

What is this system? Haven't heard of the game.

Basiclly when you enter lobby you pick between 3 or 4 'roles' for gold making. One was called Gladiator, every cs you get in a row will stack a rolling extra gold incentive for last hitting on a timer. Another was Support which if you attack creeps or have them die near you without you last hitting you get gold for it (like Coin does). Then you have a control one, which in the game there are these nodes where minions collect gold and take it to this central platform, when you kill them with this gold incentive on it gives you extra EXP and gold, its like a disruption style play. Then you have jungle, which gives you extra for jungle minions and health on kill.

Overall the system stopped trolling and promoted team play so incredibly well that in both lanes you would have a support even if the support was a damage dealer. OH and the support gold incentive got gold every 10 seconds after hitting an enemy champion.

I might be getting most of this wrong but you can look it up on youtube or a wiki.

relatd to that: there is no problem with gold for supports, so long as they actually take SUPPORT ITEMS AND MASTERIES.

if you think the gold mastery shold give more.. then fine, suggest that be buffed somehow. maybe a keystone.

I don't think Itemization is going to be the way to go. Bolster the GP10 on the items too much, and they become broken and used by other laners. Increase the cost to compensate, that's just sunk gold, same problem if you spaned gp10 on multiple items.

I think it should be more prevalent in your Runes and Masteries.

That's a little bit of what I'm saying. Items that produce gold can be used by anyone. I'm not certain they should take that away since if you're getting hard countered and can't farm you may need a gold producing item but what I'm suggesting might be a way to nerf those gold producing items and give gold to supports in a way that rewards supporting.

Agreed here. The Bandit mastery could use a bit of a buff.

If this was introduced gold producing items could be nerfed, and actually supporting as a support would be encouraged.
