We need more abilities like Thresh's lantern and Kalista's ult...

Trying out Volibear today got me thinking. What if Volibear could flip allies? Or if Blitzcrank could hook allies? Or if Alistar could headbutt allies out of the way? The only champions I can think of with abilities in this vein are Kalista (Fate's Call) and Thresh (The Box). Supports can save you in plenty of ways, whether it be through healing you, shielding you, etc., but only Thresh and Kalista have the ability to just snag an ally out of harm's way. Why is that? I've seen Blitzcranks inadvertently save enemies with their hook plenty, so just imagine what a skilled Blitzcrank player could do with a similar champion that can do that on purpose for his allies. I'm literally just imagining Blitzcrank, only with a hook that can work on allies and enemies. You could play him super aggressive, like Blitzcrank, or super defensive. Or anywhere inbetween.

There would be so much you could do with a champion like that. Here's just a random example I thought up. Let's say your enemies think you've been caught out, but you have a teammate hidden nearby in a bush. Say... I don't know... Shyvana. You hook her, she ults, and the enemies don't know what hit them. Or, if you have a tanky jungler or top laner on your team, one that can just shrug a Caitlyn ult off, you could hook them for a block. What do you guys think?

Thresh lantern and Kalista ult are similar, but have one major difference. You can choose not to take a lantern. You can choose to give the thresh player control over your champion or not. Kali is a different story, a lot of players (especially soloQ) really do not want other team members controlling their champion.

In fact, when Kali was on the PBE they actually gave you a choice of whether or not to be her soulbound. That choice was later removed because players were turning it down with alarming regularity, leaving the Kali player without an ult.

Imagine the horror stories: an Ali headbutts Ashe to save her from a skillshot, only to put her right in a bush with an enemy Rengar. Dat Ashe is seven different kinds of screwed, and there was absolutely nothing she could have done to prevent that. Blitz runs into the enemy team and then tries to turn around and hook his Rammus for a tag team engage, but instead grabs Malzahar. Malz is given a one way ticket to the grave, and Blitz gets reported for assisting the enemy team. Assuming the hook went slightly off course, what could that Malz have done to prevent his death? Nothing.

Giving even a slight amount of control of your champion to your teammates is a risky proposition, and the potential for disaster to befall you that is not of your own making is incredibly toxic. If you're going to make a champion that moves allies around, you need to give them option to choose not to be moved; like a lantern does.

No more "toxic" than Bard. No more "toxic" than Blitzcranks saving enemies with their hook, or hooking the absolute wrong enemy. No more "toxic" than an Alistar headbutting an enemy who's low to safety. No more "toxic" than a Kalista just ulting you without warning. No more "toxic" than an Urgot ulting a fed carry right into the middle of his grouped up, low HP teammates. I could go on.

Look, I know that people want to maintain some level of control, and I get that. Have it implemented similarly to Thresh's lantern for all I care. But... just look at how rarely people take that damned lantern, even when it would save their life.

People can mess things up just as easily themselves. Honestly, in the matches I've played with what this board seems to consider the ultimate troll, Bard, I've seen more helpful ults than "troll" ones. Enough that I'm actually strongly considering picking him up, because of the potential that's there if played well. In general, I think someone is just a liable to mess things up for their team with an ill-advised Blitzcrank hook than what I described in the OP.

P.S. Is there ever a suggestion thread on here without a post about the ways in which said suggestion can be abused and why that means Riot shouldn't even bother?

There's lots of reasons why Bard is considered a terrible champion by many players. His kit encourages roaming and most players don't know how or when to roam correctly, his abilities were underpowered like crazy when he was released (and might still be, depending on how this patch goes), and his early game isn't as strong as most other supports (when they have the most impact on a match). Another of the main reasons is that a bad ally Bard ult can completely and utterly screw you and/or your team over with no choice from you. That's horrible. No one ally champion should get to decide your teamfight for you like that.

When Blitz hooks the wrong target, you can GTFO (most of the time). When Ali headbutts an almost dead enemy away, that's rough but doesn't end up killing you. Kalista ulting without warning is heavily toxic, just ask Riot about why they had to remove the option to refuse binding yourself to her. Urgot ult.. well there's multiple reasons he's got one of the lowest pickrates; the difficulty in using his ult correctly being one of them.

One of the most frustrating parts of the game is throwing out that lantern and watching your teammate refuse to click it. But if you make him click it, you're taking control of his champion away from him without his consent (even if it is to save him from doing something stupid), and that's even worse. Nobody should control your champion but you, unless you willingly give it up by clicking that lantern.

Consider yourself extremely fortunate then. I would advise playing the lottery in the near future, as lady luck obviously has a hard on for you.

That's incorrect. Blitz can make a bad pull, but most of the time you can react first since you can see the unit getting pulled. If it's a marksman, pile on. If it's Amumu, get away from Blitz. Chances are Blitz is going to hit whoever he hooked with his knock up anyway, giving you extra time to reposition yourself accordingly. Bard ult gives no such mercy.

This is League of Legends. If something can be abused, it will be abused. Multiple times. All the time. Because this game has one of the worst communities this side of Call of Duty. Every step Riot takes has to be carefully examined for any possible exploitations or loopholes, even moreso than other game developers. Pointing out the flaws in people's suggestions isn't them being rude, it's required.
