Does Azir warrant the almost 50% ban rate?

So I've started to play Azir, not really sure why as I've almost never seen great ones playing, and was surprised to see how high his ban rate is. I will say he's extremely fun, probably some of the most fun I've had playing a champion in a while, once you get the hang of him. I'd definitely say he's strong, but not sure he warrants that high of a ban rate, but I very well could be wrong. At least judging by his pick rate, win rate, and overrall lack of great Azir's I've personally seen, just seems a bit odd.
