Riot, please implement banning new champs from ranked for 2 weeks

Like I don't get it. It's easy to implement a system that says you can't play a new champ in ranked for two weeks. People are first timing them in ranked and costing others LP and a lot of frustration because you let new champs be available the minute they come out.

I had one the other day who said "I've played him 5 times." (Sylas)

....

And proceeded to feed his butt off. We lost LP because of this shit.

This is easy to do and would fix a lot of people's frustration if it had been put in years ago.

Yeah uh, there are a few problems with this.

  1. First timing champs in ranked isn't an issue. If someone goes 0-10 in a ranked game it isn't because they're on a new champ, it's just because they're bad at the game and would feed on any other champ. No one plays seriously in normals, so ranked is the best place to learn new champs.

  2. This doesn't stop people from first timing any other champ in the game, so this doesn't even solve a majority of the "problem".

  3. What about players who actually have thoroughly played the champ in PBE, know how to play the champ at a good enough level, and want to go into ranked with the champ? They just have to pay the price for your salt?

Uh, yes it fucking IS an issue. Ranked is for people who know their champs and are playing for the W. Not to play a new champ that they don't know the ins and outs of. NORMALS is what that is for- to learn champs, their ins and outs, how to work them and their builds, etc. Ranked is serious play, and it costs us LP because people do shit like this.

First timing an old champ is different from first timing a newly released one, so yes it will help one of those issues.

PBE is a small number compared to the millions of players out there so that argument is out. They don't spend enough time in PBE either to learn them well enough for ranked. People who play that way will be fine with waiting a few weeks to try them out again in ranked, but if they want to play him they can take him in normals. Period.

You not being happy about it doesn't make it an issue. Calm the fuck down. No serious player tests champs in normals. You have sandbox and.ranked.

No? You're first timing a champion either way.

If actual players were smart enough, they would be testing them in normals because that is where it is best to test them. But no they take them in ranked and then ruin games for others who actually know how to play the champ they pick.

No? You're first timing a champion either way.

But Riot can implement a system like this to keep people from playing first time NEW champions in ranked. They theoretically could do the same with first time champs as well but the more concerning one here is newly released champs.

So, PBE players have to pay the price for your salt. Got it.

PBE is to test out new champs for bugs and problems, not to get the hang of new champs. They don't deserve special treatment just because the rest of the millions of players are having a hard time with other stupid people who take a new one in ranked for the first time.

So true

Perhaps if they tied champion mastery into what champs you could take into ranked. Say you have to have like mastery 2 or 3 on a champ to bring them into ranked. No more 1st timing champs in ranked. As far as a PBE players, there should be a way to tie your regular account to your PBE account. I'm pretty sure you use the same email address on both accounts so that would probably be the easiest way of doing it.

Probably not going to happen, but it's an idea.
