@Riot: Base Udyr Nerfs vs Ratio Nerfs?

I'm curious, because when Udyr first rose to power I thought the nerf would be obvious: his AP ratios. What made you decide to take 5/level off of Turtle and Phoenix Stances' base values instead? Fair warning: the rest may seem like a rant but it's just a little stream of consciousness explanation of my thoughts that I didn't know how to phrase better, so sorry.

That's not a nerf to the specific playstyle and build that's come to make Udyr the strongest champ in the game- AP Runic Echoes Udyr- that's a nerf to Udyr in general. By nerfing the base values instead of the AP ratios you're reinforcing that build and playstyle, because tank, AD, and AS Udyr were all using those same values, but with little to no AP now that Sheen gives no AP. Tank Udyr is completely screwed over because he'll build no AP. AD Udyr will have to deviate a little to join AS Udyr in buying Rageblade to compensate for that missing twenty. Now Rageblade is a fantastic item and I build it on Udyr whenever I can, but the point is this is a nerf to any playstyle that doesn't build AP, and AP Udyr with Abyssal Scepter, Rageblade, and Runic Echoes will still slap a fat +85 onto Turtle and +76.5 onto Phoenix. If you were to instead half the AP ratios (as an example, not an actual suggestion) it would have almost no effect on non-AP builds and return AP Udyr to what it was before: a joke build (that I still greatly enjoyed from time to time).

The issue was mostly the movement speed it gave. Otherwise, you'd see Udyr's buying Cinderhulk then rushing Luden's Echo with more AP, less movement speed, and the same passive. They nerfed the MS on Runic echos so hopefuly Udyr will die down.

But why touch his damage at all then?

I assume because since Runic echoes is still the only item that gives ms in the jungle, Udyr will still want it but they want to keep allowing him to benefit from the AP it gives, so just tuning down some base values rather than the ratios so it isn't seen as "I'm spending all this gold for 7% ms." But, to be honest, I don't know.
