Shield against ranged, cloth against all-in type of champions (typically melee).

I would still go for the item 1029 x4 item 2003 .

It just gives you a way to survive an abrupt lvl 1-2 farm freeze.

Yea i've been going cloth+4 pots.

Phreak was saying the new shield is only better than the old version if you only get hit once every 10 seconds

If I'm facing a champion that does all their damage at once and then backs off, I go Cloth 4. If I'm facing a champion that pokes a bunch, I go Shield 2.

Some examples of the first would be Renekton and Riven. Some examples of the second would be Pantheon, Illaoi, and Jayce.
