Newbie player seeking Tips & Tricks for countering Teemo and playing as Teemo...

Dear Boards,

I recently have been playing games as Teemo and have found I'd like to learn more about him. Since I've returned to the game ( I stopped playing before the rift artwork changed, the jungle got new monsters, etc. ) I've found he feels more natural to me than any champion I've played thus far. I'd really like to buckle down and see how far I can go with this champion ( he seems like he'd be able to play any role but ADC well ) but really don't know where to start.

My recent matches... My recent matches with Teemo consists of both wins and losses. I'll post links from my Match History ( click the dark colored text ) and hopefully you can tell me what I've been doing right, wrong and hopefully this will help me improve some.

My one perfect match with Teemo was a 16/0/9 slaughter. A team mate told me to use Blinding Dart against Darius as he grabbed me and then use Move Quick to run but I never had a chance to test that advice. The person playing Darius seemed overly cautious and I took that advantage to poke him relentlessly. When he eventually did begin engaging I was too far ahead for him to win and he still hadn't put points into his grab. I built Hextech Gunblade first, the healing from it allowing me to stay very healthy in my lane and would then go on to build Liandry's Torment/Boots of Swiftness, Nashor's Tooth, Zhonya's finally followed by Guinsoo's Rageblade. I briefly had built an Abyssal Scepter but realized I didn't need the magic resist.

After killing Darius twice he began to roam. I pinged and continued to shove, taking a tower and snagging Vi's blue buff. Darius then got two kills in the bot lane ( I think ) before trying to siege mid. I think I went back top and shoved out my wave before defending. Warwick wound eventually begin pouncing on me but ( he had his Red Devourerer, I had my Gunblade and boots and maybe part of Liandry's ) I realized I could heal off most of his damage if I simply laid a Noxious Trap on myself/ignited him. I think was able to kill him three or four times this way. I spent the rest of my time split pushing, using my traps to secure my escape route(s) and eventually our team won.

One of my worst matches ( which I can't find on my match history via game client ) involved me having to lane against a Lux mid. If I recall right I was going even with her until the other lanes collapsed and I then had no idea what to do. I had a similar match recently where I was holding my own but my team mates seemed to be falling in small skirmishes around the bottom half of the map. My one death was ( if I remember right ) from a four-man gank ( all five were top ) and my team surrendered shortly after. In scenarios like this I have no idea what to do. It is also worth noting I have a horrible time using Teemo in ARAM.

Building for success... Building for success is also something I don't know much about. I've only been building the Hechtech Gunblade first because A: I saw a recent video where a challenger-ranked Teemo began with building it and B: I suck at last hitting and starting with a Longsword/3 pots makes my laning phase MUCH easier. The thing is I know I'll eventually start playing against other ADC or mages top ( if I'm counter picked ) and would love help learning how and why to build against them as well as learning more about builds in general. I'm also hoping the advice of the community can help build me into a better player; thus being a better part of the community.

Best regards, Epheamenne.

I've played Teemo a bit, but I'm no main, and I'm only plat.

I dislike / disagree with the on-hit Teemo builds out there. I'll watch Teemo's rush Gusinoos, Nashors, Hextech, and it just feels like those builds lack damage, and safety on a 500 range champion. I still advocate full AP Teemo. Your Q becomes a nuke, and shrooms have kill potential. That being said, others will disagree.

I believe that the common census is that Teemo's supposed to win lane, then AFK split push. If you start roaming a lot, you don't have the shroom coverage or protection. Nashor's is supposed to help with the CDR / Attack speed, but I can def see the Hextech, since it'd give sustain, damage, and kiting potential.

  1. didnt read your post just the title.
  2. counter satin with any ap mage. His main use is to blind an auto attacker and do his damage while they cant. against a mage he just gets blown up and out poked.
  3. dont play satin, he is an awful pick.

I like Hextech on Teemo, but I don't think it's an all day, every day item on him. Lichebane has movement speed and cooldown reduction, which is also good, and helps with a hit and run style of play. Move Swift active -> Hextech active -> Blind -> Auto Attack and then run away. Hybrid penetration runes are good. I like Liandry's. You can substitute Rylai's for Hextech if you need to survive an enemy assassin. Try to get close to 40% cooldown reduction (but the 45% is sort of overkill). Spooky ghosts can help a little Teemo feel brave. Oracle alteration hurts Teemo. A tank can just pop that, run through the jungle and the DPS will just run up behind and clear out all your now useless traps. But when you teamfight, try to have a bunch of mushrooms stockpiled so you can place one in front of you and use it to bounce mushrooms into the front line or near their back line. I don't like on-hit Teemo very much either because he needs to get closer to auto attack. And, obviously, get a void staff if their tanks and bruisers are proving problematic. Teemo has a lot of bad match-ups so if you try to play him every game, you might run into some problems.
