Start with 3 Rune Pages instead of 2

5 roles = 5 pages

Makes more sense to me.

I think we should start with 5 so you can have at least one page for most general things.

Don't forget a page for jungle.

What are you running on your tanks?

When I lane with a tank, I take my standard AP or AD pages. Magic damage tanks need AP to clear waves (Maokai/Nautlius). AD tanks need the AD/AS to last hit under turret and to trade (Sion/Voli/Shen). Tanks like Malphite can go either/or, but he doesnt run a page of scaling armor runes just because he is a tank.

Unpopular opinion. I think having 5 free rune pages, as stated in the comments, is a bad idea. When I was starting out, I thought that it was very unfair that I was at a significant disadvantage because my stats were innately worse.

But I think that if you start out with a few rune pages, you can learn a few roles. By the time you grind out enough IP to buy your next rune page, you would be very familiar with the 2 or 3 roles that you have mastered. Then you can go ahead and move on to your other roles.

That's how I did it. I started out with 2 rune pages and 16 of the cheapest champs, just enough to play ranked. I had one mage page, and one tank page. Those were for mid and top. I bought a third rune page, and began grinding for AS runes and scaling resistances.

To get runes, they cost IP. To get IP, you play games. During that time when I farmed IP, I played on-hit champs. By the time I filled up my third page, AS, I have already mastered the various build paths and playstyles pertaining to champs which relied on AS.

I like to think of the time during which you grind IP for runes is time you can learn to play the champions which you will use the runes for. When you finally get those runes, you'll be very skilled at those champs, because you've played them without the runes. You'll have earned them, and it's a good indicator that you are ready for ranked.

Unless you are a smurf and want to rush into ranked on a new account. Don't got time for grinding.
