Cassiopeias problem is her Basic Abilities
Everyone agrees Cassiopeia needs another rework. As much as the boards like to badmouth her passive, Riot is not going to give us back the old Cass. Thats fine by me. She was oppressive and I believe if her basic abilities changed she can better utilize the current passive to finally reach that lategame fantasy.
Previously I had posted on a few threads talking about Cass, offering my opinion on small tweaks to her kit that would help her regain some of her 'poison mage' feel back.
Riot Repertoir commented on one and asked a question to the thread and it got me thinking, do we really want both of Cassiopeia's DoT's on Q and W? They are pretty much the exact same in terms of the way the abilities are ground cast AoE, and while Q offers a low cooldown, high damage spreed boost, and W offers a long cooldown, negligible damage, slow, they are essentially the same thing.
The only targeted ability on her kit is her E, and while its kind of a cool spell, I am not a huge fan of the E spam playstyle. I like what Riot tried to do with the 2 stack damage amp on E, but after that, only offered damage (which is too much of her kit's damage at the moment).
I also started thinking about the idea of a 'poison' mage, and I would honestly be okay if only one of her skills offered a true DoT. Riot Repertoir tried to get ideas for other types of poisons that weaken her opponents in other ways. I like this. A lot. And lets be honest here, in her current state, its not like her W DoT does any damage anyways.
So with her 3 basic abilities, what can/should be retained and what should be scrapped?Personally, I think that having two DoT poisons, especially on two similarly functioning abilities needs to go.
I would like to keep her Q pretty similar. Its such an iconic ability for her and landing Q's is sooo satisfying. This could be her main DoT poison.
W has to change. Instead of another DoT, I would love to see her Miasma actually debuff enemy champions with either a small MR/Armor shred, or Greivous Wounds for a long duration after leaving her zone (maybe 8-10 seconds).
If she drops it on enemies before a teamfight happens, they have to think about backing off for a short while, or risking the teamfight. This would give her W more of a 'poison cloud' feel, as they are weakened even after leaving the zone, but it is now differentiated from her Q.
I would also love to see the growing AOE mechanic emphasized more. Make it start off smaller and grow larger!
Finally, her E needs to not be such a large portion of her playstyle. I dont like spamming E. I dont feel like a Poison Mage Gorgon Seductress. Decrease the damage on E. Increase the emphasis on the 2stacking damage amp. The 2stack amp should also amplify the enemy debuff.
Because she would no longer spam E other than to refresh the damage amp effect, she will probably have better manna management. Remove the mana refund on unit kill. It was fun, but not really necessary. I'd rather have lower mana costs or higher base mana regen to compensate.
I know this is a wall of text, cause I tend to ramble, so TL; DR Cassio needs other ways to feel like a poison mage. Remove the DoT from W, and add an enemy debuff. Lower E damage and de-emphasize spamming it.
Thoughts?
