The tank item changes are problamatic for fighters
Let us look at a then and now of omen
Preseason 3 omen with some info on season 2 omen:
New recipe: Giant's Belt item.png Giant's Belt + Warden's Mail item.png Warden's Mail + Gold 1000 = Gold 3100. Item cost increased to Gold 3100 from Gold 3075. Combine cost increased to Gold 1000 from Gold 600. Health increased to 500 from 350. Armor reduced to 70 from 75. Health regen removed. Cooldown reduction removed. COLD STEEL passive changed: Chance to slow increased to 100% from 20%. Slow duration reduced to 1.5 seconds from 3. Attack speed slow reduced to 20% from 35%. Movement speed slow reduced to 10% from 35%. Active duration increased to 2 + (1% armor) + (1% magic resistance) seconds from 1 + (0.5% armor) + (0.5% magic resistance) seconds.
Changes to omen on PBE currently Health reduced 500 >>> 425 Crit Damage reduction removed Cost reduced 2900g >>> 2600g Slow duration reduced 4 >>> 2 Slow Percent increased 35% >>> 55% Still has 60 armor
Reminder that this is taking up one of your 6 items slots.
Defensive items are a joke compared to what they were when I started playing league and it is not like damage items have been nerfed on a simular level.
Example of an offensive item that if anything is better for the price than it was in season 2
Season 2 Phantom Dancer: Cost: 2845 55% attack speed 30% crit chance 12% movement speed
Current Phantom Dancer: 2550 gold +45% attack speed +5% movement speed +30% critical strike chance UNIQUE – SPECTRAL WALTZ: Grants ghosting and +7% movement speed while within 550 units of a visible enemy champion. UNIQUE – LAMENT: Grants 12% damage reduction against the last enemy champion hit (ends after 10 seconds out-of-combat).
All the Zeal items will cost within 50 gold of omen but they offer a much more effective power spike and scale far better into late game.
Tank items are being made more and more into being not good for fighters but as it stands fighters don't have many options but to get tank items due to a limited number of items made for them and the fact that most fighter items that prove to be good get used by other classes to a greater effect often items due to how said items work.
And it is not like the items in question couldn't have been made to be good for fighters and bad for marksmen. Example: Sterak's could have been change to a shield providing 55% of BONUS health decaying over 3 seconds instead of 30% max health. A change like this would have killed it for marksmen but instead it had the health it offers nerfed instead.
Other items like Wit's end which was bought by on hit fighters all the time back in season 2 have a small group of mainly teemo and kayle players defending it's current state. It could easily be changed back into a season 2 state and be more popular. It could also build into a revamped Madred's bloodrazor that has armor, MR, attack speed and 42 flat +4% current health on hit magic damage as well as a Revamped Malady that keeps the MR stealing.
Fighters are in an awkward spot. I get why Riot chose to do the tanks first due to itemization being an issue for tanks in the current game but some of the tank item changes are cutting into what fighters rely on.
Sunfire Cape I am kinda on the edge about. It has been kinda to generalist for a lot of fighters and tanks to rush but it is also losing a fair amount of it's reason to be rushed outside of shoving lanes. The damage every second always has added up in trades but likely not worth it anymore.
I will no longer have BV as an option on most fighters based on the changes currently on PBE. It is being targeted to mages and perhaps some AP assassins.
GA is going to be generally worse for all fighters due to it being less armor, no MR, 40 AD and now restoring 50% of base health instead of 30% of total health.
There are a few silver linings though
The changes to Warmogs are alright and makes the item a little easier to justify getting with all of the other items that are losing some health.
Doran's shield should finally have some value as a starting item.
Adaptive Helm which will have it's place but seems like it is treating a symptom of damage being to powerful compared to defense. At least it will be something that actually works well against Teemo who basically no top laners like having to deal with.
