Is Zed OP?

I main Annie mid. I really have no trouble against any champions in mid lane; even the hardest Annie counters like Vel'Koz. But Zed... even lower ranked Zed players. He always are trouble for me in lane. It just feels like his whole concept is broken. And check the threads: I never complain about OP champs. Never.

If your name is Azoh or Bjergsen, yes.

If anything makes Zed op, it's the fact that every other assassin has gotten nerfed.

His Q needs a nerf most definitely, that scaling hurts.

The shoutcasters were talking that you need to be able to play Zed in order to be professional mid-laner and that your worth as a mid-laner was defined by how well you could handle the champion... Zed has % health damage on his passive, % damage increase on his ultimate, % increase on his bonus AD. The math on the champion is obfuscated on purpose so Riot can look at the champion and go "Well, I don't think there is anything we could possibly nerf! He's only got TWO AD ratios!"

However, if one IS to compare the ratios of Zed to that of another assassin such as Talon, he is technically balanced. Talon has a good 20 to 40% higher AD scaling and insane damage amplification as well over Zed.

The main issue with Zed is that he is extremely mobile. While this isn't that big of a challenge for recently released champions such as Kalista or Fizz to catch an escaping Zed, older champions with no gap closers have no chance of chasing him if he decides to run.

Zed has some of the worst match ups in League. He should not be nerfed, those weaker than him should be buffed.

Talon deals 100+0.5*Bonus AD more than Zed in a standard combo. The damage gap isn't that big, and Zed just need to land 3 autos during Death Mark to outdamage Talon, which with his mobility should not be impossible to do.

Haha wow so I'm not alone. Good stuff. Yeah, did you see Bjerg on URf with ZED?

Annie actually fares alright against Zed. Just keep your distance and go in at 2 stacks with all 3 abilities off CD for a quick stun and poke combo. Try to not get poked too much pre-6 to prevent him from ulting you right after Zed hits level 6.

If you manage to get him below half health and his shadow on CD after level 6, stun him with Tibbers, activate shield if he Death Marks, and just kill him.

I think, in some future patch, he shall be condemned as 'overtuned.' Either that or he's going to be the Lee Sin of assassins.

Never played him but played a lot against him and my opinion is that:

He is really powerful in the right hands and baseline strong, he is not OP at all. It's right for characters to be game changing if the skill difference is high.

Zed is the Lee Sin of midlane.

Is he, in and of himself, broken? No, not at all. He, as a champion, is balanced (mostly.)

However, what he does to the game is HORRIBLY FUCKING BROKEN.

He forces mid lane to play around his existence. Just by being in the champion pool, he shapes the mid lane metagame.

Same with Lee Sin. Lee himself isn't broken, but he completely shapes the jungle metagame. He forces every jungler to be able to compete with him, even if he's not in the game. He sets the bar.

It's a problem, because it's basically safe, reliable, strong kits being so safe, reliable, and strong that it sets a minimum 'bar of viability'. Champions below this bar are basically unplayable, while champions significantly above this bar, or at this bar, are often considered OP (Elise, Fizz, etc. Pick a champ that's bitched about because they're strong, and this is why.)

It's a lose lose situation: Nerfing the champion to remove the 'bar' is unfair to everyone who plays that champion, and it's not healthy. Buffing every other champion to that 'bar' or above it is equally unfair in the opposite direction. Reworking the champion, see previous.

Riot fucked themselves in the ass when they let Lee Sin and Zed dominate the metagame for too long. Zed and Lee are literally never going to be unviable, even if they're not the strongest at their role or even particularly OP: Their mere existence demands that the champion pool play around them. It's retarded.
