No one really likes support diversity, honestly

Locket/Redemption used on almost every support out there?

"It's perfectly FINE. Support feels GREAT due to these items."

Mages are picked into the role and AREN'T garbage like Lux is?

"So this is my 32nd thread on how to remove mages from bot lane."

Suggest that we should make more/better support items that actually have ap on them, since we barely have any right now?

"If you want ap you should play mid. Support is about healing people."

Oh wait, forgot one...

Some dude takes the support role and goes counter-jungling all laning phase?

"RIOT WTF IT'S THIS GUY'S GOD GIVEN RIGHT TO PLAY SUPPORT THE WAY HE WANTS TO RRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!"

So I guess the only way to play support is to do what everyone wants you to do while they pretend you have a choice...or take the role and not support at all.

as a support main i usually pick a support according to what the team lacks like if we have a jinx adc kha jung kat mid and a riven top i'm going to pick a tanky support like alistar or taric but if we have like 2 tanks and a bruiser i'm picking an ap support [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

But according to this community, ap supports aren't supports, so when you have 2 tanks your just taking mages bot lane.

People will complain about anything they don't understand how to deal with. At some point, you realize explaining what to do for them is akin to talking to a wind-up toy that only knows how to charge straight forward into a brick wall.

I've seen some folks floating the idea of introducing a third stat alongside Attack Damage and Ability Power that influences utility-based effects (e.g. shield strength or snare duration), which I've found interesting. Could let you specialize into increasing your damage output while only slightly improving your utility by going heavy AP, or increase your utility drastically at the cost of damage, or create a balance and get both.

But is the solution to supporting = Making a brand new stat for like 20 champions to use? That's sort of a waste making an entire new in-game resource for only a few champions...especially since many other types of champs have utility in their kits as balance levers.

With this said, as much as you COULD say "Make a new stat and we can just side step the ap itemization issue", you just create new ones:

  • How strong is "too strong" when scaling utility, especially when you don't provide anything else?

  • What gets scaled by this stat to begin with? Heals, shields, and soft cc easily, but what about hard cc? If we don't include hard cc, some champs like Leona/Blitz are left high and dry with no benefit from the premiere support stat.

  • So everyone's a heal/shield bot now?

So on and so forth.
