Honestly the new essence reaver was a cool experiment but it failed

It's either useless or suboptimal on champions who it was intended for or broken cheese on champions who it's not intended for

it usually amounts to being a meme build item actually

Of all the crit item reworks, this item is the most niche and problematic, while you can shove an IE and make use of the double crit chance passive or the true damge in any build, you can't really do that with ER

maybe reverting it would be better

What is even the point of that change? All it does is make the effect less controllable.

It's more controllable in a lot of ways. Why? Because it isn't tied to a spell that you might use in situations where you can't use Essence Flare.

You could say the same thing about dealing 30% of someone's health in 2.5 seconds. At least you know exactly when you're pressing R. It might as well be an active.

in season 4 it was likely a item 3022 which had better damage at the time

Why do you say Jayce ? He doesn't have an ultimate to proc it? MasterYi makes much more sense with it than Jayce since Yi can multiply it's effects.

Because jayce has been reduced to clutch your mana and shoot a quarter of it out for on big lethality slap, there were other styles before which included more spell spam sheen builds that utilized crit and ER or Tear, but with games being so much shorter and so much more snowbally, tear is a bad item to build on someone like jayce these days. Essence reaver before offered first lifesteal and mana sustain, then it offered the crit synergy allowing PD, IE, and Tri to work well with it (Before tri was swapped to a stinger from a zeal)

Now jayce is forced into a very unhealthy build which more or less functions as Lethality varus

Old ER was significantly more effective on jayce than it is now, it only serves as a crutch now for people who are learning the champ.

jayce by the way is likely the most manastarved AD champion in the game, and his itemization is so poor for mana that it in conjunction with the frankly poorly implemented lethality items forces him to go 1-2 lethality items, cleaver, Lord doms or Mortal reminder, and usually a GA. Sometimes he'll skip duskblade in favor of death's dance or maw

modern jayce options are seriously just item 3142 item 3147 item 3033 item 3026 item 3071 with sub options of item 3812 item 3139 item 3156

Older jayce options were (Using atmas reckoning in place of old atmas)

item 3004 item 3078 item 3005 item 3022 item 3071 Season 2-5

item 3080 item 3031 item 3078 item 3508 item 3033

item 3071 item 3053 item 3025 item 3139 item 3033 seasons 3-7 with item changes

I've been doing my best to keep bruiser jayce alive, to the point that when i take off my piccolo styled Weighted armor I go ridiculously strong in comparison to others in my match because my MMR is lower than it should be for a 1trick, It's sinking me but I must keep going

For honor, I will climb with suboptimal tank jayce

All I wanted was a damn mana restoration item for non-mages, and instead we ended up with a burst item with wasted stats for Renekton.
