Did i make the right call? (was flamed by brand support and am genuinely curious)

Garen dc'd on and off for the first 20 minutes of the game, gp was solo farming top and about to take the tower (would receive first tower gold)

i decided to sit top and only clear my top jungle until our garen would return. Naturally enemy team took advantage of this and they got 2 dragons (cloud and water i believe)

Brand started flaming (no pun) and calling me shit and yada yada yada for not suicide bombing the dragon and attempting to solo it. Calling out my kda as sej like 0-6-12 by the end of the game. (keep in mind this was in NO WAY an ideal game for me)

but did i make the right call by disrupting gps farm and and denying firstblood tower gold? i managed to push gp out of lane once, i roamed bot helped them get a kill and then SAVED this miserable sobs life with a max distance ult slow hail mary shot.

I returned top for about 5 minutes until garen returned, ( a level 4 into a level 12 gp so you have a sense of how long he was gone)

what should i have done?

in my mind im thinking free farming gp is worst case scenario, him getting the tower = a roaming gp with enitrely too much gold.

Although this gp took a ridiculous build path that made me regret my decision, but ultimately i didnt know he would build so silly. (he rushed duskblade into gauntlet)
