"Riot plays favorites" "LC$BIGPLAY$" "Buff X Already"

Like, I was most definitely in the middle of the "buff Sona" threads, but can people that say this line...sort of...fucking STOP? That's not a point to make when asking about buffing/nerfing a champion. Just makes you stupid.

Like, lane assassins have been weak for a long time. The only reason why Yi could say "I was strong" was because Devourer was blatantly overpowered at one point, and even then there were more fighters like Udyr and Shyvanna and Volibear and Xin Zhao using it than assassins like Yi (he may have been the only one, iirc...was he?). So yea, they're buffing assassins like Zed back into favor, and now all of a sudden it's "favoritism". The point of balance isn't "One dude's op for a few weeks/months, and now we're gonna nerf the fucking shit out of them and make someone else insanely op for a few weeks/months". The point is making sure everyone's decently viable. Buffing weak champs to the point of being satisfying, but not too strong, is ultimately harder than slightly nerfing strong champs until they aren't seen 24/7 and aren't straight meta defining (both can go wrong, don't get me wrong), so bringing shit up like "X makes Riot so much money, that's why they don't gut them" or "X makes Riot so little dough, that's why Riot doesn't give a shit" makes no sense. At all.

Poppy, for example, has win rates in higher elos nearing 40% for both top and jungle. I mean, a ton of people were using Poppy, right? They made her a comic, reworked everything about her kit, updated her looks and dialogue, gave her a new dance, and consistently put out information about her in the weeks leading up to her release, right? Why wouldn't Riot hot-fix some issues with the champ they spent so much effort on if they play favorites? You think a whole company is out to get you by not nerfing Lee Sin or Thresh? As much as it irritates me that Thresh's utility hasn't been nerfed yet, I'm not throwing on the tinfoil hat over it, and it was smart not to, because they gave mage supports huge overall buffs by changing the foundation of the game in their favor with stronger mp regen options specifically catered to them (FQC, masteries), something we were complaining about on the boards for a long time.

Worst part about all this? People are bitching about assassins 24/7, and before that it was adcs, but the meta dominant champs ever since Graves was hot-fixed were freaking tanks and immobile mages.

But yea..."favoritism". [zombie-brand-facepalm]

Short version: People that say "Riot plays favorites" or "Because 'LC$BIGPLAY$'" probably don't have the in-game understanding to realize why something isn't balanced one way or another in the first place, nor do they have the patience to ask or the maturity to accept it if told.

How do those champs need buffs when someone like Sejuani gets beaten down into the dirt when she gets picked for like a week in pro games?

That's fucking popularity including all elos and matches

Take win rates from higher elos and you see:

Pro scene =/= solo que, and I don't watch the pro scene more than I just listen to factoids I hear at random. I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not. [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

Lee Sin is still a contested pick, assassins like Zed are always contested picks. Even when Riot says they're weak and need buffs that only seems to happen when they've barely fallen out of 100% pick/ban level in pro games. Their high mobility gives those champions more tools to win games but also more opportunities for mistakes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOcXEsYUJ0Q Those champs are very strong but inexperienced players drag down their winrate with misplays. If Riot balanced a champ around inexperienced misplays, then anyone with even casual knowledge would be unstoppable on those champs. When we get weird messages in patch updates like "Zed is looking like he's almost at pro pick level so we're going to give him a straight up damage buff to see if he can be pick/ban again" while champs like Sejuani might see a week of play in pro games once per year, it feels like Riot are just being dicks.

But if they balance on LCS play, people say "All Riot cares about is the LC$. MONEY MONEY MONEY. They don't care about us. Just their shitty pro scene."

So which is it?

When people say that they aren't talking about maintaining a balanced pro scene, they're talking about Riot favoring champs like Zed and Lee Sin because their plays LOOK cool and produce very tweetable moments regardless of whether or not it's the same shit we've seen for 4 years running and represents strategic stagnation.

Zed and Lee are relatively fine atm. What would make you happy? Them being gutted for a few months? Why, except for spite?

Zed was weak for basically all of season 5 starting when Cinderhulk first came out. Him and other assassins are finally becoming more relevant and strong at what they do, and all I see is whining out of nowhere in favor of mages...who have been doing BETTER than assassins. Same thing happened with adcs, where everyone was up in arms about the "adc meta" when it was really Trynd and Yasuo, then top/jg tanks alongside mages, doing all the work. Favoritism is being used for peoples' own negative bias against champs or class groups out of spite, and it makes me sick.

It was pretty nice seeing different champs for a change in pro games, alternate strategies and comps than just dive and outplay all the time. Not to mention that them naturally becoming more relevant at what they do indicates they're currently in a fine state, not in need of Riot adding an AD version of DFG on top of that.

Riot plays favorites, fuck off with this nonsense. We all know they favor some champs over others.

Just ignore those threads. That's what Riot does. No need to make a thread asking them to stop when we can just downvote them and keep moving through.
