So... if Lee is so freelo, why not become Challenger with him???

"If they're so overpowered why don't you just play them?" isn't an argument

Astôlfo3 votes

Why not? If they were actually overpowered, you'd think that a lot more people would play or ban him and climb?

I mean... he is by far the most played jungler in the game, with twice the playrate of the second most played jungler, Kha'Zix. His ban rate is relatively high, and his win rate is actually really high for the highest skill cap champion in the game.

Astôlfo1 votes

But like, why not just pick anyone else who performs far better without needing to be as good with him? And banrate isn't always necessarily related to actual strength. It's related to perception of strength more. Same with playrate.

So like, for example... if you wanted a jungler, why not play Ivern/Hecarim/Vi/etc and others who synergize with the new CoC Keystone far better? Or for those with high playrates and winrates, Vayne/Janna/Twitch/Ahri/Hecarim/etc?

Lee Sin is fairly strong and good in good hands. But I think that's about it. Even with a kit like his, he's still managing to perform worse than multiple others. Yes, it's probably a tad too high for his difficulty level, similar to Vayne at the moment, but I don't think it's worth all the hollering and screaming people are doing recently.

Also, the new jungle hurt others a lot more than it hurt him, which was the main reason Lee became better this patch, since he himself didn't really receive any changes.

RogueWill1 votes

because you put some on the other under powered champions on good hands and they don't perform in levels similar to lee sin. Take for example Vi, she has a skillcap slighly lower than Lee Sin and they perform identical roles on a team at pretty much all stages of the game. If you put two equally good players (on their respective champion) the lee sin on will get the edge simply becuase he is lee sin.

GULAG 4 U1 votes

Im sad that kha'zix gets spammed, I have to rely on yi now >:(

Nobody11111 votes

He has the highest pick rate in the game at 34.45%, the next most popular is khazix at 17.55%. so yeah, a lot more people DO play him over every other jungler

Anonagon1 votes

I'm not saying anything about Lee in particular, I'm just saying that's not an argument.

Say someone complains about Riven or Draven being overpowered. What does saying "If they're so overpowered why don't you just play them?" actually accomplish? Its implying one of two things: A) That the champion is hard to play (which isn't really an excuse for excess power) or B) That the player only thinks that champion is overpowered because they are bad or have never played the champion, in which case you should simply tell them that because its more direct and not as unbearably snarky.

I don't have a strong opinion on Lee Sin right now, I just needed to put this out there.

B-B-But snarkiness is amusing D:

so vayne, rengar, and khazix aren't op atm either okay got it

Anonagon1 votes

I literally have no idea how you got that out of what I said

If anything, what I said supports the idea that those champions are too strong, by implying that their supposed high skill floors aren't justifications for excess power

the problem with lee that people subconsciously have is that he is very forgiving when you make mistakes. you have the highest base MS in the game, two of the longer re positioning abilities built into his kit, making him hard to catch for just about anyone even when he is in terrible positioning.

Because I don't like playing him.

You cant get gameknowledge with picking a hyper broken Champion

Astôlfo2 votes

What does that have to do with this?

Uhm because you need to have gameknowledge and mapawareness to climb duuuh. Wtf how is that hard to understand...couldnt have made it more clear imo

Astôlfo1 votes

You'd think if a champion is that broken, you could faceroll your way to victory.

You dont make sense, i even explained why it doesnt work like that and you still dont get it, read my first post again wtf. You cant act that stupid just to get your shitty point through

Astôlfo1 votes

And again, you don't read. Your first post talks about being unable to get good game knowledge. But people act like Lee Sin is the most OP thing that ever existed. If he's that OP, just faceroll without any knowledge or skill and get to Challenger. Why need knowledge if he's so OP?

Boompenguins1 votes

Once elo gets higher, the opponents will have better positioning, making it hard for you to get good plays off. Also, it isnt just "freelo", you need to be mechanically skilled enough at lee (ult then flashing etc.) Amumu

Astôlfo2 votes

So then why isn't that just acceptable as getting better at a champion? Honest question. I want a discussion. Bad Lee players are bad with him. Good Lee players are good with him. So why are people making such a fuss?

J Eevo1 votes

Because bad lee players still win more games than good fiddle players for example. It might just be the result of the new jungle changes being very acomodating for lee but even then, he shouldn't be having a high winrate with the highest pickrate(34,4%. He's in more than one out of three games, and we have almost 50 jungle champions).

Astôlfo1 votes

Uh. Bad Lee players have 46.76%. Good Fiddle players THIS PATCH when new Jungle has SEVERELY CRIPPLED their clear ability still have 49.88%.

J Eevo1 votes

Bad sample size, 1-5 is pretty much useless as it gathers people who played it once since 2014 because of the small amount of people who never played a champion.

5 games is apparently enough to master lee though, since you break the 53% winratio.

Spaceman5pff1 votes

TBQH, If fiddle can ever clear "well" he will be pretty OP.

because good lee players are doing way too much with him that no other champion can match

You get zed and talon. Two similar champions. AD assassins. What if Zed did everything talon did, but more, and better?

It was like that for a pretty long time, actually, until the assassin update.

Exactly why Zed was almost perma ban status. He did too much that no other champion could compete

obviously lee isn't anywhere near as a problem as zed was if lee's only seldomly banned

obviously lee isn't anywhere near as a problem as zed was if lee's only seldomly banned

because there are other broken champions. Doesn't mean lee isn't broken.

Requiemsfire1 votes

Lee's been broken since his release, he was the dawn of the mobility creep and the jungle dominance that ensued only to be succeeded by the likes of Rek'sai and Nidalee.

Myrmiron1 votes

You are BRONZE FOUR, do you actually think that you know how the game even works?!

Grimspeake1 votes

Because his kit makes bad players embarassed. Either the bad lee sin or the bad opposing team who let him q into ur adc

Miror B1 votes

"Overpowered" isn't the right way to describe him. He's essentially the jg equivalent of cassio/syndra, in that he has very few counter matchups and is incredibly stable. He also takes an incredibly low amount of skill to play, thus making him a good character for people who rarely do jg but get stuck with the pick.

Ruin Lance2 votes

lee sin low skill

lol

CaptnJakSparrow1 votes

Someone stuck in D5 did just that with AurelionSol He went from d5 to challenger with an 88% winrate just playing Aurelion Sol.

That statement is performed quite regularly. Several players have done that with Lee over the years just like they did with Graves and Elise and Gragas and Gangplank.

The problem is you're making a statement on whether people want to cease having fun playing a broken champion just to climb to a rank where power picks matter even more and queue times are longer. Most people would rather be known for playing a champ they like whether they're viable or not. Which is why you see a lot of insanely good Katarina players, but none of them have ever been able to dip into challenger, and the reason behind it is their champ quite frankly sucks. Had any of them changed over to AurelionSol Viktor Taliyah Azir Kennen They would have hit challenger easily.

Well, Diamond level players say that champion choice really doesn't matter below diamond, and possibly up to Diamond 1.

Outside of that, the OP is contesting the notion that Lee Sin is broken at all, or at least that that seems to be the common wisdom among many on the boards.

I certainly don't think he is, and I never enjoyed playing him. He's just the quintessential fighter in many ways with decent mobility.

All the diamond players say that. And yet there's something that's always noticed every single time.

Look at the winrates of those players.

There's like 1-2 challenger tryndamere players, and it took them thousands upon thousands of queues to get there, and they still only have a 49-50% winrate. Many other players can't even get out of plat 2 as Trynd, and there's only one viable Trynd strategy. Mindlessly shove the lane and hope you win. There's no skill or anything involved. It's just mindlessly shove.

The only time I see the very vacant Urgot one tricks they're around D2 at best and the only time they ever get that high is when the champion actually has a favorable meta. Otherwise they rot in plat/low diamond.

All of those extremely weak champions typically rot in low diamond, no matter whose playing them.

And in challenger, unless you're already way up in challenger playing a weak champion will get you demoted out of challenger fast. And climbing with a weak champion in diamond will net you an extremely poor winrate that is all for intents and purposes wasting time.

For ex:

I made it to around D3 as Kindred in a very bad meta while she's weak af. But I lost every single game I was up against Gragas/ Zac and broke even on Graves games, but only because I am often a much much better jungler than the plat 5 skill level Graves player abusing freelo. But often times he can be absolutely terrible and win anyways becausehis champ was brain damage proof.

I very very very very easily could have hit d2-1 if I put all of my effort on Graves/Zac/Gragas. Instead I sit tilted in D5 playing at 4 am watching my challenger players intentionally run down mid to die because I picked a terrible champ I.E Kindred.

That you think like this is probably why you're not in diamond. People are not there simply for mechanical skill or playing "OP" champs - it's long term decision making and adaptability which is most important to be successful at the game at higher levels.

After all if it were truely mindless and luck based, then there would be no challenger Tryndamere players at all, since the other players would heavily capitalize on that.

Well, for the sake of argument lets just take you at your word, what makes a champion OP then?

CaptnJakSparrow1 votes

In middle lane. The best possible strength they have is how fast they can clear caster minions. Aurelion and Taliyah were able to do this at level 1 faster than anyone else, it made them broken S+tier.

Jungle: It's how fast they can clear birds so that they can outspeed the other jungle to gank faster. Currently Ivern is one of the best because of this. He can be level 4 ganking while you're still level 2 fucking with birds.

Adc: It boils down to the meta. The current meta is assassin fotm, so naturally Vayne is broken + she has a numbers advantage. In a poke meta Varus usually reigns supreme. Early game metas usually turn to Lucian due to his abusive snowbally nature against other adcs.

Support: if it's a lane meta, Zyra reigns suprement. But a roaming meta Bard and Ali usually take charge.

Top lane: usually boils down to very gimmicky bullshit. But the current meta is who can afk farm to get zzrots and mindlessly shove. At the current moment Yorick and Nasus are basically Gods at this.

These are usually what determine the champion pools of the meta. But give or take numbers shifts popularity.

Cass and Syndra are insanely powerful due to their wave clear + utility + assassination potential. So naturally, Ziggs is coming back because he can wave clear just like them while also afking under turret so he can't feed. So, the very reason people pick cass and syndra he prevents, while also being able to gank with ult.

It's also why I'm going full AD Reksai in the jungle. People are picking fotm assassins, more commonly known farming champions. I pick Reksai who as full ad has one of the fastest clears in the game + really strong burst potential and I can quite frankly take complete control of the game before the majority of the other champs can even get enough items to deal with me because Rek'sai is one of the most cost efficient junglers in that I don't need items to pull off good damage/what I need to do. All I need to start taking charge of the game is 1200 gold. No other jungler can take the game under the belt with that little gold. It'll take a good while for people to catch on to this, and 90% of the Reksai players, save for like a very small hand full will actually acknowledge this as well. In fact, LoL's balance team hasn't caught on either and they're buffing Reksai x3.

In case you think Idk what I'm talking about involving Rek'sai.

http://puu.sh/ssIOI/7749d2a925.jpg <-- My cs

http://puu.sh/ssIPV/a9a6994d71.jpg <-- Enemy Elise.

It's not uncommon for me to get a 4-5 level lead on the other jungler. My team has to be absolute dog shit for me to not gain a massive advantage over the other jungler. And once I get this lead I can basically 1v1/1v3 anything.

JedenVojak1 votes

All right, I appreciate your insight. The fact that you pointed to your CS is what convinced me that you at least know what the hell you're talking about.

But if Jungle power really comes down to who clears the fastest, isn't Rek'Sai more powerful than Lee Sin then, since he's more about clearing safely than quickly?

In my honest opinion Reksai at the current moment is infinitely better than Lee. But it's going to take a long time before people catch on and I'm completely okay with that x3.
