I think renekton currently is at Ok condition. And doesn't need any nerfs at all.

Renekton is in a spot right now where he can bully lane if given an advantage such as ignite vs tp or an early jg gank to give him a small lead. Aside from that, any major advantages he gets he 100% earns through playing as-good-as or better-than his opponent in lane. This includes stuff like jax or fiora who honestly have no business being able to trade with him at all in lane away from tower until they get at least an item due to how much they outscale. Their power curve gives them massive advantage late; they SHOULD be at equally massive disadvantage early since that is their weakest point in the game. This doesn't exist though. They are both quite capable of winning vs renekton early and preventing him from ever getting going.

Renekton once he gets essence reaver is arguably too strong. The only way to stop him with this mid game is with chain hard cc and burst from your whole team. However, renekton without essence reaver is arguably underpowered at basically every point of the game. As fun as essence reaver renekton is... Riot needs to de-synergize him from the item so that he's not "broken" with it while simultaneously buffing his power throughout the game without it. Similarly, scaling oriented champs need to have their laning power reduced such that they have to play more respectfully and farm more under tower early. You don't see a vayne trying to duel a draven early and have nearly a 50-50 chance of winning 1v1. Neither should you see something like fiora or jax having that kind of chance vs a lane bully like darius or renekton in the laning phase. Sure mid game if they weren't punished they have an even chance and late game they should have a much better than 50% chance. But likewise, the lane bully should have that same better than 50% chance in lane. While they do have a better than 50% chance, it's definitely not nearly the same braindead forgiving margin jax or fiora find themselves with later into the game.

Renekton isn't op and needing nerfs. In fact even if he were at 51% winrate, he could arguably be considered underpowered. The current meta rewards early snowballing and fast wins. So champs like renekton who are designed to do just that should be at the VERY TOP of the winrate charts. The fact that he's sub 50% winrate just goes to illustrate the point that he is in fact underpowered and too dependent on essence reaver to even stand a chance of relevancy. Remove or nerf that item and he would fall into unplayable troll pick class of toplaners. And this in a meta that he is perfectly suited for. Renekton buffs are long overdue - as winrate shows... but I can't blame Riot too much for not giving them due to how strong renekton becomes with essence reaver.

well here's the problem, Renekton is in a spot where if he gets buffed, he's too strong, if he gets nerfed he's too weak, he's meant to bully early, that's his whole niche.
