Can someone explain why Ekko has been getting banned 100% lately?

Riot is basically unable to balance him.

He brings so much base damage, CC, and utility that he can build tank and 1-shot, and every time they nerf his utility they buff his AP, so his AP is now cancer too. It's a deadly cycle.

And every single ability of his is annoying as shit to play against.

tank ekko is unbalanced. So that is annyong. But its not unbeatable. and his skill shots are pretty easy to manage. I would know. I use him alot. Ive gone against him alot

why isnt it balanced

Because ill just build a ga and then ill have 3 lives. all of which are incredibly hard to kill. And with a nice stun team fights can be super easy

this means so little if you have no damage to do anything with. Even when you hit the towers your damage is minimal and you have no attack speed.

His lane push is shit His teamfight stun is strong if people are clusterfucking around with no tenacity but then alot of people learn not to do this in the first year of playing.

The only thing really wrong with tank ekko is that he is sometimes hard to see after blinking somewhere

MÖRTIMER1 votes

his passive will always do alot of damage on 3rd hit. regardless. and the ult will do damage too. but you made a great point. people usually are "clusterfucking" in team fights. usually. so a big stun will make a hell of a difference late game. plus, Ekko can zone out an adc easy if he wants as a tank. SOOOOOOOOOOOOO yeah.

It is because when Riot tried to balance him, they tried to make it in a way where champs like these won't fall off if they don't fulfill one specific role (assassins referring to feast or famine). Instead, they gave champs like Ekko an opportunity to adapt to the meta. They increased base damage thinking it would help champs that are very strong at dueling but weaker against champs who push wave hard during laning. This causes champs like Ekko and Zed and the like to fall behind considerably. At the end of the day this is the best way to balance assassin's in comparison to the unintended side effect of increasing base damage which was Tank Ekko.

No one is saying he is unbeatable. Technically in higher and more competitive MMR, Kindred was a much bigger threat. There are plenty of champs in higher ELO that generate better win %; not saying that concludes how balanced they are. Ekko is not balanced. It takes very little skill to play and his entire kit is basically low risk high reward. There aren't many champs that are considered low risk high reward but all of them are considered high tier (ie. Lucian. lol at people who are all of a sudden Lucian mains). Yet despite being extremely easy to play and yielding high reward, you can be behind (mind you not severely) and do more than most of your lane opponent as Ekko. And on top of his already high mobility and safe kit AND high base damage, he is now building tanky which also boost his dueling potential significantly in team fights where it is BETTER than the intended origin of Ekko's kit which was AP. I mean AP Ekko's don't generally have a lot of success in comparison to the Tank build. Sometimes when things go a certain way you didn't expect, it's not always bad... but in this case you can't deem it good either. They had a specific idea they intended Ekko to have and it did NOT go that way, it actually made him much stronger.

You can argue Riot ninja'd this because champs like Ekko/Zed are "cool" and flashy thus very marketable. They want people to use champs like this and make cool looking plays because those sell the most. This is all strictly a business move. Riot has no intention of balancing the game. Then you'd see some Janna/Lee nerfs as well as Lucian nerfs and buffing many ADC's so there is at least SOME gap lessened between Jhin/Lucian and the rest of the ADC's at like below 10% pick rate. You'd see nerfs on Thresh (I mean I love Thresh but c'mon... he's extremely strong). At the end of the day this kind of behavior actually gets them more customers and players so I don't know. I hate Ekko's state but what are you gonna do? You have to evolve as a player.

you explained why it can be argued that ekko is toxic to this game

you did not explain why he is overpowered very well.

I have never been 1 shotted by a tank ekko unless I was behind.

But then alot of champs built tank could have done this, I'm not buying this.

never said 1 shot. hes not the damage doer. hes the zoner, cc, and tank.

No riot are able to balance him they just refuse to do the obvious and rework his W.

Ekko is an assassin but has several low CD/reliable slows which is near perma-slow then top that with iceborn makes it actual permaslow if they removed 2 of his slows that would greatly fix ekko but still nerfs assassin ekko. (I also count 2+ low CD/reliable 40%+ slows as perma-slows which I include as hard-CC for the point down below and for the future.)

Now the REAL way to fix ekko for now and forever is a rework to his W again ekko was made to be an assassin even if it's not easy to land at first once you put practice in it becomes much easier to land and even if you don't land it it becomes a huge zoning tool. An assassin should NEVER have a reliable or AoE Hard CC Nor multiple Hard CCs especially one that's not on an ultimate ability that cannot be interrupted (shaco has an AoE hard cc too but boxes are destroyable beforehand).

If riot reworked ekko's W that would immensely fix tank ekko entirely and can be reworked into something to further help assassin ekko. Not saying I have any ideas sadly but reworking Ekko's W is the safest bet because tank ekko also is much easier to land W since he will survive a screw up enough to get into it making it an actual reliable CC.

Also assassin ekko is fair to deal with tank ekko is a ton of issues that shouldn't have happened if riot looked back at why they removed a lot of hard ccs and silences from assassins in the first place.

Leopards Ghost1 votes

his kit is op. you can't nerf him. he's the new blitz, deal with it.

EcchiOtakuTM1 votes

Hence why I just suggested the problem with ekko.......

He has something assassins shouldn't have if they reworked that tank ekko would disappear unless you really want to niche it and assassin ekko would be the way it should have been.

CerealBoxOfDoom1 votes

maybe because people are moaning about it on the forums all the time and 1 in 5 on every team cries about ekko begging them to ban him because they have no real banning strategy.

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

next patch his ap builds gonna get much stronger. 1.5 ap ratio on ult. all my job will be is land my ult. its hard but ult alone will one shot a squish next patch. build gonna be 4 deathcaps 1 ludens and 1 voidstaff

MÖRTIMER1 votes

why 4 death caps the unique passive doesnt do anything after the first. better to get other ap items

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

for the 120 ap. though it might be a better idea to build archangel and ROA. as i would get about as much ap anyway.

not a serious build but i would do it in normals. 4 deathcaps too much gold.

Because most players in the game are in silver and bronze.
