Say you pick Lux in TB, but the enemy mid-laner is Talon. Is there ANYTHING you can try?

Or should you just punch out and get Leaverbustered rather than face the hard-counter?

You can switch lanes with your Top Laner.

Or you can turret hug pathetically, farming with your ridiculous range until you can roam bot or your jungler ganks. Then you eventually land a snare on Talon and 100-0s him from there.

Switching into Gnar as Lux doesn't really work...

Bring Lube.

I prefer to sit under tower and cry until late-game.

You beat the crap out of him pre6, buy a tear, and then never come in range of his blink.

darkdill1 votes

I honestly think Tear on Lux isn't a good idea because she charges it too slowly. Better to go Chalice.

item 3040 -> item 3089 is very dominant. I use it with Lucidity boots and CDR Quints.

You could just try to stay back and farm and not get killed. I think you are supposed to go item 3070 into item 3191 and you should be able to survive his all in potential and have enough mana to stay in lane for awhile. Also just because you are "countered" in lane doesn't mean it is guaranteed you will lose. Other people can and will make mistakes, which you will hopefully be able to take advantage of. Also there will be times you will be countered in a lane matchup, so it is best to learn how it goes for future reference.

Great response. Personally I'd towerhug and farm from a distance because Lux's kit allows that. It's okay to miss a little farm. Being a little underfarmed is better than your lane opponent being 5/0.

For some reason, people of League aren't intelligent enough to understand this.

NoMonku1 votes

Also as a follow up, not just against Talon, but for all assassins in general, they need kills to get ahead. You sacrificing some CS is much better then you giving the assassin 300g from your death. If they can't 100-0 you they aren't really doing their "job" so doing your best to deny them doing it is the best way to play.

RocketRelm2 votes

You're actually kind of okay against Talon. You're ranged, he's melee. The sole reason you play Lux is to be a dick by weaving casts of your e and your /laugh together. Just don't ever let him get close enough to engage you, and E him every time he tries to farm. Make sure your E casts don't actually hit the minions so as not to push the wave, unless he's pushing the wave himself. Let the wave come in, focus heavily on mana sustain, get your blue. Watch for a talon flash-engage, though, and play defensively. Remember to ward a bit and not get caught out by the jungler. If he plays too aggro when you farm under turret, get your jungler to come in and double team his sorry a*s.

Basically, the same as most other flash-engagers (annie for example). Talon lost a LOT of his 'counters Lux' status with the loss of his silence anyway.

About Armor, get enough mana to be able to sustain from farming under turret. Try to farm with autos if you know how and to save E for harassing him instead of not hitting him with the E. Your e hits on him will add up, poke him out of the lane. Hourglass is a good first item, but you will need to be spamming spells a LOT, so that is priority #1.

So either Chalice or Forbidden Idol first?

I'd say forbidden idol for morellos or tear first. I have a hard time justifying athenes, and if you buy chalice then don't upgrade it first. You do want the seekers. You "can" just buy chalice, then seekers, and just never upgrade the chalice, if that's enough mana.

One thing I should point out is that Blue buff gives you a % of your Maximum Mana as MP/5, so getting a tear actively increases the efficiency of Blue Buff on you.

katt51 votes

Why not just go for Zhonyas first, every time he tries to initiate on you Zhonyas active? /confused

I would honestly go Morellos before Athenes since Athenes give you MR and you don't need that vs a Talon. Also you can just buy mana pots and get Zhonyas, then focus on one of the mana/cdr items.

darkdill1 votes

Because Lux's E costs too much. If you don't get mana regen, you can't turtle under a turret without burning out.

katt51 votes

Just get some mana pots, rush Zhonyas, then get started on other items. The extra Armor helps along with the active. Or, if you have to, just buy Forbidden Idol then go into Zhonyas.

Tbh Talon shouldn't be that hard a matchup anyways now that his silence is gone. Also Lux's W shields on cast now so it's a lot easier to use it to block damage.

katt52 votes

Literally just turret-hug, E farm, when Talon inenvitably roams ping and hope to hell your team listens.

The good thing about Lux is that she can also pull back into a bit more of a supporting role so if hopefully somebody on your team gets ahead (preferably your ADC) you can just shield/peel/make vision with E for them, and keep them alive no matter what.

Hullabaloo9071 votes

Also, if you and talon both come out of lane 0/0, you will be a lot more useful.

Omniphonic1 votes

alter your build slightly so you can't get 1 comboed to death? build Rod of Ages, catalyst passive will help keep you from going low and getting dove, right into Hourglass for the armor and passive stasis. far be it from me to suggest pure glass cannon might not be the ultimate build in every scenario, I guess i'm not pro enough to build like a retard. lol.

darkdill2 votes

Tried going Seeker's first, still got slaughtered. Or is armor-rushing against a Talon a trap?

Hullabaloo9071 votes

Talon has a harder time with a large health pool than other assassins because he has no innate % health damage. Some talons build botrk as a 4th or 5th item, but he needs the flat damage early on to ensure that he can murder the adc fast enough. This means an ROA wont make you good against him, but might help you get through lane without feeding.

If your support player is using someone who is a capable mid laner like Zilean Zyra Velkoz

Switch with them.

I've done it all the time, our mid laner got hard countered at several times, so I just went mid lane Zilean with their support Xerath / Brand / Syndra

Of all the fairly squishy mages you can come up with, Lux is a pretty poor example.

darkdill1 votes

I'm not using Lux as an example of a squishy mage. I'm just saying Lux vs. Talon in particular.

Trebbi1 votes

Uhm you can be a man or a woman and just bite the bullet and try your hardest?

agbudar1 votes

bait his dash snare and profit shouldn't be too hard to hit that point blank.

ofc you should not let yourself get harrassed too much otherwise you are dead.

its a skill match up honestly.

WhiskerWow1 votes

It's not actually that bad. Farm and poke, and once he hits level 6, turret hug. Build some armor and mana regeneration, and rely on ganking other lanes for your kill money.

Yosuke Apperu1 votes

Wait... how is talon exactly a hard counter to lux?...

darkdill2 votes

Kills her instantly, can blink-dodge her spells with ease, and Lux can't really get too much in the way of durability.

3TWarrior1 votes

he can blink dodge an E that can cover all of his minions or both front lines? of course Q would be easier to dodge though

Yosuke Apperu1 votes

So bait out the cutthroat with an E, and if he does cutthroat q before cutthroat is back up, it starts out with a relatively high cool down and besides that lux out ranges talon so hard with all of her abilities, if he runs at you, you run away.. or q him in the face as your q range is way further than his cutthroat.

Moulin Rouge1 votes

I would go item 3114 into a rush for item 3157 and if he's really owning you then item 3143

But why is he even crushing you anyway? Poke from afar (DO NOT AUTO HIM UNLESS IT'S LEVEL 2 OR HE SUCKS SO BAD THAT YOU CAN Q HIM WHEN HE BLINKS AND WIN THE TRADE)

If he does manage to get into range, W your self and Q him before he gets away. Rush Hour glass so when he ults you, you can block his whole combo and make him waste it. Or at least waste the first part of his combo.

Keep your q for when he blinks to you.

darkdill1 votes

You can't farm with just your E, and if you try to AA farm, he'll jump you.

Moulin Rouge1 votes

that's when you use Q when he's on top of you. Block his rake with W

Meep Man1 votes

They should reduce the cool down on her Q and the cool down and mana cost on E.

Currently, the cool down of her Q is 15/14/13/12/11 second. Thats really high. It should be more, 12/11/10/9/8 seconds. Her E has a mana cost of 70/85/100/115/130 mana. It should be 65/70/75/80/85 mana. The cool down is 10. That's an ok cool down, but having it become 10/9.5/9/8.5/8 seconds would be great.

darkdill1 votes

The 2-second snare is what prevents that. Also, Meddler said her E's high mana cost is intentional because of its range and blast size making it so reliable. That said, I still think it could afford to have its cost changed to 60/75/90/105/120 mana.
