Well-
Maybe tone back on the true damage then?
Why not fix what was originally the problem, instead of going for short-term bandaid solutions (the complete removal of resistances)?
Of course, that is the most obvious way to fix the issue. And that's exactly why Riot isn't going to do it - less damage means less flashy plays in streams and pro plays. It also means admitting they were wrong, which - as Tencent slowly enforces more and more of chinese culture onto Riot - is the same as resigning from your job within Riot, as they will be fired on the day if they even imply they do not have 100% control at all times.
Salt aside, true damage is here to stay. Riot already proved this with their "fix" for conqueror - rather than decreasing its true damage, they decrease the meaningless bonus AD, thus cementing their stance on true damage.
The only way they could fix this issue is to introduce more health into the game. Of course, that of course means everybody will be able to face tank our papermache towers even earlier, but that really stopped mattering the instant they introduced yet another gimmick to help champions with 4 dashes tower dive people.
Honestly, League of Legends is never going to be "good" again. Whatever they introduce in season 9, it's only going to dig us deeper. At this point, Riot is simply seeing how far they can go before the playerbase ACTUALLY gives up. They know most players have invested so much into the game that they're not going to quit regardless of how much they suffer.
Short band-aid solutions > admitting you were wrong and rolling back the main issue.
