I know such changes aren't that important, and that most people are used to knowing what each item does based on the item's visual but think about it...
If Riot were to go through with such a change, and people learned to remember what each new item does based on the new item visual how much it would make things more clearer. And honestly, it would look a lot more subtle, for me atleast. I would love for my build to look something like this for Varus for example...
Arrow
Gloves
Cloak
Armor Piece
Boots
No, it's one thing to update Lichbane to look like a modern, prettier version of the clunky old icon. It's another entirely if they decided that Lichbane was no longer two crossed swords with magical red fire, but were now instead magical shurikens with blue mist. That's TOO confusing, and will fuck up people completely.
What you're suggesting would butcher items and reinvent them and rename them and just overall instill chaos for anyone trying to play the game who's played it for the past decade, just so Varus could use all bows and arrow weapons.
The problem with what you're recommending is that it's limiting, because for items like Black Cleaver, they work extremely well on characters like Darius and Sion - but Miss Fortune and Lucian can also use them well too due to how their kits interact with the item. There is no way to limit weapons to champions, because champions will always use items that benefit them the most. Catering their item looks to the champion class is silly in this regard, because you cannot possibly appease all sides here. It's better the items are the way they are, because there will be mixing regardless.
