Why hasn't there been an overall base MS update?

Champion's base move speeds could definitely use an updates to help carve out the roles of champions and help diversify champion niches. For example, assassins move speed in general doesn't feel all that different from mages, especially once both get tier 2 boots. Maybe Riot should look do a overhaul on it like they did on mana regen after mana pots were removed

They did this a while back when they moved everyones speed up 25 from base 300-330 to 325-355. It was because boots were a must buy and they wanted to increase diversity in starting items. It worked and we still have different roles taking different items at least.

Then they added enchantments and everyone realized homegaurds wasn't optional but rather setting everyone 475 gold back so they added them for free. Then everyone just bought alacrity boots making the entire game 20ms faster. This was ended up being unhealthy for the game and was the main reason boot enchantments were removed.

Well most adcs bought furor actually

One furor and four alacrity per team doesn't make alacrity look all that much better.

Then again, furor was part of the problem I guess, because all enchantments were removed. If it was only alacrity, they could have just removed it alone.

Then everyone builds the next best thing. That gets removed, so does the thing after that now we got 1 enchantment left. THat eventualy bites the dust so they just jumped over the slope.

Yup, basically.

not exactly. The changes back then had a totally different purpose than MistakenKing's suggestion. Back then, they lowered the ms from all boots by 25 and increased all base ms by 25, makeing it so that starting with boots wasn't mandatoryfor nearly all champs. The didn'change the base MS of champs relative to each other. Boots enchants again was something that applied to all champions the same.

What the OP suggests is that we get a wider reach in base MS and for a clear destinction between individual champs, and focus some classes on haveing more base ms compared to others. Cause right now, you have an assasin like Talon with 335ms and a marksmen like Quin, who also has alot of mobillity from her kit while beeing ranged, with 335ms aswell, you have a melee fighter like XinZhao that needs to stick to a target in melee range to do anything at only 5 more ms than a highranged poke/artillery mage like Velkoz .

The extremly small differences between base MS, especially for ranged vs melee, means that most melees need either high cc or very potent mobillity tools in their kit, leading to the current mobillity creep, as there's no way of catching up to a ranged champ without either ranged cc or a gapcloser. On top of that, ranged champs generally have much better items for in combat mobillity aswell...

yah, Riot said that one of core strengths of assassins was their mobility yet mages and assassin base move speed are basically the same. Definitely feels like a unique strength on assassins over mages.

I agree, it just doesn't make sense when a mage moves as fast (base movement speed of course) as an assassin. In general, I would say Assassins should just flat out move 20-25 units faster than Mages and ADCs, with Bruisers, Tanks, and such having maybe 5-15 more units simply to help them get into the center of the fight like they usually do. Why would a mage, who hits people from far away, need the movement speed one would only use to get next to the enemy?

Now of course, this is a massive generalization, and some roles/champions would need a few adjustments, but overall I feel the above is a decent rule.

Not to mention a lot of mages get item 3285 which grant 10% bonus movement speed, making them usually faster than assasins

Why would an assassin, which tend to have a lot of mobility in their kit, need more base movement speed than a squishy immobile champion?

Oakleaf Ranger6 votes

Because they have safer ranged damage methods than the squishy assassin?

And have no way to get away from said assassin. you know how bad it feels when the zed just walks out of a bush, ults you, does his combo, and starts backing in the middle of the lane and watch as you die

Oakleaf Ranger2 votes

If he is walking out of a bush then that means you put your self in vulnerable position when you had no vision of the assassin. That's basically ringing the dinner bell for an assassin, especially if they are able to get within a certain distance of you without you realizing how close they are.

They kinda do this with melee vs ranged but the you have Heimerdinger who is as fast as Shen.

remove boots and adjust MS properly incoming!

And potentially change Cassiopeia

That would need a lot of other adjustments (there are no sources of tenacity aside from mastery, for example), but in general I can see some merit in this idea.

base ms or flat values are way too powerful

assassin items got ooc ms on them but they are pretty bad atm

I wouldn't say no to some MS buffs on my man Xin Zhao...

Skillshots would be weakened further, especially the slow ones. Although I'm all for making Morg Q easier to dodge...

Slow champions would be harder to kite with dashes and the like, so range and such would have to be adjusted.

Damage would need to be sped up or else early game would be safer with less time taken to walk under tower.
