I am livid

I've tried. I've tried for the last few minutes to write something polite. Something nice. Something acceptable on a public discussion board like this. I can't.

You saw Zed. You gave him a slight attack speed nerf and now putting a one second cooldown on his get out of jail free card.

You saw Leblanc. You gave her minimal ratio nerfs.

You saw Riven. You slightly nerfed her movement speed and how fast her ult travels.

You saw Katarina. You slightly buffed her health per level and slightly nerfed her base health and health regen.

You saw Lee Sin. You left him as is.

You saw Ryze, who was not even close to being half as problematic as any of these. You broke his arms, shoved a pinecone up his ass and pushed him into a pit of snakes.

Why. Who thought it would be a good idea to mangle his combo based gameplay like that? Who thought it would be a good idea to make him unable to hit anything except minions and tanks with his only really damaging ability? Who thought it would be cool to nerf his only spells which would now be able to hit anything but minions and tanks? Who thought it was funny to make the AoE effect on his ult nigh invisible? Who thought giving him 30% passive cooldown reduction would be useful to him when Frozen Heart is a core item on him and with the proper masteries he also gets another 10% CDR when the cap is 40%? Who thought the proper compensation to all this was to give him an unreliable, unintuitive shield and more movement speed?

So, let me restate everything wrong in a nice, easy to digest list:

  • His passive is a pain to stack, you can't control its procs easily, it only procs in a prolonged fight and even then likely not at the right time and it's just damn unintuitive. It's like you saw Annie's passive and thought "What if the player had way less control over it and its effect was extremely convoluted?"
  • His damage is a joke now. Yes, you buffed the damage on Q. Doesn't matter. A spell that doesn't hit its target is a spell which does 0 damage. A skill shot which stops at the first thing it hits is nigh useless to a mage. You could compare it to Ezreal's Q, but Ezreal's does more damage and it's not his only source of damage AND it procs on hit effects. You could compare it to Brand's Q but Brand's Q isn't his main source of damage AND its main use is either to stun a target or to put blaze on it so you can follow up with E to spread the Blaze then W and R for max damage. You could compare it to many other skillshots which stop at the first target hit but it's not their main and almost only source of damage goddammit.
  • If that wasn't pitiful enough, you nerfed the damage on his W and E to make sure he can't compensate for his inability to land his Q with those, making the nerf to Q even worse.
  • Giving him CDR on his ult is like nerfing the damage on Garen's ult but causing it to give him 30% CDR. It's not a compensating buff at all. Remove the passive CDR and buff something else. Or make it give something else than CDR. Or change it so it adds the old passive where casting spells reduces the cooldown of all spells by 0,5/1/1,5 seconds.
  • The AoE effect added to his spells when he ults is not visible enough. Please fix that.
  • He doesn't need bonus movement speed. Not only is that really awkward because it doesn't fit with his kit, his theme or what people build on him but it barely has any use. It would make more sense if it made him tankier or gave him tenacity or if it gave him massive mana regen.

Do I have any suggestions? Well, seeing as I thought he was fine the way he was I guess my suggestions won't interest you. I'm pointing out issues so if you actually want to improve him you have an idea as to what's wrong with him.

I've only played against a Ryze once since the change...and he was crazy powerful. I had over 1.1k AP as Veigar but I only halved his HP with a full rotation including Ult because of his shields and typical build, and was destroyed immediately after. That's if he didn't have Zhonya's block my Ult or his Seraph's active.

It was only 1 game, so I can't formulate a definitive opinion based on just that, but first impressions was that he is not bad at all.

You know ryze doesn't build ap right? He builds tanky mana meaning your ult only did its base damage which ryze can easily take to the face and laugh.

Did I say otherwise?

You just make it sound like your surprised that your full combo didnt kill him lol "crazy powerfull" because a tanky mana mage tanked your abilities.

I was saying that he tanks everything (like you are saying), but did not seem to sacrifice any damage to gain that tankiness.

The one game I'm talking about here, I did the most champion damage at 98k, but he was second with 75k, and third was a mere 43k. His damage taken was on par with all the tanks. He wasn't a jack-of-all-trades, he was a master of all of them.

I do want to reiterate that it was only 1 match, so I am therefore not declaring he is OP. I italicized and bolded that part on purpose. It was a first impression.

Why would he need to "sacrifice damage"? He had no mobility, no hard CC, his AoE sucked, his range was short and he wasn't bursty.

If Ryze is a master of all trades, so is Nasus, or any fighter champ.

Ryze has solid DPS and decent tankiness in the mid-late game if built bruiser. What he sacrifices mainly is mobility, range, and kill pressure during the laning phase. He gives up plenty to be able to both take and deal damage past 25 minutes.

I hate the way the new Ryze builds.

He used to be a cool tanky mana building mage. Now he builds like another boring ass AP Carry who only builds two mana items (RoA and Seraph's Embrace).

His passive doesn't "only proc in a prolonged fight." He can just cast Q to get himself a stack whenever he needs it, so there's no reason for it not to proc at the beginning of a fight right when he needs it. Also, Q being blocked by minions becomes less of a problem once he gets his ult.
