Since Shen is doing horribly, I thought of some buffs that'd help bring back his original identity.

Hey fellas, dipshit here back at it again with more shitty JoJo references that nobody finds even remotely funny at all.

Today, I want to talk about our favourite river-dwelling, borderline depressed, ninja dude, Shen.

Now, it shouldn't be a surprise that Shen is doing god-awfully right now. According to champion.gg, he currently has a 47% win rate in top lane.

Now, I know what you're thinking: "Duh that's because he's a support you doofus".

And you're right, Shen is doing better in support, but it's still only a 48% win rate. It's not that impressive.

And with recent events unfolding, Shen did not just get a nerf to his Q's already rather mediocre slow, he also just lost his student.

So, as someone that really liked the old Shen, I thought of some buffs that'd make him a little bit stronger, as well as help him keep some of his original identity.

Passive - Ki Barrier.

Shield strength increased to 60 - 220 (based on level) (+14% bonus health) from 50 - 101 (based on level) (+14% bonus health).

Right now, Shen's Ki Barrier is kind of useless. It's supposed to take up damage you'd get from taunting people with your Shadow Dash, but the shield is laughably small and you're already blocking the damage you would've taken with your Spirit's Refuge. This means it almost exclusively becomes a shield for blocking spells that your Spirit's Refuge can't block, and for a shield that has a static cooldown of 10 seconds, and with damage just in general being at an all-time high, 50 - 101 base shield strength is incredibly weak at blocking... pretty much anything at all actually. This change should make it so Shen doesn't immediately get blown up when he goes in.

Shield duration increased to 3 seconds from 2.5 seconds.

With Spirit's Refuge lasting for 1.75 seconds, the shield you'd get from Ki Barrier is pretty much already expired when Spirit's Refuge runs out. This change should make it so the shield doesn't immediately disappear after your basic combo has ended.

(Both of these numbers are taken from Shen's old W, Feint).

Q - Twilight Assault.

NEW: Shen and allied champions are healed over 3 seconds for 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 (+ 0.5% maximum health) every second for a total of 3 / 6 / 9 / 12 / 15 (+ 1.5% maximum health) upon damaging an enemy champion that has been slowed by Twilight Assault. The healing duration is refreshed with subsequent damage. If an enemy that was slowed by Twilight Assault dies, Shen instantly benefits for a second worth of healing.

This change would give Shen more of a support oriented role in giving his allies healing from him slowing enemies. It would also make Spirit Visage a better item to buy on him.

(This is taken from Shen's old Q, Vorpal Blade).

R - Stand United.

REMOVED: Shield strength being increased by missing health percentage.

Using Shen's ultimate is a lose-lose situation. Either you activate it too soon, giving a rather miniscule shield that isn't enough to save your ally, or you activate it too late, giving a pretty hefty shield, but your ally has already lost so much health at that point that it doesn't even matter.

Shield strength changed to 250 / 550 / 850 (+ 135% AP) from 175 / 350 / 525 (+ 135% AP) - 280 / 560 / 840 (+ 216% AP).

To compensate for missing health percentage no longer increasing shield strength, the minimum shield value of Stand United is getting increased. However, as to not make it too strong, the maximum shield value will be lower at early levels than it was before and the AP ratio won't be as large.

Overall, I think these changes are pretty good. They're not that overpowered (in my opinion at least), and it's way better than just mindlessly buffing Shen's damage.

Do I want a Shen revert? Yes.

Is this post basically the same as my Galio post? Mildly.

Has 「Killer Queen」 already touched this post?

Don't tell anyone, okay?

Tell me what y'all think of the changes.

A 48% winrate on a champion like Shen ain’t a bad thing. That being said, I’m not super attached to the character, but as long as Shen has his ult and his taunt, he will always be useful.

A 48% win rate on a champion is always bad.

This means there is always a better one to pick, and in the ideal state of the game, every champion should be viable, don't you think?

So azir having a 48% winrate is bad? how bout ryze

Yes, both of these having a lower than 50% win rate is bad.

It basically means there's always a better champion to pick over them.

Azir is practically a meme at this point, and Ryze is already in the works for another rework.

Touching Stand United just opens Shen for more pro play oriented nerfs. Riot legit needs to take a look at his kit.

What if we didn't touch his ultimate at all?

Would the Passive and Q buffs be acceptable?

Also, feel free to share any changes you think would be appropriate.

Buffing his shield seems fair. They did thensame with Camille at the start of season by increasing it to 20% max hp. What I would also like to see is if his W not bei g bi ded to his Q, because it takes awfully long time for your spirit blade to come just to play enemy aa damage for your allies and the energy the combo takes is awfully a lot. His Q needs to also have both ad and ap scaling, and apply both types of effects. If not, give him on hit considering they are AA based. Having his Q AA's apply on hit effects from hiy aa damagr only.and not bonus from the spell itself is disappointing.

There's an easy way around this.

Instead of going in with your E and then activating your Q + W, waiting for it to arrive, activate your Q a little earlier, then go in with E, and then activate your W.

As for Energy costs, we could make it so if Shen is standing in Spirit's Refuge as it ends, he gains back 30 Energy.

I thought about buffing his Q more, but I just find it distasteful that the only way to buff a champion is through increasing it's damage.

Especially considering the fact that Shen is a Tank.

So I thought I'd focus more on improving his defenses.

What are you doing about his W?

What are you doing about his W?

Nothing for now.

Maybe increase the radius a little bit. For an ability that's also supposed to be able to protect allies, it's range is fairly short.

Lowering the cooldown is also an option.

Finally, we could give everyone standing in it 25% damage reduction against abilities, but I don't know if that'd be broken.

What do you think should be done about his W?

Ralanr1 votes

Well considering his W always activates where his sword is, you’re basically making it only activate on him. I feel that removes some strategic element to his kit.

And as much as people want vorpal blade back, there is a reason Riot removed it. It basically let Shen sandbag the lane too hard.

How so?

How is increasing the range "only making it activate on him"?

Yeah but Vorpal Blade was a ranged ability that also dealt a burst of damage, on top of lasting for 5 whole seconds. This iteration is a lot weaker.

And even if you disagree with the Q changes, how do you feel about the passive and ult changes?

Ralanr1 votes

Honestly, it just looks like his old ult, I can't remember the number difference though.

I'm meh on the passive.

Yeah I did take the numbers from his old ultimate, forgot to mention that in the post.

I'll edit it immediately.

I'm sorry to hear you didn't like the changes.

my shen rework.

p - balance : shen must maintain balance by attacking specific units with the correct sword. if using the correct sword he will deal bonus damage equal to a percent of his max hp. q - toggle between spirit sword and physical sword. deals magic damage/physical damage based on a flat ratio that increases based on shen's passive. w - shen embeds his sword into the ground and starts channeling ki into the ground. the ki prevents attacks from enemies and creates a dodge zone. if shen moves or the channel is broken the move ends. e - shen dashes in a short line taunting enemies and deflecting projectiles away. a deflected projectile continues on it's path the same distance that it would have gone and can hit any target on either team dealing full damage. r - shen channels chi and after 5 seconds teleports to an ally granting them a shield upon arrival and knocking back nearby enemies.

I like the passive and Q ideas. It really fits with his lore, although the passive should probably be moved to just be on the Q. No need for it to be a passive on it's own.

I don't like his shield being removed from his kit. It's been very iconic to Shen, both in the form of Feint and the form of Ki Barrier.

I don't know if I like the idea of Shen having to channel to activate Spirit's Refuge. This means you dash to taunt someone, and then... Do nothing. This will completely remove his trading potential.

The deflecting projectiles while Shadow Dashing seems like a gimmick, especially considering you can hurt allies with it.

And finally, having to channel his ult for 5 whole seconds sounds fucking awful. It will become way too easily interrupted and it only granting the shield upon arrival means your ally is going to die 90% of the time you actually use it. And considering it only grants the shield upon arrival, the knockback is fairly useless as well. I don't like this ult idea and all.
