Hey Meddler, remember how you guys said you thematically weren't satisfied with Shen?

Melledoneus··10 votes·3,793 views

What about balance-wise? He's the only reworked champion that hasn't gotten a single balance change since his rework, and it's starting to scare me that you forgot about him. Are you guys satisfied with his state right now?

As a side note: He could, in my opinion, use a few tweaks here and there so that he doesn't feel useless in lanes where his opponent is stronger than him at melee range,

He seems pretty balanced. He even got LCS play. Not every champ. is supposed to be viable in al situations.

Well, he hasn't gotten a single balance change since his rework, which kind of scares me. Every reworked champion has gotten a balance change since their rework, and Shen hasn't, which either means Riot doesn't want to touch Shen or they nailed him on release.

SaltyKracka2 votes

Everything points to them having absolutely nailed him on release.

Not exact ally the case. While they did change him most of the stuff was already there in some aspect or another. They got rid of the self healing and gave him a "block auto attack area" instead. His old W shield was made into his passive. Made his old passive a more reliable part of Q and made you have to get close to the target to damage them which is not that bad of a thing in most cases.

DorkunedAuras2 votes

I don't even know what shen's old passive was

Melledoneus1 votes

It was the damage auto that gave back energy.

DorkunedAuras1 votes

Oh yeah... that one.

That's how shen did more than light tickling to top laners.

because he's balanced, or at least close to it, and took a while for players to get used to him.

The second one.

He seems to be stable in a pretty balanced spot at present. No balance changes currently planned as a result.

Hey Meddler! If you have the time, would you mind taking a look at these two threads I made a while back concerning Quinn and Valor? I'm not sure if anyone from Riot was ever able to take a look at them: [1] [2]

Really sorry for going off-topic/piggybacking on the thread, but I wasn't sure how else to get ahold.

Have you guys comsodered refunding his scaling armor a bit, or increasing the late game uptime of W? Shen's main way to absorb damage from late game carries is his W, and it has a very high cooldown and doesn't increase the duration per ability level. I was wondering if you folks at Riot wanted to revisit the idea of a "redirection" tank.

Why can't he have his AP playstyle back?

DCYOUNG8881 votes

Just curious, why does shen have such low armor and health growth rate after his rework? Isn't that making Shen a bit squishy if he's tank? I know you can compensate by buying tank items but what happens if he falls behind in gold?

I still miss his self healing ;_;

As a level 6 Shen who played him a lot before and after rework, I think they did a damn good job with this rework. Or good enough at least, for sure. Which is a LOT more than I can say for almost every rework I've seen in the past 2 seasons.

I'd very much prefer they don't decide to rework him yet again, and then massively fuck it up trying hard to make him "thematically" better... please....

Melledoneus2 votes

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the rework. I just wanted to know what Riot thinks of his state right now, and any likely changes they'd make to him in the future.

So, you know, they don't, as you put it...

massively fuck it up trying hard to make him "thematically" better.

SaltyKracka4 votes

Every time Rito's commented on it, they've said they're perfectly happy with him balance-wise.

The hell of the thing is, Shen's rework worked.

Melledoneus6 votes

It did, but some of the mechanics are a bit... clunky. They could do to fix those up.

Irelia Bot3 votes

"thematically" they might have failied in the "ninja" factor but for the fans of shen before his rework they maintained his identity and added some more interesting aspects to him.

I actually don't want Shen to be a full on "ninja" if it means deleting his play style from the game.

Melledoneus2 votes

^ This.

I don't care if he's a sneaky ninja or not. He does his job as a tank, and he's a warrior more than a ninja with those biceps.

Kitty Whiskers2 votes

Who? Oh the guy i see once in like 200 games. Yeah idk dude who knows.

Melledoneus2 votes

You're playing with very deprived people if you never see Shen.

VERY. DEPRIVED. PEOPLE.

He's really powerful if he can do his full combo. But not so much if he messes up his combo. Since he's an energy based champion, I think that works pretty well.

Melledoneus4 votes

I agree he's powerful. The ability to weave auto attacks in between farming to harass, as well as having a powerful all-in is amazing.

However, I feel like having the third lowest scaling armor in the game with no armor compensation like most champions at that level of armor have is kind of crippling on a tank. Even if it is the price to pay for his W, it's quite a hefty price.

I think this is exactly why he is balanced. He already has lots of defensive steroid anyway. You actually have to work to get your real tankiness dont you think? He has to work like gnar while most of tanks have their inate tankiness and they can just build straight damage and melt your backline with a gauntlet or trinity.

Also, he never been oppressive since his rework, good news. The only reason he might become ''OP'' is his global ultimate since next patch riot want to nerf TP summ spell channeling to 4,5 sec if you didnt know already =). I think you should wait next patch and see what happen to his popularity.

A ninja looses 1 health for each ninja in the team. They prefer to work alone :3

Acceptable winrate in normal games Very common pick/ban in pro games If anything he might be looking at nerfs to reduce his dominance in pro games

I personally dont like the new shen. not because he isn't balanced, but because he just doesn't have a fun play style. i loved pre-rework shen and i feel like i cant play him anymore because i don't like him as a champion anymore.

Bhagswag1 votes

No, I sincerely think he is well balanced. He can survive when he plays well. He will die when you play him like a Yasuo and dash into towers.

Melledoneus1 votes

He will die when you play him like a Yasuo and dash into towers.

I beg to differ. I've become so tanky that turrets would take damage when they hit me.

...ok, maybe not that stupid, but the shield refresh lets you shrug off serious damage if you play smart.

Bhagswag1 votes

Early levels. Even Yasuo can shrug off towers late game.

While doing far more damage.

No I'm not crying about Yasuo, I'm just giving a comparison.

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

well. he always has been thematically stupid. a ninja that is a tank? what the hell is that. hell even casters in league make fun of it. "world's worst ninja". cmon. he thematically should be an assassin like all ninjas are.

don't bring me that bodyguard ninja crap thats made up

TAScientist1 votes

He DID get a single balance change since his rework, specifically the ability to hit jungle monsters with his taunt. It isn't much, but then, he didn't need much.

I think he's fine, maybe a few QoL changes but overall, his rework really did wonders.
