This is for those players who are tired of trolls and feeders in ranked and hopefully Riot will listen to us before their entire player base is nothing but trolls.

True but what can be done? Like just stating what the problem is doesn't help, we all know what the problem is: We are forced into playing at least 20 min with an asshole, and if your luck is especially bad its a duo and we are forced into 35+ minutes. Sometimes they are trolling because they are just done, they got stuck with an asshole for 45min so why not do it to someone else?

What does knowing this solve though? You cant just have 3-4 people be excused from the game allowed to AFK, you cant give them Loss Prevented, you cant rewind time. There isn't much you can do about being stuck with them.

Personally, I think that not knowing whether punishment has been administered or not is actually causing a lot of Toxicity. When some assclown comes into your game and trolls, not knowing whether your report actually mattered causes you to believe punishment is not being administered. This leaves one to believe they too can troll without punishment, whether its true or not this is what people believe. This is evident by 99% of trolls saying "Report me it doesn't do anything anyways", this may or may not be true but that doesn't matter, its the fact they believe it that is the problem. Even if you are only trolling for 1 game out of frustration you are still likely to cause a ripple effect. Maybe 1 or 2 people from that game get frustrated and start trolling then 1 or 2 people from their games start trolling and so on. If everyone knew that you were punished for trolling i think there would be less toxicity in the game. Like if it was apparent to everyone that this person was toxic in game and was therefore chat banned for 2-weeks, i think people might be a little more wary of being toxic.

Also i think Riot is too lenient on trolls, AFKers, and Toxic people. Trolls and toxicity is one thing, its hard to determine if this is their personality or if its just someone who was pushed a little too far. AFKers needs to be punished hard, idc what happens in your life shit happens i know and you just gotta except the punishment. In ranked, i think 1 month ban from League and 3 month ban from Ranked as well as automatic demotion is a reasonable punishment. Sometimes its your internet but according to Riot the system can detect whether you are AFKing or its your internet. Trolls/Feeders will get a similar punishment in ranked as well, that way you know "Ill just stick it out because i know these assholes will be rightly punished."

Remlap12239 votes

For starters, implement the safe to leave feature in DOTA2. That way if someone on your team DC's within 5 minutes or leaves intentionally, you're not punished, and if they leave after, well that sucks, but you can leave the game that your going to lose anyways instead of wasting 20 minutes because of your teammates refusing to surrender BCUZ NEVAH SURENDER IN RANKEED!!1!

Second, reward players for making accurate reports, and let them know their progress. If that dipshit that feeds in all of his games finally gets his just desserts, can you imagine how good that'd feel?

"Hey Stephenizgod, thanks for your report on xXxpussysl8rxXx6996. Because of your report and the reports of your fellow players, a player who commited:

Griefing (intentionally feeding) Inappropriate summoner name

is now temporarily banned from League of Legends. Due to your recent accurate reports, you have earned the Justicar summoner icon.

Keep track of your report karma on the Tribunal page, and thank you for making League of Legends a more friendly place to game."

BOOM! That'd make your day wouldn't it?

Honestly if a team member DC's or AFK's Loss Prevented should be implemented. Riot is worried people will abuse this by bullying newer players into AFKing, but the way to solve this is to make it overly clear that "If you AFK, you will be banned for several weeks immediately" or something like that so that newer players know that they will be punished for AFKing.

I agree the Tribunal should come back and everyone who took part in reporting them should be notified that someone was actually punished. It would make my day but it would also let people know that these assholes are actually being banned or restricted.

That's dumb. Let's ban someone for 3 weeks because their power went out.

Stephenizgod1 votes

A dude AFKs in a ranked match. So because there is a small small chance his power went out there should be no punishment? How many times will his power go out before he should be punished for having crappy power lines? Yea you can use whatever excuse you want, the point is our team lost LP and possibly promos because "your power went out"... hell no im sorry if my power went out and i got banned for 3 weeks id say "f*ck that sucks, oh well i guess ill just do something productive"...

Also you clearly didnt read what i wrote so ill just copy and paste it here for you:

Notice the part where i mentioned the bullying new players into AFKing... a simple look-see into the chat logs can clear up whether it was power outage or some asshole yelling at a new player to AFK so they get Loss Prevented.

but hey why read a comment when you can just immediately post a stupid response...

It's not just about power going out. There is more than a really smally chance that 1 out of 10 people within that hour will have something come up in real life that they should probably hop off the video game. I mean just imagine if your house caught on fire and you had to get of the game, you log in after it is out, but you're banned for 3 weeks. That's dumb. What if you got a phone call saying a family member was in the hospital? Are you going to finish your game because you're afraid of a 3 week ban? That's also dumb. Heck, what if your grandmother came to visit and got there really early and needed help carrying something in from the cold?? Are you gonna be like sorry grandma I know I left you out there for an hour by yourself, but I didn't want to get banned from league of legends.

I really think a better route would be to make enduring a 4v5 less punishing in ranked than to punish those who had to leave. It is a game after all, so it is really kind of silly to be talking about punishing people severely who stopped playing it. It really could be that someone was being maliciously verbally abused in-game and just decided he didn't have to sit and take it. And there is no shortage of games where people call someone who dies in-game to kill themself irl. There could be a game where someone intentionally feeds and says in all chat where you are at all times. 3 week ban because you don't want to waste 20+ mins of your life?

Stephenizgod1 votes

Uh no id leave because this is a video game... if my house catches on fire i have more things to worry about then not playing league for 3 weeks... im an adult i have adult things to do, not being able to play league for 3 weeks might actually help me be more productive tbh lol. Listen you start a game knowing that at anytime you might have to quit, this is the same for everything you do. You need to accept consequences of life, thats part of being an adult and it sucks but you gotta deal. That doesnt mean you should be exempt from punishment though, the point of League is to be fun, no one understands this. If you AFK for whatever reason that immediately makes it not fun for anyone else anymore, what is the point of this game if its not fun? Time is valuable and you are wasting what time i have to play, id like to know at least punishment was handed out.

Besides YOU ARE STILL NOT READING MY COMMENT... Seriously dude its like you read my first 3 words then immediately respond...

STOP! BEFORE YOU REPLY TO THIS COMMENT I WANT YOU TO REREAD MY FIRST COMMENT

dont compare afk and toxic people afk can be caused by A LOT of reasons, mainly technical stuff or maybe more important stuff irl, like your child fell out the window or stuff toxic ppl should just get banned if they r this way constantly

Stephenizgod1 votes

You can say AFK is for any reason but it doesn't change the fact that 9 other people were effected by the AFK. Something needs to be done because if you dont think its fair to be punished for AFK when something happens, then i dont think its fair that i lose LP because something happened in your life. If its bad ill sympathize with you and you will have all my best wishes, but we still lost LP which isnt fair...

Well obviously consistently Toxic people should be IP banned.

Raxicor4 votes

I played HoN a good couple of years before touching League. There they always had a remake voting system available for the first 5-10 minutes of the game, can't remember the exact number. If most of your team agreed with the vote you were put in a new queue. No muss, no fuss.

Stephenizgod2 votes

That actually could be very effective.

Raxicor1 votes

There was also a pause vote in case of IRL emergencies or disconnects and anyone on the team could make it unpause if they thought someone was just trolling. I was kind of surprised that a bigger game like League didn't have all of these "safety nets". x'D

Stephenizgod2 votes

I think because if paused the game for a real life emergency some troll would immediately unpause it. Also the current league is based on how many buttons you can press and how fast you press them. A pause feature would disrupt that flow and cause a lot of problems in team-fights.

Raxicor1 votes

Its not supposed to be a catch-all for trolls. Just a means for DCs to reconnect. If the troll sees fit to unpause then everyone will just have to deal like they already do. lol And as far as teamfights, well don't vote for a pause during a teamfight, its a very bad idea. x'D

Stephenizgod2 votes

it depends on if you are losing or not, pause the game talk about what you want to do then unpause it.

True but what can be done?

Riot could have a real tribunal that doesn't ban players for leaving games with toxic teammates. Wouldn't solve the problem entirely, but it would make the game significantly less infuriating.

It's completely unacceptable that I will get punished for leaving games in which a teammate intentionally feeds the other team into guaranteed victory. Why the hell do I share punishment for not wanting to put up with it?

Stephenizgod1 votes

That doesn't help though, just masks the problem. It would help if Riot could reduce the amount of toxic players, trolls, and AFKers by being much more active in sorting out and punishing those people. I honestly believe if it was more common knowledge to everyone that punishments are not only being handed out but that these punishments are serious and severe, there would be a whole lot less problem players. Most of these assholes actually believe getting reported has little to no effect on them, this false belief needs to be changed.

KING ATTILA4 votes

I agree as well. I made it to Gold last season but got placed in Bronze. The problem with bronze is that it's fucking hard to win when you simply have assholes on your team that don't give a shit. I know the right calls to make, and how to play well, but sometimes it just isn't enough because of challenged asshole teammates

Junkο2 votes

My friend gave me his Bronze 2 account after he rage quit LoL for a few days and it's actually really easy to win. I played Xerath, Ori and Tristana for the first time and pretty much solo carried the game... sadly i don't think that's really an accomplishment when the enemy team walks into every intentionally missed Xerath skillshot and then accuses you of scripting.

My advice is just to play champions with high snowball or high skill cap (you don't have to necessarily reach it) and be good at them. Oh and don't forget to mute your team as soon as an argument starts or is about to start, don't let it affect your play.

ABlueQuaker3 votes

I agree with this, but because of the way that the system works there's no support measures that can be implemented. Like, Riot can't just give 3 or 4 people loss forgiven because 1 or 2 people were being toxic. The whole system revolves around a balance of toxicity. For example, you could go on a 5 loss streak because you get the same jackass 3 games in a row, and then you go on tilt for a couple more. But then at some point in the future, that will happen to the teams that you're versing and it will level it out.

That is the most optimistic way to look at it. The community is too large and toxicity happens far too often for Rioters to personally moderate and compensate players in ranked.

Leti the Yeti3 votes

I heard DOTA lets people leave games? I've not played it and have no knowledge of how the system works but if it works for them, why wouldnt it work for us

ABlueQuaker2 votes

The only thing I can think of is compensating other players. But then there's the issue of people intentionally taking the fall for duo partners and what not. In that case 1. The duo needs to be punished, not just the individual and/or 2. the offender(s) needs to be punished harder (as in 1.5/2x the LP loss) to dissuade people from taking the fall for duo partners and to actually hard-punish offenders.

What if.... the surrender option was optional at either 10 minute mark or 15 minute mark?

blueberrypancake2 votes

I believe 15 minutes is the surrender mark for Aram, so it isn't that far out in the realm of being implemented on SR

TwitchInMyPants2 votes

I don't think people should just be allowed to leave games whenever they want. There's already a negative stigma over a mild amount of snowball, allowing free leaves basically turns the game into League of afks. Normals in DotA that aren't at high MMR are full of leavers, even if you are not on their "prisoner's island" matchmaking. Sure it can help toxicity in some ways but it also creates a new problem that's just as bad really.

There's really no easy fix but I think something like a kick for normals would be helpful. That does make a scenario possible where premades can votekick someone they don't like or a troll might try and get everyone to kick a player, but that decision creates an effective 4v5 and kills your game faster so its not desirable. Making premades count as a single vote IMO would make it a lot harder to exploit, especially since you'd need two+ premades to have the authority to kick someone.

Now while no solution is perfect, I'd rather have the kick system that makes getting out of a game much smoother rather than just being trapped with an asshole for a while. Honestly if someone has a better idea I'd rather have that, but I'd rather give a suggestion I think would work rather than just upvote and move on.

SephAgro2 votes

Sometimes you get the jerk that ends up single handedly ruining the game for everyone. But I've noticed another, more problematic situation that is mostly due to the passive aggressive way players criticize each other that causes the most fights.

A champion has been slain

LeeSin ...

or

Blitzcrank Can "we" stop making dumbass mistakes

or

Ahri This team though..

then

Draven Yeah I know I fucked up. Can you not be assholes about it?

then

LeeSin Whoah dude! No one was being an asshole to you. But yeah, stop playing like shit.

Draven I'm not fucking dumb. You don't get to get away with being toxic because you used passive aggressive language instead of telling me to my face that I'm playing like shit.

Ahri Fuck you Draven. Go kill yourself.

Draven Fuck you too.

Later during post game

Ahri Report Draven for being toxic.

blah blah blah blah

etc etc.

You get the point. Someone screws up - which is natural - and then you have a toxic team of passive aggressive assholes. The target of the 'quiet' aggression responds back with aggression and then you get a shitstorm. Everyone is too busy typing insults to each other to actually play the game and you end up losing.

Since I first started playing League I've always kept an oath of silence. I just don't feel comfortable talking to someone in a live setting and I know nothing about them. The thought of raging against an 11 year old that says I suck is just too scary. I don't want to stoop that low. I think I win more games because of my oath of silence then someone who 'communicates' Fizz flash down, or no summs Cait but ends up having to deal with toxicity, passive and active. Besides pings work just fine for me. Recently the discipline is made even more convenient by blocking off the chat window. Mmm pleasant quiet.

[–]vansterdam_city -1 points 2 days ago holy shit you entitled motherfuckers you get to play a FREE GAME thats all the compensation you need shut the fuck up about this

This is the type of shit the League community supports, and it's really sickening. It's like using the God of the gaps argument to sufficiently counter a rebuttal with a contradiction. Nobody cares the game is free, using a public restroom is free, but that doesn't entitle them to keep it as shitty as possible.

RedTrinketGoneHa1 votes

Agree full on with this guy, I'm not normally toxic if a team gives up a few kills but going like 1/10 is unacceptable, you need to rethink your decisions when shit like that happens, either be more safe, idc if u miss 20 cs at least you aren't putting other players on your team at a disadvantage cause they have to duel or fight a 13/2 LeBlanc or Kat or even an ADC. Just stay back farm and play, same goes for trolls, I don't see the point of trolling, you waste YOUR time and others.

Stephenizgod3 votes

Its not so much the guy going 1/10 but its the fact that he wont listen to advice and continues to do the same thing over and over again, that is what pisses me off. Sometimes we just have a bad game and it just seems no matter what you do its never good enough. Ive had it where i have gone 1/16 (which is ridiculously bad i know) because i was trying to protect my idiot ADC who was completely incapable of dodging Blitzcrank hooks so i just stood in front of them all game and took the hits for them. Once i racked up enough assists to get some items i ditched him to go help another lane and we ended up winning. Why do i feel this is more acceptable? because i didnt just sit there dying over and over again, even though i would die i would land all my CC and whatnot to make sure something happened after i died. Then i changed lanes so i could help someone else carry us to victory. It was only ok because we won i know, but at least i stopped doing the same thing over and over again. 1/16 is a bit much but the point is 1/10 is not so bad, its when they refuse to change their gameplay and dont listen to advice that makes it bad.

Electro5221 votes

I understand his point.....but what do you expect Riot to do? They have tools to limit trolls and such, and have even stated that toxicity is at its lowest point in quite some time. This game is designed around teamwork, and thus allowing someone to leave a game hurts that philosophy. You honestly can't expect Riot to pull a complete 180, and pull that core philosophy out of the game. If they do, League of Legends will not last much longer afterwards.

The only way I can see Riot somewhat improving on this is by lowering the punishments of dodging a ranked game, at least for the first few times (perhaps the first 3). I honestly don't mind coming out of champ select, and waiting maybe another minute or two to start it up again. If it happens time and time again, yeah, it'll get annoying, but I know it would be for the greater good. If someone dodges because they didn't get the champ they wanted, so be it. They probably would have been a hindrance to the team anyway. If someone dodges because they don't like the champ someone else picked, so be it. They probably would have been toxic throughout the game anyway.

All in all, there is not much else Riot can do about the toxicity that they aren't already doing. Trolls are going to be trolls, and no one can stop that.

Puri Puri Taric2 votes

uhm are you an idiot ? dota 2 has 6 million players daily and you can leave games whenever you want with no punishments if they are normal games do you even know how nice it is to leave games that are full of trolls ? its a refreshing new start and believe me i got less leavers or trolls because they you can leave those players whenever u want and yes it doesnt hurt dota 2 at all i really enjoy leaving games but i dont frequently because there are much less toxic people playing dota 2 maybe because of that exact feature to be ALOWED to leave a game

and you know what ? if you can avoid a fight in real life you will most likely try to avoid it right ? and if you cant you have to fight right ? that is exactly what lol has become a ground for kids to fight over petty things.

Electro5221 votes

But DOTA is under a completely different philosophy then League is. DOTA is more focused around staying true to the original DOTA, which is why they still have turn ratios. Yes, it is still heavily based on teamwork, but it is not its core philosophy like League's is.

Now, I am not denying that League is toxic. I would love to leave a game without any problems due to trolls. I am simply defending Riot and the core philosophy they have built this game upon.

Puri Puri Taric2 votes

How old is this video? There isn't a tribunal anymore lol. You leave a game it's either low priority q (you have to wait 20 mins before starting another match 5 times) or a instant ban after you leave/ perma ban if you do it too much. If your toxic there is a program or something like that who puts out punishments after checking your chat log/ ban all the way up to perma ban. If you troll (well I don't know how they check if you troll) you are forced to play normals/ get banned. Riot is being really strict about trolls, afkers & toxic people. Plus im just saying but 99.99% of the time if you're in ranked and there is a troll or afk person you were rude to them/ didn't try to reason with them nicely to stop. I haven't had a troll in a long time. I've had people that have done bad, but they're not trolling or feeding its just a bad game for them. I've had people who dced, but honestly I don't think they deserve the punishment. Play some normals and don't just spam ranked maybe then u won't think about why this game is toxic for two hours like the guy in the video did. You have to remember even in ranked you're playing for fun, it's just that it is a little more serious.

People are toxic because they get someone else that is toxic in their game and instead of putting them on ignore and going on about their day they instead continue to listen to that person, let them piss them off, and then go treat other people exactly how some jackass just treated them...

And he feels the problem is the 1 toxic jackass and not how he handled said toxic jackass? Really just take responsibility for your own actions if you are being a toxic jackass it isn't the fault of some toxic jackass you happened to bump into last game. Hell a while back I jungled a game on 3v3 as Vi and had a vlad who took W as his first skill against Orianna, got ganked, got killed and when I counter ganked and managed to pick up a return kill he just started raging at me. Did then decide to start bitching at the people in my next game? No I put the idiotic vlad on ignore, reported him at tend of game and moved on with my life. Just because you met a toxic prick doesn't mean you suddenly have to become a toxic prick.

You kind of missed the major point. The Major thing he is saying is that once the game starts there is no escape. Like he said, if this was a basketball game there would be 0 toxicity simply because you can ignore the guy. However in this game you are FORCED to take there crap and you can't leave otherwise you get punished.

If the surrender vote is set at 10 or 15 min this wouldn't feel as damaging. In fact I don't even understand why there is a surrender time set. I really doubt 4 players would surrender at the 10 min or earlier mark unless it is 0 kills vs 10+ kills at 10 min (Which to be honest is a really lost game without a miracle.).

Edit - point is the faster you leave the troll the less negative experience you receive. I'd rather lose LP than be stuck with an asshole for 20+ min.

I didn't miss the point he just made a bad one. He was equating lol to a pick-up basketball game on the street when it is more akin to a sanctioned basketball tournament, may not be pro ball but hell it could even be little league, in which of you had an issue with someone on you team and left you wouldn't be coming back anytime soon and if you did get to return there would be concequences for it.

That is not quite right. A normal game of LOL (playing with strangers) should be compared to a normal game of street basketball (playing with strangers).

A basketball tournament (teams formed beforehand) should be compared to LCS tournaments (teams formed beforehand).

Edit - Wait I see what you are saying now. But I don't see how LOL is more akin to sanctioned basketball team at all. You don't play with the same 10-15 people every game. Your replacing the term "games" in LOL with "teams".

Martyrofsand1 votes

No if you want to continue a basketball comparison a street game would be more akin to a custom game where you are picking who you want. Blind pick and team builder would be little league games, still sanctioned with penalties if you bail, and ranked would be college, full of hopefulls trying to go pro, and the LCS would of course be the pro scene. The only one of those that might not result in a backlash for quiting would be the street pick-up game, IE custom games. All the others yeah you would face punishments for it.

Pyrokineticmage1 votes

Okay I see your analogy.

So having no surrender time would be equivalent to having the option to end the season early. The players would vote to end the season early if they don't want to play with the one toxic player and create a new team. (of course this can't be done but trying to compare to league)

Or the better solution is have the coach kick the toxic player out (which league does not have)

Man, the guy in the video has a serious rage problem. "The other players in the game are useless idiots"? I think a more fundamental problem with League's community than the lack of an early surrender option is the inability to imagine the person on the other side of the keyboard as a human being. An early surrender option would be nice, but it's no replacement for basic human decency.
