Riot please change the pick ban order

It is far to much about banning what is "OP" instead of banning what works well together. Well that and I am sick of hearing the #LCSBIGPLAYS because one team got J4 and Rumble. There are others but that one seems to come up a lot.

Yes I play dota 2 sometimes. Yes They do some things better then league.

That's too many bans. 3 bans per team, I'd hate to see any more. It's bad enough already when your main champion gets a buff or becomes meta and it's suddenly banned in 40% of your games. Increasing the number of bans would make that 90% or so and that's just not cool. I mean, I understand people wanting to ban OP champions but how would you feel if your favourite champion became OP and was banned nearly every game? You've put hundreds or maybe even thousands of hours in to learning the champion and now it's almost always banned and when it isn't it's frequently picked by others and if you ever do manage to get it and you carry hard everyone says it's because the champ is OP and free elo.

Anyways, that was too much of a tangent.

I'm all for: Ban A Ban B Ban B Ban A (or A B A B) Pick A Pick B Pick B Pick A Pick A Pick B Ban A Ban B Pick B Pick A Pick A Pick B

I'd say the primary reason AGAINST it though is, no matter where you put the extra ban one of the two teams loses out on a 'double pick' where they pick two champions at once. It seems quite unfair that one team should get to pick 2 champions that synergize well more easily than the other team. So it would require some work.

You do understand that this is about banning strategies and champs that would make a team comp hard to deal with instead of what is strongest currently. Say a team would be a huge pain if their last pick was Orianna. You can ban Orianna so they don't get her as their last pick.

This is not removing the potential super strong meta champs from being banned every game but should diversify what is banned a bit past the first round of banning since other strong champs will likely get picked a lot.

Also there is a trade option within the team. It might however need to be changed a bit so that you can say you are trading with a player so that player can pick their champ and then you pick later on ifthe captian or second pick. But beyond that it shouldn't be an issue.

I think the biggest issue with it would be the huge shift to competitive play. Not sure how dota compares to league in terms of viewership of pro leagues but the biggest reason to not do this is probably that. It would change the ability to bring out a comp someone doesn't expect, it would also destroy certain team comps, nunu, lulu, kog, janna, and ori all make it through bans on the regular and when a team goes juggermaw the other team has to react to a lulu nunu pick by trying to figure out what they want to pick away or not pick away. With the format of ban pick ban pick then in competitive comps like juggermaw get wrecked. Now not only can you pick a key component that fits well with what you want to do, but you can ban two that don't and the other team can't run it. I think limiting/shifting the way the pro scene plays would be the biggest issue.

Couldn't you also use that same system to ban out enemy team comps as well when they ban out yours? That sounds like an issue that very easily sorts itself out. Especially since that's what the DotA draft order specifically encourages you to do. You can go for power bans against problematic players or champions/heroes, or you can ban out hard counters to a team comp you want to run while they ban out counters to their team comp and synergistic heroes to your team comp and vice versa.

It'd shift the pro scene, and that's not an issue. "Change is good." Khazix

Yeah I mean you can definitely ban their comps too, but it removes specific team comps that don't have a bunch of options to do what they want. I don't track dota but if there is something as specific as juggermaw for a team comp and it is ever allowed to be played in competitive and not just banned and picked so that they can't run it then someone is doing something wrong. Pros would adjust, but it would limit some of the ways things are able to be played currently and since I haven't seen how that would work I can't really say if I would like it as much or not to watch.

Good point, but still if you're a later pick it doesn't prevent those bans from being power bans rather than team-comp bans. It only really ensures that they'll focus on banning the roles remaining to pick. Makes it especially worse when you're last pick and stuck in a major off-role. I would imagine most people only have 2 go-to champions in their worst roles and letting the enemy ban when there are fewer roles remaining is asking for trouble.

Only two of your bans happen before you pick your first two champions. That's less than now.

if the first two bans are top lane champions, your team is very likely to pick a toplaner first. after that, the teams will probably switch to banning out relevant champions, meaning supports, or junglers, or adc's... whatever. Whatever it is they try to ban out, you can expect that to be picked next unless your [person in said role] has a very deep champion pool.

Whatever gets picked last is going to be the LEAST banned out role. You're going to have 1 champ from your pool banned out tops.

Unless you willingly let the enemy team ban out that role in favor of securing winning picks in every other role.

What are you, challenger?

This IS SOLO QUEUE we're talking about.

Like seriously, if first pick is a mid main they're going to pick mid. They're not going to secure a top lane champion because the enemy banned 2 tops. They're going to be happy their favorite mid lane champion wasn't banned and will lock it in before you can even say "hi".

Likewise, the last pick won't necessarily be the least banned role. It might happen frequently because most players don't ban supports and more often than other roles last pick gets stuck with support, but that's never a guarantee. If first pick is a support main and second pick is a mid main and third pick is a jungle main and fourth pick is an adc main, last pick is going to be going top. Regardless of whether all 5 of the enemy bans were directed at top laners (and perhaps 2 of your own bans). Add on to the fact that last pick is likely not a top main in this scenario (odds are 24/625 that each role is mained by each player perfectly, assuming all roles are equally popular [lower if not, which is the actual case]) and therefore your last pick is now forced to pick a champion in an off-role which is guaranteed to have 1 or 2 bans in that role and likely has 3-6.

Have you ever played solo queue? When's the last time you've seen players (that aren't a duo) offer to secure picks for each other? Or coordinate champion synergies with their teammates beyond filling each role and possibly having a small synergy like a top Hecarim gets an ADC who mains Jinx and has Sivir as their back up opt to play Sivir? I occasionally see the support and ADC coordinate a pair that works well together (when the support is actually a support main) but otherwise I've never seen someone say "hey champions W X Y Z form a great comp together" and the team proceeds to pick even 3 of those 4. In the LCS? Sure. In premade 5s? Sure. In Solo Queue? Either you're the luckiest player in the world or you're living in a fantasy.

You should be more flexible to play more than 3champs in a single role. If you're afraid of ur OP champ getting banned you'd better take it in the first round of picks. If your champ is getting banned in the first 4 bans every game, there's prolly good reason and you're just spamming FREELO champs and you'd be banned out in the current system anyway.

Getting the double pick is an advantage in synergy pair picks, but the other team gets the first pick and the last pick to counter. Seems like a fair trade.

a) Both teams ban 'OP' picks, so it's not just 3. It's not often you can ask not to ban someone, especially when you're picking 3rd or 4th and don't know what role the team will want you in yet. b) Playing top tier champions is not spamming FREELO for 2 reasons: 1 - there's no such thing as FREELO. The closest any champion gets to it is a 55% win rate. If you don't have some practice with the champion you're not going to rise up by playing them 2 - it's quite likely you stick with your main champion, it's RIOT and Pro Players who change what is considered OP or META. I mained Hecarim in season 4 back when every tier list I looked at had him in tier 4 or 5 on a 5 tier scale. I never needed a different Jungler because in about 500 games he was not banned a single time and was picked by someone other than me a grand total of 3 tiimes (one of which I picked him and the person who was last pick and had asked for mid whined that they took his Zed and he couldn't go mid and I offered to trade). The fact that Hecarim is the god of top lane now doesn't mean I'm suddenly abusing FREELO by playing Hecarim jungle and top, I've always used him as my preferred jg/top.

To be honest, aside from Jinx, every champion I've ever picked up was not a tier 1 champion on any list I looked at when I picked them up. Jinx was tier 1 on one list and tier 2 on the other 3 when I picked her up. It just so happens my main champions are almost all tier 1 now. Maybe I was just REALLY good at picking dark horse champions that were really strong and people didn't know it, but I think it's a lot more likely that it was just random chance that caused it to work out that way.

And to the other point, I'm NOT maining those 2 champions. I said people have 2 comfort picks in their OFF roles. No one mains their off role.

This idea would be hard to do in LoL since many picks are easily telegraphed and comp flexibility is pretty low. The flip side this would really really shake up the pro scene and force pro teams to find other interresting combos if they can't just pick whatever is OP and left in the pool.

This works better for dota because team comps are far more flexible. Jungle positions aren't mandatory, heroes can be in various lanes, you can run with dual supports, etc.

Generally in dota first bans can be OP bans, respect bans, or strategy bans. The next set of bans are generally to break comp. First picks are generally your most flexible picks that gives up as little of ur strategy and lanning as possible (generally supports).

Getting bans after your opponent picks some champions seems really powerful. You would basically have to pick certain champs when you can grab them in pairs.

yeah, its called drafting strategy in Dota 2.

But since its strategy and not twitch gameplay Rito will stay far away from this as possible. They're here to make call of duty, not CS:GO.

Would love to see this implemented Doesn't have to specifically replace Draft mode anyway, can just be an alternate mode

I have been saying this for a while. Some people said maybe try tweaking it to the 3 bans but honestly, I would love to have this in this game as well. (This is coming from a guy who came from dota to lol and likes both)

I love the idea if every member of the team can ban at least once.

You could have the most underpowered piece of crap champion in League, and if it was picked by an LCS team and somehow that team actually wins, you're going to have wannabe players using it to ruin your games for the next week or two.

this would strain the brainpower of alot of league players.
