Something that needs to be addressed is the huge disparity between skillshots and targeted abilities

It is widely accepted that point and click abilities, especially those tied to cc are "unfair/unfun". Yet those who do accept that always seem to forget that point & click abilities are generally much less powerful than their skillshot counterparts would be in exchange for reliability.

But, reliability is often over weighted especially when skill shots do not lose any power at ranges where they are basically guaranteed to land. Is reliability a fair trade off for range and power?

There is a reason why some ranged champions are forced to top lane and why champions like Ezreal are so strong. Skillshots retain their power at any range while becoming easier to land at closer ranges thus allowing them to bully out anyone with a shorter range. That is also why melee champions need to be able to nearly instakill their ranged targets in one rotation. As the second they approach melee range to be able to deal damage, skillshots are generally no longer skillshots.

In this sense, Xerath is probably the only "fair" champion with skillshots.
