"Sleep" in that form isn't unique to Ana.

It's been a mechanic for a long time: an enemy is stunned until they take damage.

I know at least three from Dota (Bane, Elder Titan, Naga Siren) but it's probably been around since before that.

Final Fantasy 1 is one of the earliest video games using this mechanic, 'Sleep' existed as a black mage spell if my memory doesn't fail me.

I am pretty sure the first game to use it was D&D First edition aka the "king of all games". So mid 70's was the original, but yeah I was just pointing out to Bard that Dota was built with in another game.

Will be interested to hear how exactly the mechanic works in comparison to other cc types.

Guessing it wears off immediately after taking damage but it otherwise the same as a stun, but maybe theres more nuances to it.

When you look at how it works in the current PBE teaser (it's on S@20), it will probably also work in the same way than it does there:

You will first get drowsy for a few moments and have time to reposition (I guess), and then sleep in. Damage stopping the effect could maybe also be another mechanic added to this, it's not shown however.
