Let's get a few things clear about Yasuo.

Bultz··25 votes·6,582 views

I have had to constantly read people posting about Yasuo with absolutely no legitimate thoughts on the champion, or arguments, to talk about, but they keep posting, so I wanted to clear a few things up. Let us get something straight, Yasuo is by no means broken. With a 48% win rate in high elo, Yasuo stands as 10th, or below, best midlaner and is no where near being the best toplaner. Yasuo has plenty of counters in both lanes and there are plenty of counter guides online for anyone willing to invest time.

I hear many different arguments with people constantly making up things for the champion to be changed. So let us address a few. People say his kit is overloaded. Yasuo is a close range fighter, under the slayer class. He is meant to kill you, his kit is one of the most flawless kits in any game, as it is not a cluttered up mess and gives anyone who is facing him a challenge. If you don't understand that, let me explain. His kit is meant to fight. He is not a healer. He is not a support. He is a slayer. He is meant to kill and meant to be able to catch up if behind. Yes he is strong, but is he op strong? nerf strong? rework strong? No not a chance.

Yasuo has plenty of counters and has room to be outplayed. He is not oppressive. For one slows stop his ult. Not just stuns, but slows. Qss releases you from both his knock up and his ultimate. If you don't build it, that is your own fault. Any form of crowd control on Yasuo ends with his death. The game lacks any counter to chained cc and it buries him. As for fighting Yasuo in a 1v1, that is stupid of you. Especially since he is a slayer. If you are top lane You most likely have no trouble in a 1v1 against him. If you are mid and he counters, you let him push the wave to your turret and farm there and he can't ever touch you because you will have range as a mage. He will have no way to reach you, and he is easily ganked and will have no escapes as all of the minions are by your tower.

Lets get on to his kit. Yasuo's shield is downed by auto attacks and only needs one poke for you to freely engage. But if you aren't able to engage in a 1v1 with Yasuo because of his shield, it means you aren't meant to engage Yasuo in a 1v1, ever. The shield doesn't bother Darius, Nasus, Renekton, Illoai, and any other close range fighter. Who it does bother are those squishy champions meant to be at the back of fights, no wear near Yasuo. Fighting Yasuo around minions, or up close, you will lose unless you can endure, such as most of his counters can. Squishy long range fighters aren't Yasuo's counter, understand that.

Let us address his q because I still find people complain about this. Listen his basic q does 20 damage, meaning early game he is a sitting duck. Yasuo's damage is near nothing for 30 minutes of the game. He needs to build Shiv or pd first, giving near no damage, then boots, then finally build the most expensive items in game, 3700 gp, to do any damage. This gives you plenty of time to trade with Yasuo and beat him in a fight. His low hp and near no damage attack style is easily beaten. His whole fight is based on the items he builds, and for every item out there, there is a counter item. That said His q does near no damage. He has to land two q's before even having the option of a skill shot, and when he finally does, it is the easiest skill shot to avoid because of its size and straight line motion. It does near no damage and again qss counters it. The only people who should fear it are squishy champions who should not be fighting Yasuo to begin with.

Speaking of squishy champions, lets get on to his windwall. His W blocks missiles, yes, but it is the only move in game to actually counter adc. No other move in game blocks their attacks, or forces them to come in close range. His wall is 4 seconds, if you can't wait for that to fall, that is on you. Also as an Adc, or anyone who has missiles, you aren't meant to fight Yasuo. Your role is behind your team. If you are on the front lines, you aren't playing your role. If his wall affects you, you are too close and out of your role and position. At your proper position, wall or not, Yasuo should be no burden on you. If he tries to gap close in on you, you have your team. If he engages them, your team has you. Anyone else who carries missiles is most likely able to engage Yasuo even if he blocks their missiles. Such as Gnar or Irelia. Jinx, vayne, graves, and anyone else who can fight from across the field as an adc is not meant to fight Yasuo. Understand that.

Now lets address the mobility part of his kit. It does no damage and Is completely based on skill level, as any overshoots lead to either massive damage taken, or his death. It is stopped by cc, which near all champions have some type of. Understand this, if you have a stun and engage Yasuo without landing it, expect to die at that point. Yasuo is a slayer, Aka he will slay you. But counter him with a stun and he is a free kill. For example brand is slow, but if he lands a stun, he will burst Yasuo in one use of his kit. Yasuo barely has 1000 hp from early to late game. Brand will melt Yasuo. But if brand walks out into the middle of the field to farm, misses his stun, he is in Yasuo's primary fighting position, and though Brand can still kill Yasuo, Yasuo will have an upper hand. Poke Yasuo's shield and stun. It is an easy task, as I have done it hundreds of times. Brand does not counter Yasuo, but outkitting Yasuo is just as good. You miss the stun? let him push wave and farm freely until he is ganked or your stun is back.

I am not even going to address his ultimate as it does no damage and is more cc, which is countered by qss. Yes it gives free lethality, but doing no damage without a full build, the lethailty isn't a danger for anyone meant to counter Yasuo anyways. Everything Yasuo does is easily countered by some thought and skill. don't expect to play a champion every blue moon and beat everyone with them.

I also wanted to address this rumor of a rework/nerf in 7.1/7.2. No Riot has not said they will do either and only said they will observe Yasuo in team fights, solo fights, team contribution, and other ways, just like they do with every champion. Never once have they said he will be changed or nerfed, stop lying to people.

I just wanna preface this by saying I have no problem fighting and winning against most Yasuo players just because I really studied him and I know what to do.

Let us address his q because I still find people complain about this. Listen his basic q does 20 damage, meaning early game he is a sitting duck. Yasuo's damage is near nothing for 30 minutes of the game. He needs to build Shiv or pd first, giving near no damage,

Yasuo definitely isn't a 'sitting duck.' He has respectable early game damage if the player knows what they're doing or you don't have higher than average armor in your runes. Phantom dancer and Shiv give him a pretty big power spike. Shiv gives him a very strong first strike and if he's playing safe he can just waveclear, farm up, and come back stronger (which in itself is a power spike.) I personally HATE phantom dancer because of the lack of counterplay the item has, it feels bad to just get tagged and instantly lose 12% of damage. That boosts his own damage with the crit and attack speed while making you weaker, so it is a power spike and it's pretty strong considering it's such a damn cheap item.

Just giving my 2 cents because I thought those statements were just wrong in most cases. You had a really well made post and its glad to see some informed discussion going on lol

NightmareAmazoX3 votes

Please, Do you really think a champion is not supposed to get any bit of power spike after buying an Item? That's Yasuo for you, His only doing what's best for him. It's not too high or too low. It's a power spike like every other character gets when they buy an item.

Dextix LT2 votes

Some champs get power spikes after buying specific items, but nowhere NEAR the powerspike that yasuo receives.

Spicy Rice1 votes

Erm

Irelia with triforce

Dar with cleaver

Yi and bloodrazor

Most adc's + runnans

Dextix LT1 votes

Yea, those are powerspikes, but they nearly double the damage of those champions like with yasuo?

Spicy Rice2 votes

Aight, let's calculate it out.

Let's say, yasuo does 10 autos and 2 q's at 80 ad

That's 800 + 200 =1000.

Now let's say he got a pd. It gives a 60% crit rate for him, meaning he will crit basically every other auto.

So now let's say he crits 5 autos + 5 reg autos + 1 crit q + 1 reg q.

That (5 x 80) + (5 x 80 x 2 x .9) + (1 x 100) + (1 x 100 x 2 x .75).

400 + 720 + 100 + 150 = 1370.

Now of course this is disregarding armor and the extra 1 or 2 autos he would get from the extra attspd on the item. But I think this shows how his power spike isn't as great as you would think

WoonStruck15 votes

You make extremely poor arguments, tbh.

You just list his abilities and ways to work around them that aren't always available. Do you expect everyone to rush QSS against Yasuo? A mostly physical damage champion?

You can't outplay anything in Yas' kit outside of his Q and Q3, which is up every 2-4 seconds and can be made extremely reliable via E->Q. E->Q is where half of his issues come from, and the knock-up on E->Q3 needs to go.

Another thing that needs to go is Q3 lasting longer than it takes to even get Q3 for the majority of the game.

If Yasuo is going to fail, its because Yasuo failed, not because you succeeded in the large majority of cases. That is the issue people have with him. He takes away agency from opposing players and puts it all in his own hands.

You could make the same exact arguments about ANY champion that is objectively overloaded/overpowered. Having ways to work around something in their kit does not mean they are **balanced. ** It means they aren't the shittiest design to come to gaming since Superman 64.

Yasuo's entire design favors the one playing him and gives little-to-no thought towards those playing against him. Yes, you can beat him, but its rarely because you did something right.

As far as Yasuo's win-rate...he's had a lower win-rate and been considered completely broken to the point of needing some serious nerfs at several points. The fact that he's right around 50% says he definitely needs nerfs according to past history. Especially since his win-rate does not go up the higher you go in MMR, despite being 'high skill'.

God this wall of text, just nerf the piece of shit before I get cancer from radiation that is 2 Yasuos every fucking Normal game I play and literally 100% pick/ban rate in Ranked... He is not op, he is inherently broken, badly designed, overloaded but he isnt the only one, he is however, and thats the most important thing, the single most unfun champion to face in game. By far.

I totally agree, I am praying for this to happen, especially for LeeSin , he might be less annoying but he is here for a long long time, I am sick of fighting this overloaded bastard for 7 long years :S

Yeah. Yeah it does.

We never said "look, yasuo is OP and wins every game so nerf him". He is the definition of unfun champion to deal with .

For those who play skill less champions, yeah. What you think every champion needs to be a no movement mid laner who can fire long range and only needs to land skill shots to win?

Guess what. every champion has lots of counters and counter guides. We simply dislike Yasuo because of how unfun he is.

He is unfun because you can't beat him. I find brand unfun. I find annie unfun, I find Oriana unfun. Am I going to circle jerk hate them because I as Yasuo have to think about how to outplay them? no.

Cause it is overloaded.

It's not overloaded. Either you have skill to outplay or you don't.

These are riot created classes. You not understanding the roles of champions is your own fault and probably why you suck and hate Yasuo.

Exactly so why are you made when he kill you?

It's not overloaded. Either you have skill to outplay or you don't.

It's not overloaded because you need skill to outplay or not. Because you're saying skill directly correlates with a champion's kit. In that case, you're saying if you beat a champion in lane, his kit is underloaded. Makes no sense.

Dextix LT6 votes

Well, that is a load of bullcrap.

Okay let's start. Yasuo is not broken currently, i can agree to that, but his kit still remains toxic and extremelly unfair to play against, UNLESS you counter him with a champion, which is not counterplay, it is counterpick. Secondly, winrates matter shit. If you want to see the strenght of a champion you have to consider all variables. Again the problem is, you HAVE to counterpick him, because you won't counterplay him if he is good, because yasuos kit is designed to outplay YOU.

And it is strange how you mention that he is supposed to be a slayer, yet he has THE BEST defensive utility IN THE GAME! Every other slayer or melle adc damager have their own defensive utilities, but they are for them only, yasuos protects an entire area and gives a lot of defensive power for someone who should be all on offense. So choose, is he supposed to be an actual slayer, or slayer with the best defensive utility in the game.

Let's go further, slows stop yasuos ultimate? ARE YOU HIGH? They do not! Not even hard cc stops his ultimate, so stop bullshiting everyone. And QQS does not release you from his knockup, unless you use it before it hits, but then we encounter another thing. Who the fuck on top/mid buys that item???? I will answer, NOONE! Furthermore building ad/mr against an ad killer, seems like a shitty idea. Oh, let us not forget that many cc skills are either projectiles or at melle range, both of which are ineffective against yasuo due to his kit. And then we have ganking. A high level yasuo will have at least one side warded and keep to it, and his windwall + tornado + dashes (He can dash through your jungler) make ganking really hard.

Then let us go to the other paragraph, his passive shield. Okay, so basically, here you also say that he NEEDS to be countered. That is NOT counterplay. If a mage or an adc even tries to aa the shield of yasuo down, yasuo will be in range to unleash hell upon them, and if the shield stops a spell, it did its job. So again, counter or lose. That is not good champion design.

And the next paragrap is such a big pile of bullshit it was hard to read it. Yasuo has no damage before 30 mins? I dont know what yasuos you have played with or against, but yasuo having at least ONE item is already hell, because he has insane spikes on his items, due to his critical hit passive, which nearly doubles his damage output with just one item. And his q does not deal a lot of damage early, yes, but it does not matter as it still creates threat and gives yasuo even more range than he should have as a melle fighter. And no, his q is not easy to dodge, because it can be comboed with his e and can be used for zoning a looooong time.

And the defense of windwall is just amazing. If you cant wait for 4 seconds for it to fall, that is on you. You do realize that in a teamfight in this and last season 4 seconds is a really long time? While your adcs wait for yasuos windwall to dissapear the back line of the enemy will destroy you because they are not impeded by anything. It does not matter if you fight yasuo or not, because his wall will protect EVERYONE on his team if used correctly! It is not about you as a damage dealer, it is about you as a damage dealer not being able to deal damage while the enemy can, and your frontline in this meta cannot afford to wait for 4 seconds.

And im sorry, his mobility does no damage? I will ask again, have you ever played against a yasuo? His e DEALS damage, and in early it hurts a lot. In late it is not as damaging, but early it is damaging quite well. And yes it is stopped by cc, but unless you have cc that will shoot him in 0.2 seconds, it wont matter for shit, that is if you can even hit him because he can just simply dash after that again or just walk. And again, most cc in the game is either projectile or melle based, both of which yasuo has advantages against. Also, a good yasuo will ALWAYS beat brand. The only skill that brand will hit on yasuo will be e, because yasuo will just dash/walk our of w and windwall q/r. The only way yasuo loses this match up is if the jungler sits on his ass 24/7 (Not good counterplay) or if yasuo sucks ass (The fault of the player, not the champion).

And of course, you are not going to adress the ultimate that extends one of the best cc type in the game while actually dealing damage paired with getting in extra q's and giving 50% bonus ARMOR PEN! (Again qqs is USELESS).

Everything yasuo does is not couterplayed, it is counterpicked, because yasuo holds the tools to fuck you over while you hold none.

Is yasuo op? No, not currently. Is he toxic with his kit? Hell yes. And your "counterplay" is just comical because it ALWAYS involves counterpicking. Your examples always consider that yasuo is a shit player who doesnt know his kit and your counter-items (qqs) are just simply trash that are not built on anything that yasuo destroys.

This.

Not a Yasuo main, but thank you so much for saying these. I'm sick and tired of brainless posts, who normally wouldn't even make it past a few upvotes, getting to front page because they mention that Yasuo is "OP."

Yes, Yasuo is annoying. But he has a lot of counterplay and it just requires slightly higher brain function than mashing the same keys over and over again.

Dextix LT3 votes

No, he does not have counterplay, because he has all the tools to outplay you. You can only win if you counterpick him, which is not a good thing, because it is not counterplay.

Spaceman5pff3 votes

OP is a Yasuo main though, granted they are really fuckin bad at Yasuo, but they are a Yasuo main.

They likely think Yasuo isn't overloaded because they tend to get roughly half as many deaths as they do kill participations, and that is on a good game.

Examples - 21/16/5 VICTORY, 5/8/7 VICTORY, 4/15/6 VICTORY. Now that is the good games (I say good bc at least OP actually managed to not lose those ones)

On the other end of the spectrum: 3/10/6 DEFEAT, 4/10/4 DEFEAT, 11/20/17 DEFEAT. This guy dies so much that there is no way he can play that champion properly.

And those are just the normal games. Seriously though, everybody has bad games, and not everybody will be great at a champion right away. But the line NEEDS to be drawn somewhere.

LatetotheRace3 votes

Here are my problems with Yasuo. He snowballs out of control when he gets ahead. He was not designed to be a top laner, and as such he can easily dance around and out farm most top laners. Even if he can't actually kill his lane opponent he can still out farm them and ultimately get ahead. His extreme mobility only gets stronger as he builds more items, not to mention his hideous 1 item power spike. Not even Trinity force comes close to Yasuo building item 3031 or item 3046. Yasuo is incredibly easy to pick up (for good players) and very easy to abuse. He's not some incredibly difficult champion like people think he is, he only requires basic mechanical skill to learn and some dedication to master (like most champions.) The problem with that is riot gave him an extremely high skill ceiling. Which was a terrible mistake to put on a mobile version of tryndamere with a shield. There's just so much to complain about Yasuo it's not even funny. It's just hilarious you think he's some kind of balanced. Also, for Yasuo to be averaging 50% winrate in both lanes with a 10% play rate is pretty substantial. Not as substantial as Lee sin winning 12-17% of ALL games played, but still pretty relevant.

Yasuo is an anti-projectile fighter that thrives when used in the mid lane against mages who use projectiles?

Who would have guessed?

I apologize if I seem derisive, but there are such things as counters, some soft, some very hard.

Taking Nasus into Darius?

You're not going to have a good time no matter what you do in lane, and you're certainly not going to enjoy it.

People who play ADC's have always hated every single type of assassin for the longest time because assassins are a class designed to punish an ADC for simply having their design. Should assassins be made invalid simply because when they work, they can counter an entire other class?

Yasuo is a slayer, fighters who are - without the use of their abilities - fragile, but have defense or utility to ensure they can get onto the targets they want to fight and kill. Yi and Fiora are two other examples who exemplify a similar style where they want to get onto you, and the challenge isn't in killing you, but instead getting to you.

Your options are a: don't let them get onto you even if it means you will be behind, or b: have it where you are on a champion that it doesn't matter or you WANT them to get in your face.

Seriously, champion diversity is a two-way street, there are Galios and there are Lucians, and there will champions that your main and/or preferred playstyle will struggle against. For every champion you can face for whom the outcome is entirely based on skill, there will be a champion who can mechanically shut you down, just as there are champions who YOUR champion can just shut down with equally little response.

Hell, the issue isn't that Yasuo is a slayer who can shut down projectile users in the mid lane, its that he's a popular slayer who can shut down projectile users in the mid lane. I imagine there wouldn't be a quarter of these many threads about Yasuo if he was popular as say... Rammus was.

Nobody complains about Rammus until marksmen become popular in more than the bot lane and then the Rammus and Malphites appear, and people wonder why they appear like it's some fucking mystery, and then all of a sudden the forums flood with people complaining about the high winrate Rammuses (Ramussi?) and Malphites.

Yasuo hovers under 50%, which is where a popular high-skillcap (Riven, Lee Sin) champion should usually stay under, if he gets to or above 50% then obviously he should be looked at, but for the most part Yasuo is where he should be.

Can work be done to make his gameplay less frustrating? Yes. As they should do with every champion who breeds an excess amount of frustration within the league community.

But there is only so much you can do with someone with a kit like Yasuo's, where by nature he is designed to punish ranged champions, where you can't get around the fact that he's a flashy samurai who can nullify and kill your magic user and look good doing it.

If the game can't exist in a state where range can't have means of being punished without becoming frustrating, I think what people should be more concerned about is the issue of ranged as a defensive means in league rather than just a few one-off champions.

After all, champions like Irelia and Xin Zhao were brought into the game specifically to counter the issues of ranged champions.

But that's just my two cents.

Numbers don't lie. You die a lot when you play Yasuo, win or lose. You clearly: A) Do not know the limits of your champion in various matchups, and repeatedly are taking poorly calculated risks

I really don't give a fuck what you think m8. I have not played one ranked game without my team feeding so I stopped because all that would get me is bronze and that is pointless if I am not the one who fucked the game up.

Numbers don't lie. You die a lot when you play Yasuo, win or lose.

I die a lot in normals because it's fucking normals and I don't give a fuck to be agro because it doesn't matter I enjoy playing. As for ranked games, I have never lost a lane as Yasuo, I have only been screwed by my team. Being 2/0/3 in 5 minutes doesn't mean much when other laners are 0/10

You clearly: A) Do not know the limits of your champion in various matchups, and repeatedly are taking poorly calculated risks

You don't know me and I don't really fucking care, If they feed what Am i Supposed to do during a ranked game other than anything possible to win.

or B) start the game really well but then get pissed off and intentionally feed whenever someone on your team fucks up.

I win early game, but again if they are 0/10 I can't do anything when their laners come fight me.

Either way, I don't want you on my team, especially as yasuo, and will ban the champion to keep it off my team, as I always do.

Either way I'd kill you on any champion you have as Yasuo.

That or you would die 13 times in a 20 minute game, which you have proven you are pretty good at.

You type an awful lot for someone who really doesn't care.

Again no and this coming from someone with 8 games lost in ranked in a row and whose match history is green at best every other game doesn't mean much. Let me look at your shit and judge you then. From what i see you must suck a hell of a lot. Not one consistent patch of fucking green or win streak to be seen for miles down. Coming from someone with that kind of record I could care less.

I think you will be hard pressed to find more than one game where my KDA was less than 1.0

I do want to congratulate you on having a sub 1.0 KDA with over 15 kill participations though, takes a great deal of patience to sit through that much grey screen.

But you still lost, why? possibly your team sucked or you sucked. Your KDA is irrelevant because no matter what, you lost.

I have played a max of like 15 ranked games in 3 seasons because all i get to play with are feeders, and I play this game almost every day. I don't really care what you think, but If i get s ranked in games where my team isn't feeding, and I lose with because of idiots, I know it isn't on me. No matter how good you get, you will never carry a game when both top and bot are 0/8 and 0/8 in 10 minutes of play.

Oh no I am not shaming your inability to carry two 0/8 lanes.

I am totally calling you out for not understanding the amount of damage you do to your team by dying 15 times as opposed to 5.

Not dying means you are able to waveclear, provide vision, deny vision, and just generally be a body on the map. If winning is what you are concerned with, any one of those things alone is immensely more valuable than dying if you are trying to carry your team.

If you die and they go get dragon, then they get kill + assist gold and exp, as well as the dragon, and possibly wave pressure to boot. If you back off and don't die, sure they still get dragon but you have denied them hundreds of gold, as well as some experience, and you can minimize incoming wave pressure whilst getting gold and exp for your efforts.

Am I perfect at capitalizing on leads and snowballing my lead onto surrounding lanes / the jungle? Hell no. But by dying 10 less times a game, I actually make it possible to PRACTICE that snowballing.

I guess being in grey screen lets you get really good at minimizing your shop times, though.

Great post. Enjoy the upvotes before this gets downvote bombed.

The downvotes are because this is not a great post, what he says is simply bullcrap of the highest degree.

Cowseed1 votes

But there are yasuo hate threads with more bull and and the same time insane upvotes. I'm not gonna hop on this bandwagon. You can downvote me all you want.

Simply because Yasuo is hated. Why you may ask? Because his base design is by itself toxic. The fact that they put so many mechanics into one champion speaks for itself here.

Cowseed1 votes

I don't find it that toxic because everything in his kit can be easily countered. Except his ult of course but only because it's very situational and requires landing knockups.

Dextix LT2 votes

No, it can't be countered if you play against a good yasuo. A bad yasuo will fuck up. A good one won't. And yasuos entire kit is made around outplaying others, not being outplayed.
