NO ONE is going to take the Perseverance mastery...

...because you put the damn thing next to reduced summoner spell cooldowns. Like, who on Earth would pass that up for 50% hp regen unless you're in critical condition, then it's simply 200% for a little bit?

I'd consider it if my champion benefited from 50% health regen. That's pretty significant in lane. 200% when below 20% is pretty situational but it has uses.

15% summoner spell CD isn't always the best mastery for me being as I conserve my summoner spells to the maximum extent.

Yosuke Apperu13 votes

I may get flamed for doing so, but I take the health regen on soraka. I think it works out nicely.

Spoofghoul2 votes

You shouldn't. . .

Soraka has like the weakest hp regen in the game the mastery is pretty garbage on her, its probably better to get hitpoint per lvl yellows and buy a warmogs if u want regen.

Mathbalnase4 votes

I'm not going to 'flame' you for it, but I will point out that Soraka has some of the worst base HP regen (and thus least benefit from %regen bonuses) of the entire champion roster. At level 1, she's tied with Gnar for absolute worst. At level 18, they're tied for second worst.

At level 1, that mastery is giving you 0.25 HP per second (and still only 1 HP per second while extremely low) Even by level 18, it's only giving you 1.1 (4.4 while low) HP/s.

Compare to Heimerdinger, who gets (ever-so-slightly more than) that lvl18 value at level 1...

Yosuke Apperu5 votes

Is the mastery only for base hp/5? or is it total? I couldn't find it saying that it was base.. >.>

You get it from the masteries so you can get stats from your boots! [slayer-jinx-catface]

I think there's this bug that fucks the game up.

Basically you can't have the mastery AND the boots at the same time, one cancels out the other and basically you have stock cooldowns. There was a post on the Boards a bunch of days ago IIRC.

Yeah. I tried this and noticed mid way through the game one of them stopped working correctly and my CDs went up on summoners.

Except that Ionian Boots of Lucidity don't reduce Summoner Spell cooldowns, just normal champion cooldowns. I'd say Summoner Spell cooldowns are a good deal more valuable than the HP regeneration.

Someone didn't read the patch notes I see.

Ionian Boots of Lucidity TOTAL COST 1000 gold ⇒ 800 gold BUILD PATH Boots of Speed + 500 gold COOLDOWN REDUCTION 15% ⇒ 10% new: TRUCIDITY Now additionally reduces the cooldowns of Summoner Spells by 10%

Ah, cool. I must have glanced over that particular note, then. My bad. Thanks for the correction.

That's not a fair comparison. With those two masteries it's a choice between either Summoner Spell CDR or Regen, that's it. The former is taken because it is objectively the better option for the majority of champs, not because Summoner Spell CDR is soooo amazing (it's nice and definitely more useful than regen, but it's not the be-all and end-all of stats).

When it comes to boots, there are a range of different stats to choose from depending on the situation and your preference: flat magic pen, tenacity + MR, attack speed, armour + defence vs autos as well as massive out of combat MS. These are all great choices and equally as (if not more) valuable than what item 3158 offers.

Hypothetically, I'm sure if there were only two pairs of boots: Ionian Boots of Lucidity and a pair of Regen boots, almost everyone would pick the former because they are simply better. Regen is only super valuable on champions with already high base regen, or champions who have specific mechanics relating to/relying on the stat.

If you have problems with your first clear as jungler it is a good option. Soraka needs it, so she can heal more. It is good for top lane too, because you can stay in lane longer. In general: If poke/harass is a problem: take this mastery.

50% health regen is very good in the early game. 200% is insane for some champions. Underrated stat.

Also: For every flask user of the past: 3 health regen quints are the way to go now. This or health regen masteries or both.

OneSmoothDude2 votes

I disagree with taking it on Soraka. Her base health regen is very, very bad. At level 1 Perseverance only gives you 15 more health regen per minute. Pretty bad. The level 1 Cunning mastery, Recovery, is better, as it gives you 2 hp/5 (I can't imagine why a Soraka wouldn't take that, though, so it's a moo point.)

I'm not sure if Recovery and Perseverance stack. I'd think so from the wording, but it would better to test it out than to assume. But even if they do, taking Perseverance would only give 27 more health per minute and 31.2 h/m at level 3, (so the growth on this is poor as well) etc. I'd much rather have 31.5s shorter cooldown on Exhaust and 45s shorter Flash cooldown.

TL;DR - Take Insight over Perseverance on Soraka. For other champs, check this page to calculate Perseverance's actual value (hint: sort by lowest value level 1).

Edit: Holy shit, Health Regen quints are broken on Soraka. 2.7 hp/5 per quint?! So you can more than quadruple her health regen level 1 with those. And if Recovery and Perseverance do stack on top of that...dear God. I wish I had the IP to test this out.

Kynami2 votes

As I said elsewhere in this thread I like using a pair of HP/5 quints to handle Raka's laning phase.

Recovery and Runic Armor stacks with the quints. Perseverance only works off of base regen however and isn't worth using on Soraka.

That said? Recovery + Runic Armor + 2 HP/5 quints + base regen + Ancient Coin = Effective HP/5 of 16.4 at level one, or in other words an absolute pain to attempt dislodging from lane.

Her base health regen is bad at Level 1 but, but later in the game it is ok. Health regen is the single most important stat for Soraka, and she will get under 20% health for sure at some point, so this increased health regen matter for her.

I'm not sure if Recovery and Perseverance stack.

It does.

Yes, health regen quints are op for Soraka. I also use scaling health regen seals.

But health regen quints are very good now for other champions too. On some chmpions I used 3 AP quints last season and started flask + 3 pots. But sustain from starting items is nerfed now. Now I use 3 health regen quints, Dorans Ring and 2 pots. The AP, health regen and mana regen at the start is around the same.

Sire Hippington1 votes

Her base health regen is bad at Level 1 but, but later in the game it is ok

sorakas regen at 18 is the second worst in the entire game, it's nearly half of the average...

I'm not sure if Recovery and Perseverance stack.

depends on how this is meant. you gain both regen effects for sure, but the 2 hp/5 are not affected by Perseverance, as Perseverance only affects base-regen.

They need to revert it to the old system that have % missing health as regen, then it might compete.

NahDogSolRahn2 votes

Jungling with tanks that have an EXTREMELY hard time starting. Thats who; sure 5% instant CLR and a little extra on the top if you hit max, but will that help if you just burned your one safety spell and ended up in a group of enemy minions, that would be a dead caster, where as the same situation with that sudden rejuvenation might save you, unless they don't fix the minion collision as soon as we hope.

SolusInCadere1 votes

if 50% HP regen can make or break a champ in the jungle, then they should be in the jungle. OR they need a better clear. But seriously, if you are sturggling enough that 50% hp regen is needed to save your ass from monster creeps, than I'm invading you for red buff at lvl 2. Thank you.

Stonington2 votes

I haven't been putting points in that tree very often, but it makes sense for some champs. It should give you a better laning phase for tanks/bruisers and I've taken it a few time for better sustain on junglers. I guess a better question might be, why do you feel like you need to flash and ignite the moment it comes off CD?

It's not that I think I should have Flash or Ignite at all times (I mean, I personally do because I main champs that die to ganks really damn easy...). The point is that 50% health regen is really damn weak in comparison to getting your sums back faster. That means more Flash, more Ignite, more Teleport...but on the other hand you get...50% hp regen? Yay...?

Stonington2 votes

Yeah, like I said, it's good on tanks and bruisers who scrap a lot and have high HP regen. Also good for junglers of a similar type.

It appears as though you're a Sona/Jinx main. I can see why you value your flash CD over your HP regen as both champions have low base HP regen and don't rely on it for lane sustain. Sona and Jinx are rather flash reliant. A champion like Jax or Shaco aren't reliant on summoner CDs to nearly the same extent. Especially if they're in the jungle.

Let me put it this way, after 1 minute at level 3, Jax will regenerate 92HP because of that mastery. Which is equivalent to half an HP pot and over 12.5% of his total HP at that level. I'm sure you can now see why that might be helpful for a jungler or bruiser.

Nowhere Man2 votes

If I am playing a tank I almost always go with the regen :/

SolusInCadere1 votes

Yes, but tanks ussualy also like their summoner spells. Top lane: summoner 12 more often for ganks or to get back to lane. Jungle: summoner 11 up more is a HUGE help and summoner 4 up more for better ganks. Support: summoner 3 for more playmaking.

Done252 votes

This mastery is pretty much exclusively for junglers who need the sustain to clear. With enough armor/regen you can become nearly invincible under 20% hp vs jungle creeps.

SolusInCadere1 votes

Yes, but you are not invincible to invades. And if you are palying a hcampion who is consistnatly below 20% hp in the jungle, I will invade you. Often. item 1403 scum :3

Done251 votes

Most wont need it after they get the jungle item upgrade. It's just for that initial clear.

Why get CDR masteries when i can just buy item 3508 ? or, what if im a huge ass tank, that health Regen is beautiful. or what if im a kinda squishy jungle? trying to make sure i dont die in the early phase, im not gonna want CDR for health Regen inbeteen camps will i? i wont even care because by the time im at my next camp, all of my abilities are back. youre looking at the very small picture instead of thinking about why this would be good.

CDR does not effect Flash/Ignite/Heal/Teleport/Exhaust...but that mastery does.

Forgive me if I'm mistaken, but if you somehow get bursted down to low health and you turn your ult on (increasing your health regen to about 2000/5seconds give or take), and this mastery makes your health regen 200% effective, are you not going to be healing 800 health a second (4000/5)?
