People complaining about $300 gemstone skins
When the point of gemstones are to be rare due to luck...
...Not due to your financial status.

I feel rare skins should be based on mastery level or some other factor of skill or dedication to a champ. Simply making them rare and the people who get them who don't play the champion they belong to means the skins simply don't get used.
You're a fool if you don't accept that this was the whole point of a loot system from the beginning.
People are greedy and lazy. They want to just be able to throw $20 at the screen for a sick skin immediately.
The only practical reason for it is it saves time, but financially it is completely idiotic when there's a means to earn it for free.
For some the time it takes would be an issue (people who play casually), but for those who aren't I don't really sympathize. I personally like the idea of skins that you can't flat out but from the store, it adds a level of rarity to the skin that otherwise wouldn't be there

damn, I want to be a paying customer.. what an asshole
"Fuck that. I don't want to support the developers to access their additional hard work they also give to us for free."
-Ungrateful whiny children who forgot when we had to pay RP for everything
But... the way it is it takes YEARS of constant perfect chest opening for a free player to get 10 gemstones for one skin (and if you do it without buying keys you're insane because it takes like 50 wins in 4 weeks to get all 12 fragments). It's BEYOND unreasonable.
For it to be more reasonable there should be two to three times more gemstone skins with gemstones two to three times more common than they are too. That way getting one of these skins is a long term goal but achievable before you're three years older and who knows where this games going by then. Or maybe it's more clean to reduce the gemstone requirement but that's less nice to people who already gotten these skins.
People are greedy and lazy.
They are. But if you ask me it's Riot for only putting 3 above average skins behind this blatant whale trap of a system.
It's unreasonable that riot gives you free skins at a slow rate... K
Well, it sucks because some of the free skins are INCREDIBLY hard to get for free...
It's their right to do it. But I really wanted hextech annie, and I would have been willing to pay for it normally. I just don't understand the business model, I guess. I'm not one of the people who is willing to shell out for a rare skin, but I love the skin.
That's the kind of thing that ruins the "free loot" experience for me.
I understand your conflict.
But all 3 hextech skins are at a rating called "mystic"
While the skin value isn't Ultimate, or isn't a like 30 dollar skin, their value comes in their sheer rarity.
Take championship riven as an example. While the skin in itself is honestly average The RAIRTY makes it worth quite an amount.
...? three?
Singed, Galio, Sion, Anivia, Janna.
And that's without Annie. The only one that didn't go on sale while I've been playing is Sion's, and they even brought it out of the vault briefly for some reason or other. Annie's is the only one I can't reasonably get. It's part of a set, and it's the only one I don't have.
They simply aren't that rare, EXCEPT for annie.
I was referring to hextech as in the HEXTECH gem created skins.
Hextech Annie Soulstealer Vayne and the new Dairus one.
Ah... yeah, I don't like that.
Especially since they are including skins that are part of a set there. That just heightens the annoyance, frankly. If they were there own thing, it would be fine to have them like that; skins for the loot-obsessed. But instead, they are trying to rope in as many people as possible, and it just feels bad. I won't ever like that aspect of it.

and people like you are the reason this crap exists, it's not even a hextech skin, it looks badass, people will throw 200$ to get the skin, when it should be a legendary skin
How to get gems from chests: Pray to RNGesus How to get chests as a support main: Pray to RNGesus your ADC isn't trash. How to get a non-trash ADC: Pray to RNGesus the ADC isn't auto-filled.
RiP, me. (T_T)
i don't get autofilled to adc and I'm still trash at it, its somethin' I rather enjoy doing it for a nice change of pace in normals, and wish to learn a bit of now and then
Does riot have a gambling license?
Would make alot of money betting on teams....then giving first pick to whichever team they would earn a profit on from losing or vice versa....
Just spent 50$ roughly on chests. Got two gemstones. Pretty happy about that. Not so happy every fucking skin I've rerolled has been 750 RP
meanwhile I'm jsut sitting here with Pax jax and the real championship riven.
The 2016 championship riven is a lie
got annie hextec from a chest, no gemstones. i think we can call this the luck of the drawn :P
I feel like that's my only actual chance at ever getting it... lol.
I wish I had real championship riven. I even played the game then and somehow missed it
i have 4 gemstones got all of them without spending a single penny xd saving them in case a loot exclusive skin for ahri comes out
but.. who talked about 300 dollars? you can me extremely lucky and get the gem stones with 50 dollars..
I opened about 70 loot boxes in total since they were introduced. I got 4 gemstones but rerolled them all into a chest and another key, because I'm not interested in any of the skins so far. Guess I will keep them all from now on just in case rito decides to make a hextech Taliyah skin.
That would be pretty sick but i could probably never have it [zombie-nunu-bummed]
I have SS Vayne and it cost me a ridiculous amount of RP. It's not remotely worth it but Riot knows any Vayne/ADC main will feel obligated to buy it.
...Not due to your financial status.
lmao, thats the entire reason. the skins are made for people who are willing to pour 500 bucks into enough chests unlock them.
do you really think they made these skins for people who unlock mastery boxes? they dont want even those people to unlock them without paying extra money. otherwise keys wouldnt exist.

The high cost is to detract customers who can't afford it. If people are willing to buy it, Riot accepts the money then. It's called economics stemming from the basic law of demand, law of supply, and income effect.
The primary method to get it should be through luck but Riot doesn't mind if anybody would spend a large price for some pixels.
