I wont be buying any emotes

450 RP is too much for each one and has no real impact on my enjoyment. Skins I've spent a bit here and there because some are aesthetically pleasing or have cool effects but the emotes are just so cartoony and for the most part quite ugly

IMO not something that's needed in this game at all

Sometimes I question this companies business moves. They want to make the community less toxic but make these childish emotes? Did Riot really think these would serve any other purpose other than to BM and annoy the enemy? How disconnected is the company and their own game? We got these stupid emotes way before a skin owned tab and I'm absolutely furious lmao.

Is our balance boring to watch competitive?

No, it's the format that's wrong.

Eh, just mute emotes on the scoreboard and items tab. Problem solved. I think they were made with good intentions, they're just way too easy to abuse, similar to champion mastery emotes.

that hasn't stopped Riot from implementing shitty ideas but somehow they hide behind this excuse for every good idea the community gives them.

I think that the problem with the emote stuff is that, as a new tool, they should had make at least 5 crapy emote (not 1) that every player get at the launch so they can play with them in game (like you get free plants/tree/... icon when you create an account) That way, if they get attached to the freedom of expression, they will be more likely to buy a new icon from time to time.

Here, with only one, there is no such thing as "express yourself", just another "spam mastery" like function and the fonction with only become good when old emote will come back for free during event for those who had unlock them. Here paying ful price for something you can even test at full potential before seems wrong imo (and the fact the mute button is here make it not even a consistent cosmetic purchase :s)

Elikain5 votes

Emotes are nothing more than a form of expression at a press of a button.
Something quirky, fun and that can alleviate tension. Of course, the potential to BM is there and that's why they can be disabled as pings can from the scoreboard. In any case, if you have a problem with emotes then you should also have a problem with any other champion emote (like dance, laugh, taunt...) because they are all forms of expression and by god, the only thing in a game that's important is how good you play. The entire environment needs to be as sterile as possible to make you feel as isolated as you can so that you don't tilt off the face of the planet when you lose a matchup.

So no to chat, fuck future voice chat and things like these. We don't need them because the potential for BM is there and we can't have that now, can we? How disconnected are you from reality? You're too quick to judge someone else for their "business" decision and yet, you only look at a world through your own perspective, thinking that only your opinion matters. The fact that you don't want them or need them doesn't mean everyone shares your opinion.

I want some of these emotes but i won't go out of my way to get them.
And the point of emotes wasn't to buy all of them from the start or own most of them as skins. The fact that people have a lot of options to customize their gaming experience in League isn't a bad thing and you should never make it a point to devalue that part. If you don't want to participate in this experience, that's your choice and you can opt out of it at any time. [slayer-jinx-unamused]

Emotes are too childish. Only 6 years old people like them. Even bigger problem is that they made mastery emote bigger than champions.

You are playing a vidya game with talking fish and a teddy bear enthusiast little girl my dude why do you care about ''childrish''.

pro rusher 21 votes

Becouse avrage age of players is high, so here was no point of making emotes for kids.

Source?

My source is avrage age of gamers. Everythink above 13+ is probably too old for this icons. Wich is 82%

Honestly, I think mastery taunting is bad enough. It's usually like 'haha, you got schooled' or trolling. I never mastery taunt, I hate it and I hate people that do it, especially in a spamming way.

The Ghøst King2 votes

i only show my master emote when i mess up hope that doesn't count as taunting

That's the only acceptable time to flash mastery

summoner 4 into Thresh Flay Misses Flash level 7 mastery

Corrupt Bliss3 votes

I mean what about the summoner icons? Those are absolutely useless. However, they provide a way for players to express themselves. Emotes accomplish the same goal. If you're not interested in them, do not but them. But why make a bitch post about somethings that is actually really cool, has zero effect on gameplay, can be turned off, and allows players to express themselves?

They are a business, in the end they dont care about who's toxic and who's not, they will always look at their total earnings for X time period.

It would be different if they costed IP, but they just aren’t worth real money under any circumstance. I won’t be buying any that’s for sure

Not to mention using an emote In-game Could get you killed... lol

Like I'm fine with Emotes costing some amount of real cash, but seriously.....Why are Individual Emotes more expensive than Chromas? These things aren't animated, they're just pictures which splash up. I mean they're cute, but........

GayFluffyUnicorn9 votes

Yeah 3-4€ is just way too much. They cost more than chromas and some chromas actually have nice little details making them worth buying.

Solidair312 votes

I thought for sure they would be available for IP. ~$3-4 is far too much for a fucking emote. For 50 cents maybe but there is no way I'll be touching them, far too expensive.

Edit: Also, I can ALREADY tell some Riot PR bullshit is going to happen where they claim that cosmetic content has always cost RP!

Fuck that bullshit, icons should be IP as well.

HowPlayGAEM9 votes

A while back I got a survey regarding emotes and the pricing was outrageous, ranging from 300 RP to I believe 750.

I offered feedback that those prices were too high, the only way I'd remotely consider paying that price is if the emotes were heavily animated at least at 60 frames per second.

Like 100 RP for a still picture emote (what we currently have) around 300 RP for an animated emote (like 2+ alternating frames, think of neon signs) 500+ RP for top tier animated masterworks at 60 frames per second.

I'm really disappointed in the implementation of these emotes. There's a lot of potential with them, but the current iteration is lazy and expensive. The emotes should be done in a way that they're fun to look at even if used as BM; at the moment they are nothing more than an annoyance that people will disable, and I have a problem with purchasable cosmetics that can be disabled.

ForeverLaxx8 votes

Those feedback boxes on the survey are more useless than the surveys themselves. The surveys are already crafted in such a way that even when you're dissatisfied with whatever it is they're about, you're often only allowed to submit negative responses that reinforce the idea you actually like the concept as a whole but maybe not the specific/current implementation of that concept. When it comes to those boxes though, I'm pretty sure they're just completely ignored.

Riot surveys can be boiled down to something like this:

How satisfied are you with insert Champion/Item/Design here. 1 - Perfectly Satisfied 2 - Very Satisfied 3 - Mostly Satisfied 4 - Somewhat Satisfied; add an animation and charge me more next time 5 - Not Satisfied; I'm just unreasonable and don't play the champ/buy the item/"understand design"

Placentas1 votes

This actually sounds legit & like something I would literally buy into. I generally always have a bit of extra RP like 50-150, so 100 for an emote to buy with leftover RP would be awesome. And then the different tiers of emotes as well.

Leonerdo8 votes

I mean, I'm not gonna spend money on them because I'm poor, but I think they're still a good addition to the game. And I'm sure there will be a few freebies here and there anyways, so I'm not that concerned about the price.

Also, compared to skins, people are going to get a lot more use out of emotes, because they can be used on any champion forever. People are constantly switching which champions they play, so if they want to have a skin for all of them, they need to keep buying skins. I'd guess that on average people have bought 10-20 skins, and that they only regularly use 3-5 of them. But if you want a full wheel of emotes, then you just have to buy 4 emotes, and you're set forever.

So yeah, idk if 450 is really that bad, especially considering there will be plenty of sales and freebies.

Kaeblen2 votes

I would be 10x as likely to buy emotes if: * The base set was free * some of them were available for IP (Even if the one I wanted cost RP, I would be more inclined to pay if I knew that some of them were available for IP) * they cost half as much RP

CrazFight 5 votes

Sadly riot doesn't care if the majority of players buy emotes, even if a minority of players do thats still a good amount of money for them.

LunSeiSleidee5 votes

Riot, as usual, is trying to see how much they can push it to milk the naive playerbase.

Look at how the skins now cost all 1350 RP, even when they should cost 975 RP. They tried to do that, the players didn't complain enough, and so the price remains high.

Now, as Riot usually does, they're once more trying to do something shamelessly greedy and see if the playerbase will accept it.

Don't know about the emotes but I know you can buy the worlds icons under the "Bundles" tab in the store. I guess they made it a bundle because when you buy the Icon, you get the emote too.

I'm pretty sure they were removed sometime in the last week. I didnt see any in there earlier

Gapybo4 votes

This community is letting riot push them around way too much with their prices. Skins being exclusively 1350rp or over, icons and borders locked behind crazy paywalls, icons being RP only and overpriced and now these emotes. Low effort content should never be allowed to cost this much. Champions are cheaper than emotes ffs.

Champion Skin1 votes

Yeah paying RP for icons is because of how low visibility they have... especially so with all the missions that requires you to equip some specific icon

Like icons are more useful/visible here on boards (which not everyone use) rather than in the client or game itself

StoryDuck3 votes

I agree, too expensive.

SweedishGunner3 votes

They look really bad anyways. Compared to the stickers here on the boards they're pretty dull.

SweedishGunner3 votes

I wonder if the emotes were Tencents idea?

Arakadia1 votes

If its a bad idea its Tencents idea right?!?

SweedishGunner3 votes

Oh don't get me wrong I'm not defending Riot, I just wonder if they were pushed onto Riot as a way of making more by Tencent or whether they made the choice themselves. Either way the emotes suck.

Dorans Pants3 votes

wow and i thought sommoner-icons were overpriced, but that just takes the cake. I mean this is as low effort as u can get and it's still fairly high priced. If this proofs to be successful and how could it not, when you have to put barely any resources into it, while you only need a few dumb overenthusiastic people to buy this shit, to make a profit out of it, then its official riot can sell its player base anything and it will just suck it up.

I know technically everyone has the right to choose for himself, how much he is willing to pay, but please this is not worth your money, your time or your attention.

what´s next? "high-quality" stick figures emotes for 5 dollars each?

shmurphylee3 votes

Toxicity in League of Legends is the worst I've ever seen in any game. Even the employees are toxic. Skins, emotes, champs etc are all over priced. They want you to be toxic so they can perma ban you and therefor resell you the same champs and skins you already had. If you are a Masochist this game is for you!! :)

Kotex2 votes

I dunno... the white flag emote would be pretty comical to have lol

I agree. I am not spending money on emotes when I could be spending on occasional skins.

Unless there are Soraka or Azir emotes. Gimme.

i was a bit hyped for emotes thought it would be funny to do the mad cat one when i mess up or die in a silly way, but costing so much rp no thanks i can just type "gg me" in chat for the same effect. i think them being $3-4 each would be fine if they costed ip as well cuz then you could farm for them or buy it wish cash if its one your really want
