I have 123 of the 139 champs

ForFoxSakes··71 votes·3,847 views

I'm missing 16 of some of the most expensive champs remaining or missing 11.5%, but own 88.5%. Just added up the costs to get the remaining 16 champs is 84,000 BE. Chances of getting the shards I need are super slim since 6300 champ shards are ultra rare from leveling capsules

In order to get that BE, I NEED TO LEVEL UP ~80 TIMES. Averaging 910 BE per level and 1,980 at every 10 interval. Factoring in some BE for the FWotD too

Just hit level 40, so I need to be around level 120 before I have all the champs in the current game, but by that time I'd expect 3-4 more champs to have been released by then which adds to the vicious cycle.

Obtaining champs is seriously ugly for those who don't have them all. To those people who have even less than I do, good fucking luck

i know im playing devils advocate here, but have you factored in mastery chests? its not much, but if half of them contain champion shards, you should be able to gain some more blue essence from that.

you can get somewhere between 30 to 40 chest per season.

also, if youre missing 16 champions, you might be able to get 6 of them for 3900 blue essence each, if the blue essence shop returns with mystery champions. that should save you another almost 16k blue essence.

daily wins give you another 350 blue essence per week if you win 1 game every day.

also every 10 levels, you get those glorious capsules with about 2000 blue essence worth of shards instead of 900.

this should cut about 20 levels overall from what youd need to get the remaining 16 champions.

........................................................................................................................................................

id definitely save up and wait for the blue essence shop to return before you buy any more champions, if you dont want a certain one really badly.

riot said it will come back in regular intervals and you can only buy mystery champions with blue essence, until youre missing your last 10 champions.

so each champion that you buy before the shop returns might cost you an extra 2400 blue essence if they offer the deal again next time. you only want to buy your last 10 champions directly.

Yes Daddy PIease5 votes

now bringing it out to the rest of us who don't have that many champs

we need to buy champs to get chests that we cant get because we dont have the funds to get champs lol

Kanzler3 votes

Pretty sure Mastery chests exclusively give garen or annie shards.

ForFoxSakes3 votes

I factored in the milestone capsules into my 80 level calc.

Also zero consideration in spending any BE on mastery token upgrades with all BE going towards champs. Said in another post on this thread that I'm missing 8 of the 32 6300 cost champs which is 25% chance to get a shard I'd need on milestone level up, possible but not the best odds to bank on

Hextech chests are also random. Could pad the BE a bit, but with emotes being released 5 of the 6 chests I've opened up have been emotes and the last one a skin shard DEing for 270 OE :/

Not to mention using champs shards for reduced be costs

I have 83 champs, but that's by choice. I don't take the Pokemon approach to collect them all. I try champs when they're free, and if I suck badly with them or don't like their kit, I avoid purchasing them. A good portion of my games are ARAM. To avoid getting stuck with crap I'd rather not play, I simply don't own them to reduce the odds of getting them. I have 262k BE and dozens of shards I'm too lazy to disenchant. Champs take a while to collect, sure. But I see that as a good thing. Champs take a while to master. By spreading them out, by the time you're able to buy another one, you've become "pretty good" with the last one you bought. I see it as a tier of champs, rather than a collection for the sake of simply having them unlocked. Different approaches for different people I suppose.

Placentas4 votes

I agree so much.

Realistically people aren't using 50 champions a week. I'm sure there are a few people who are like that, but I am willing to bet most do not. I only need 6 more champions and out of the ones I own I still need to "gitgood" at about 1/4 of them or so. But realistically I probably wont because I dont have much of a desire to play them.

Sp33d Zer02 votes

I like having all my champions because it means I can trade anything in ranked. But if you only play normal blinds or something, you really don't need it.

Mysticman898 votes

People with less champions are that much more likely to get a champ shard for someone they don't yet own, and I'm pretty sure the milestone capsules guarantee a 6300 shard among their goodies, on top of the admittedly slim chance for them from standard level capsules.

And I mean, it took a long time to buy all champs in the old system too. This system we have nothing better to put the BE towards anyway, while before it was runes or champs.

I disagree with you about the shards odds. Right now I have 17 different champs worth of shards, but I own 16 of the champions already. By this guy's count, I'm missing 56 champions, but none of my shards focus on those. I think it's purely random, personally.

Mysticman893 votes

I think you misinterpreted what I said about them having less champs.

If one person has 120/139 champs and another has 121/139 champs, the person with 120 champs has better odds of getting a champ shard for a champion they don't own than the person with 121. The champ shard drop rates aren't changing, it's just theres one more possible champ that is 'new' to that player.

So new players who own almost no champs are pretty much guaranteed to get a champ shard for a champ they don't own, but veterans who own all but a couple have an extremely slim chance of getting one of the champs they don't yet have.

edit: (Also I think it's actually 138 champs currently.)

Yes Daddy PIease2 votes

but theyll basically be never able to unlock said champions

Terozu2 votes

That makes no sense.

ForFoxSakes2 votes

The 10 level interval gave a 6300 champ shard yes but I had the one it gave me so it went to the BE pile. I'm missing 8 of the 32 top 6300 cost champs so about 25% chance to get one I need on a milestone. Still not great odds

If you have a higher chance to use a shard then it also means you will have less shards to DE to unlock those shards too. If you had to bank something like 6 shards for champs you dont own you have to wait even longer now to unlock another one, or risk DEing a shard for a champ you dont have and not getting it back again. Either way isn't favorable

Mysticman893 votes

For the most part theres no hurry to unlock all champs though, and theres no other great need for BE now that runes are free.

I'm 5ish champs from a full set, and could purchase 3 or 4 of them with BE outright currently, but I'm unlikely to actually do so, and probably even same when get enough BE to buy all of them, since I'd rather just wait for their shards to drop.

Basically, get the champs you actually want to play one way or another, then from that point on just DE duplicates and save shards/BE until you can upgrade them, and in the long term it'd result in a faster full collection than if you were to DE non-duplicates as they come and buy from the store.

CithriaC1 votes

Isn't getting all of the champions going to take a shorter amount of time with this system? According to the Riot graph you are getting more BE overall which makes it faster than it would of been under the old system.

When you get shards, you might get a shard for a champion that you need, which is a 40% discount, every 10 levels also gives you a guarenteed 6300 shard so you may get a few needed champions from the milestones and level ups

When you are unlocking champions I suggest keeping all the not needed 4800 and 6400 champion shards, you can use them quickly get a champion if you find a useful shard, or if you feel an urge to get a champion. At the end it won't even make a difference, but you can use it to quickly buy any newly released champions.

Getting all the champions in the game was always going to take a long time, the levels just make us realize how long it's going to take.

MisoTroll4 votes

Now please imagine that the level cap was lifted last season but IP remained the currency and we didn't have loot boxes for BE. Please calculate the number of levels ups needed to purchase all these champs. I'll wait.

Edit: I got impatient. Fact is you'd have to level up...surprise surprise: 80(ish) times!!! WOAH, IT'S LIKE THE ACTUALLY FIGURED OUT HOW MUCH IP WE GET ON AVERAGE PER GAME AND FACTORED THAT NUMBER INTO THE AMOUNT OF BE/BOX. But since it's possible to get the shard you're looking for, it's factually cheaper (on average) for people to purchase champs. Moral of the story is this: stop bitching and play the fkin FREE game.

People complain as though it wasn't a pain to get IP to buy champions before. It's just as much a pain for the most part, and slightly less of a pain for some people (like me, who get FWOTD on bots every day and plays a little more on some days).

Wow a non-negative comment to the truth. This is becoming quite rare these days...thanks bro.

Just rare on the Boards, which are a small percentage of League players. The League subreddit (a lot higher percentage of the playerbase) got over the BE switch a while ago.

Just keep having fun with what you're having fun with, no matter what the Boards say! :)

TaunkaTruck3 votes

I think you're undercutting your own point though. Your contention is you're trying to "catch them all," but BE gains mean it takes you a long time. I assume most people don't buy champs just for the sake of buying them, people have preferences. People complained about IP gains back in 2009 when I started. Yet then, as now, people still managed to acquire champions and the game goes on. The fact you've gotten 123 champions means you have more than enough to have multiple champions for each role. An average player could get by with 20 I'd argue. 3-4 picks for each role.

I've taken the time to consider your mention of my gains as well. I've gained 1000 BE from first wins of the day and that sort of thing. I've gained 7740 BE from champion shards (I just tallied up my shard values of them). So that means since the conversion last month, I've gained 8740 BE in a month. I play maybe 3-4 ARAM games a day. Assuming each is 30 minutes, I play 2 hours a day.

2 hours a day for a month, and I have enough shards to buy a new champ at 6300. Older ones are less, but we'll work with that. So light play gets me 1-2 champ a month. That is the same rate it was when LoL first started. People used to complain on the forums that the moment they ground out enough IP to buy the newest champ, another was released. People had issue keeping up. I was one of those guys at one point, trying to keep up. So my stance is simply that their rate presently is no worse than it use to be, it's arguably higher. Not much, but hopefully you understand my point.

I have all of them but still think this BE thing is a super bad idea...

Stupafly3 votes

im glad i had every champ before the changes because this sounds so brutal.... take an upvote for your cause.

Wimbledofy1 votes

No it was just as brutal before. I started season 3/4 and it took me 3 seasons to get all champs.

Placentas3 votes

Why do people even want to own all the champions anyway? I've been playing for like 4 years and I only need about 6 more champions. I literally don't use over half the champions that I own, it's purely the collector in me. Like I need Yorick & Skarner, I'll buy them eventually but lord knows I will never play them.

And even then, I'm sure most people aren't consistently using 20+ different champions per week. I would bet most people use around 5-10 different champions in a given week, and most probably use less than that sticking to their core of 5 or less mains or so.

And not to mention there's a new batch of free to play champions every week or so. If you're playing consistently enough to want to own all the champions, then you play enough to be patient enough to wait a week or two to play the champion you want to try out.

If it matters

My smurf got 4000 BE off the project event.

General Esdeath 2 votes

WOAH hold on there fam, are you using math to prove the new system is flawed? That's it, someone get me the paddle!

Wimbledofy2 votes

He didn't prove anything though. Old system was just as terrible if you wanted all the champs/

General Esdeath 1 votes

Except he's showing how little BE we gain compared to old IP system.

Wimbledofy2 votes

He didn't though, he showed no comparison. A comparison requires 2 things to be shown, he showed 1 thing.

General Esdeath 1 votes

~910 BE per level

Count how many games you need per level

Now compare that to how much you used to gain in that same amount of games

Wimbledofy1 votes

I'm not the one who's supposed to compare it though.

General Esdeath 1 votes

But we're not all OP, you need to look at it compared to how you gained, and with a majority of the community, it's worse now.

Trias0002 votes

Has it ever been different? It took me like 4 years to collect all champions.

Skorch3 votes

Kind of? i mean one issue is i hit level 30 at like 1 year in. Who KNOW what level i would be if experience from all games. Who knows maybe im level like 200, in which case 80 doesnt seem so bad. But its still a lot. another issue is it definetly feels slower, i know in the old days if i played 3 days straight nonstop i could get a 6300. With the new exp system if i play for a day straight i get like 1 and a half levels. And a level is like 1/7th of a champion. So it will take over double the amount of time (AT LEAST IT FEELS) than it used to.

Mister Support1 votes

If you're doing the non-stop play for many days straight yeah it will take longer. Riot's shown their numbers in an article posted up by Riot Cactopus. Once you play more than 9 games a day, you will start to see a decline in the amount of BE you get now compared to the IP system. However, in all honesty, 9 games in a day would be 5-9 hours minimum including time in client and I'm hoping breaks for things like bathroom and food. For MOST people you will earn faster than before, but for your case of non-stop play then yeah, you'll earn slower. It will suck for you, but you could also adjust the amount you play to be more spread out throughout a week so you earn at a decent rate still and can focus more on some other things in life.

Skorch1 votes

JSYK i almost never play several days straight unless im getting close to the end of an event or just REALLY want a champion. Typically i play 2-3, but if friends are feeling it all day or im close to a champion i can play it for a long time.

Another thing that annoys me though is im like 90% sure Riot mightve flat lied. Didnt they say this system was actually slightly faster because champion capsules drop like 720/980/1120/1300BE or something like that? and old system after X EXP was like 950 was the old average. Im calling bullshit on those numbers i have gotten 980 or less in 8/8 capsules.

HexaDecimel1 votes

Riot stated that Level Up capsules will contain a minimum of 910 BE.

Skorch1 votes

Well then i am really fucking unlucky because i havent seen 1000BE in a capsule yet.

HexaDecimel1 votes

Its the total value from the skin shards combined with any BE that is included in the capsule. Most of mine have been around 950.

Wimbledofy1 votes

you mean champ shards? skin shards don't come from leveling up.

Mister Support1 votes

Its a minimum of 810 per level which will keep progression the same or higher with the rate you said you play especially when considering fwotd. It may feel slower though just because you're hard focused on viewing the progression rate unlike before the update.

Averey Nottings2 votes

Will you continue to play the game after obtaining all of the champs? Is that your drive?

Will you play the game less if you obtain all of them, only logging on when there is a new champ?

If you find that the main goal of this game is to obtain and play the new champs, what period of time between champion releases would you expect to obtain the last released champ? At what rate?

Should newer players have catch-up features that could be perceived as invalidation of time spent to other players? (Leveling Chests)

If so, what reduction % should new players receive? (Unlock cost vs. buyout cost)

It's almost like the free to play business model implies you need to pay real money to have EVERYTHING in the game

Who would have thought. A business whose purpose is to make money for shareholders does not want to give you 100% of the gameplay content for free...

JustSaiyan692 votes

Except the previous system actually gave you more per game than this new Be system. They made it incredibly unrewarding and grindy too. At least when you had IP you knew for sure what rate you'll get the champ at, now it's rng.

ZephyrDrake1 votes

ok and? you can also get a champion shard of those that you don't have and the cost will decrease significantly. You don't need to have every single champion in the game.

SzGamer2271 votes

80 levels, 100,000 IP. Same thing, just with different appearance. Unless you play a much higher than average number of games than the average player you will be just as close to unlocking the remaining champions as you were before preseason, if not a little closer.

XDaAdriX1 votes

I have 16 champions on this account not even enough to play ranked when the new season starts.

I'm honestly gonna stop playing on this account until they make some serious changes, that is even if they are going to make changes. it feels meaningless to win and even worse when you lose. Leveling up is all about RNG to get BE or a champ that you want

Its SIMPLE FIX let us earn BE just as we did IP. But unfortunately i doubt they would ever even consider that. [cass-cry]
