How did Elise get to her current state

stealthfox94··1 votes·780 views

I've played against her in a couple games and couldn't believe how much damage she did. I just checked lolking and she now has a 52% and 16% ban rate. Which is craze considering not long ago she had the worst win rate in the game. My question is how did the buffs make her this strong?

I'd say the biggest thing was the spiderling changes. V5.14:

Cocoon Stun duration increased to 1.6 / 1.7 / 1.8 / 1.9 / 2 seconds from 1 / 1.25 / 1.5 / 1.75 / 2.

Spider Swarm Spiderling Damage type changed to magical from physical. AP ratio increased to (+15% AP) from (+10% AP). Movement speed increased to** 355 from 345**. Fixed a bug which caused Spiderlings to not move or attack for 4 seconds after the first cast of Rappel.

Pretty much this right here, the spiderlings doing magic damage is a massive buff to her damage overall because most of the items that she builds include magic penetration, so before when the damage was falling off due to it being physical, now it doesn't because you're building resistance penetration for it. Plus that bug fix is a massive damage boost because if you rappelled on a target you lost about 3-3.5 seconds of damage on that target from the spiderlings not attacking.

Pair that with the fact that she had tremendous mana problems in the jungle, and Runeglaive came out eliminating that problem, she basically just has virtually unlimited sustain in the jungle after completing runeglaive.

Don't get me wrong the stun gaining a whole .6 seconds is great, in fact it's huge, .6 doesn't seem like much, but you can throw out a whole lot more damage if the enemy is unable to go anywhere for a half a second longer. The stun improvement isn't the major thing though.

She's likely to get hit by the nerfbat, because her buffs paired with the AP item changes made her a complete monster, not that I'm complaining, I love my spider queen.

Amen.

These changes were not all added in 5.14.

Haha, I get downvoted like it's not true.

Uhm... those were the changes from 5.14 for Elise.

Her stun is now a one-point skill. This lets her max Q or W for more damage early on.

Spiderlings changed to magic damage, so magic pen. is more efficient on her.

She also likes runeglaive and the sheen proc.

I like her being playable. Picked her up this patch, she's fun and by no means freelo, she's quite hard to use but rewarding.

Pretty much this, allowed her to get the sheen proc earlier than she normally would, the stun change was massive but imo the spiderling thing was the biggest change, she already built a fair amount of penetration and those guys just pushed her over the edge. (Which I'm fine with :D)

Well I was playing her since S4 and I can tell you she was strong before, but falling off by a shitton late game and late mid game. I mostly played her top lane(after the MS buff I started playing her jungle again) and I beat up everything from Gnars to Rivens and Jaxes.

Still, I think I would get item 3930 if I played her jungle, with a item 3100 or item 3025 for Sheen.

She now scales with damage items.

Her spiderlings can really pack a whallop now, and her stun lasts forever

gaby1best1 votes

You do not know what forever means. Morgana

CatSith1 votes

Id rather eat Elise's cocoon than a 3 second bind that does 300 damage+90% ap at max level from Morgana (oh and it also has a really long range and huge hit box! )

It doesnt take much to put old problem champions over the edge. Which is why I dont get G&B's passion for super overbuffing or overnerfing things. If we left it to G&B Elise would have been buffed much harder.

It's not the changes to her, it's the addition of Runeglaive. Her clear speeds couldn't keep up with other junglers at all (or even close to it) runeglaive changed that.

@Apex Either list all the changes or none at all, you only included the positive changes.

Her clear speed before was fine, she also had the added bonus of decent sustain while clearing (which was further improved.)

I'm not saying runeglaive was bad for her, because it absolutely wasn't, but it's just one of several factors that contributed to her steady rise.

CatSith1 votes

Her sustain wasn't improved, its weaker. Her old heal was better.

gaby1best1 votes

What do you mean? Her clearspeed was more than good, Runeglaive just boosted it.

gaby1best1 votes

Maybe she was FED? Also, you probably have no idea how to deal with Elise.

uh no. I one shot her pretty easily playing Malzahar. But she still did a ton of damage.

gaby1best1 votes

You can't one shot as Malzahar, you're not Veigar. And of course, if she can't get close to you(you're Malzahar after all) she won't be able to deal damage to you, so you kill her(especially if she built AP).

Riot listened to Bronzies on Reddit and buffed her for no reason.

Now she's horrendously broken.

Go figure.

You know, one time I picked up elise and lost 11 straight matches with her. I regret wanting Elise buffs.

Lol She needed a buff and she isn't Horrendously broken.

Quick examination of her recent buffs.

The spiderlings now do magic damage, and had their AP ratio increased from 10 -> 15%. Since your allowed 2 spiderling before level 6, your early game DPS increases by 10% AP. This also increases their DPS against Monsters, since monsters don't have MR. This is in addition to her spiderling being over all more responsive. (a big QoL buff)

I would actually argue that the stun buff is better. Against monsters, it means your taking less damage when doing camps. But ultimately gives you good Ganking power, whether your using her as an Assassin or Tank.

except you don't use the stun on monsters otherwise you run out of mana pretty fast. she has enough sustain after the first clear that she doesn't need to.
