A small thematic buff to Yorick

Malicious Metal··90 votes·4,010 views

Unlike other Juggernauts Yorick's late game is pretty...how do I put it...Garbage. He struggles a tad because most of his damage resides in his Mistwalkers and the 4 of 'em get killed really easily come late game.

But that's intended, they're just that, corpses imbued with some Black mist. And here I am, thinking there's a way to fix that while also upping Yorick's thematic appeal of an ever-growing army of the undead.

Shepard of Lost Souls; New effect For every 50(?) Graves Yorick digs with "Last Rites" he increases the Mistwalker cap by one, stacking infinitely

It would make Yorick so much more interesting while making him feel much more like the Shepard of Souls he's supposed to be. Plus it'd be really cool seeing Yorick march down a lane with 10 mist walkers in tow!

Unlike other Juggernauts

more mist walkers is what I'd like but really the thing that'd make him more fun for me is shifting him away from triforce and more towards items that better benefit his ghouls and maiden. tforce has 0 synergy with his kit besides his Q but it's not like his scaling is anything special, so the best choice is to build trinity and bop people with Q spam early/mid game

Ralanr1 votes

Towards items like BC?

Big Lincoln8 votes

AD heavier builds in general would make me happy

he's supposed to be a minionmancer but I really feel way more impact coming out of my Qs and Maiden's % damage bursts than the DPS from ghoul/maiden AAs. kinda kills the fun for me, especially with how easily ghouls pop anyway

Glory ln Death1 votes

I think giving him better access to his ghouls, potentially through the suggested cap increase, would do a lot to better favor items that benefit his ghouls. At least for the late game.

You read Hashinshin's comment on the Reddit page, didn't ya?

EDIT: I do agree tho, that'd be really cool

Big Lincoln2 votes

ye but i've felt the same as he has since the rework

i want more emphasis on ghouls

and ghoul accessories

Sahn Uzal2 votes

Yeah. Honestly, we have so many champions that can bonk you with a big sheen proc. Yorick has a very unique way of dealing damage through Mistwankers, but often he feels like just another bonk champion because of how his power budget is spent.

Unpaladin1 votes

Triforce provides attack speed for synergy with the Maiden's bonus damage, Sheen for more reliable damage output on his Q, and Phage to get in range and stick to his opponents. Triforce benefits him plenty in ways that promote his juggernaut-style gameplay. I'm not sure what kind of item you want to synergize with him, some kind of Black Cleaver without the Cleaver or a Blade of the Ruined King less AS more AD and HP instead of lifesteal? I'd say Triforce is good enough at what it does well and should be appreciated.

Not to mention how instead of a threatening juggernaut you'd prefer someone who relies even more on minion summoning then he already does -- is it really desirable to focus his entire buildpath into his minions? An item change or two is fine but this would make Riot go down a completely different path. No one would want a melee malzahar 2.0 in that his potential completely flops once he loses them.

Big Lincoln7 votes

attack speed does not synergize with Maiden's damage, it has an internal cooldown of 2 seconds. a.spd is just for autos

tforce is almost expressly built so he can bop people (and turrets) harder with Q, and i'm not a fan of it

AirKingNeo3 votes

Hashinshin said something similar in a comment on r/YorickMains about the current buffs.

https://www.reddit.com/r/yorickmains/comments/6jnoco/changes_in_testing_for_314/djfv48w/

His minions have no AoE resist, and no resistances at all. This means some champions like Riven can just AoE them down, or champions like Trundle can just lifesteal off his maiden while you can't actually do anything about it (since he'll literally out heal you...) I want to note Riven doesn't even intend to AoE them down, she just uses her kit and it happens to kill all of yours.

Yorick's Q is way too early game focused. Can't you maybe take some damage off the early game (maybe 10?) but give it some either armor pen or %HP? It's kinda fucky that the best way to play Yorick is with Trinity (which has NO synergy with his kit other than bopping people with Q) and just use his high base damage to Q people early/mid game.

Following 2 I just want to say it's really fucky to me that, again, the best way to play Yorick is just bopping people with Trinity Q and practically ignoring that you're supposed to be a minion master. Nobody builds BC or other items that actually synergize with his kit because his kit sucks some dick at actually working.

Variks the Loyal8 votes

I like it. Although it wouldn't fix an issue of them being AoE'd down rapidly.

There could be some computer related concerns with so many AI being on the map at once, though, assuming you get to stack it up to Nasus-like levels. How about a flat boost on every ult rank? Like, At Ranks 1/2/3, increase the cap to 6/8/10?

FantasySniper6 votes

The game already handles 70+ AI-controlled entities at a time, doubling or even tripling it wouldn't visibly affect the servers.

The worst you would have to worry about are FPS issues.

there's currently a buff to maidens health pool and decreasing her cd on pbe as well as increasing the minions e jump range. but yeah i'd love if you could increase mist walkers with digging enough graves.

AirKingNeo2 votes

Those buffs don't do much and Yorick needs big buffs.

Friendly Ram2 votes

+1000 max health+400 hop range+10 ghoul damage+ ghouls doing damage as soon as they hop=not much?

AirKingNeo2 votes

Hop range implies he hits E.

Maiden buffs don't matter because he's an early game champion and late game Maiden's problem wasn't low HP.

Ghoul damage is going down at earlier levels.

Jamenawerl5 votes

I completely agree.

He should be THE necromancer, yet he feels like another generic juggernaut whose damage is even more unreliable than his peers'. He needs more emphasis on his summons, and no, I dont mean making him more useless everytime his 3 minute cd ult is on cd (which unexpectedly is most of the time).

Since the rework he is awesome visually, but honestly thats it, the old Yorick almost felt better.

Well. Yorick's main issue is that he CAN'T summon ghouls off the bat. Zyra, Heimer and Malzahar can get their minions off quickly but Yorick is gated to hard. HIm being able to summon minions with his E in exchange for a smalle debuff would mean that he would have ghouls on hand. After the laning phase, if he lands his E on a target that would reward him with ghouls that jump up and wail on his target. Yorick is too damn reliant on his ghouls and if he don't have them, most of the time he is forced to run. Most juggernauts can still force fights and make an arrogant carry suffer if they are not too fed but Yorick can't. It's a critical weakness that he has unlike most juggs.

Using E on a grave to immediately summon them, maybe? Or when enemies die while affected by E, they always spawn a grave?

You don't want this. I will make entire teams cry with over 3000 dps.

Sorakas Pantheon1 votes

Eternal7913 votes

I actually find Yorick's late game to be pretty good. Yeah, he relies heavily on the Maiden for team fights, but his Q and Walkers still do tons of damage, even without the Maiden attacking the same target as you.

Hexs Fortune3 votes

Triforce provides attack speed for synergy with the Maiden's bonus damage

People keep saying this as if they don't know maidens bonus damage has a 2 second cd.

Ðelofasht3 votes

The major issue here is that being able to summon more MWs would result in more visual clutter which isn't such a great idea. However, increasing the scaling of the Mistwalkers might actually be the best option, have them scale with ranks in Maiden of the Mists or Dark Procession or BOTH! Some small scaling such as durability (health, resists) or increasing the AD scaling further or something might work out. A passive is the easiest change, but mechanical changes could work too.

Yorick needs Ghouls. they die easy late game. Everytime I say that Yorick needs better ways to getting ghouls outside the laning phase that shit gets downvoted. In other words. Yorick would have an insane late game if he could summon them quickly.

I get that, getting ghouls lategame is really difficult as Yorick, but that's what your ult is for.

Yorick doesn't need buffs, people just build him wrong. My yorick build is item 3071 item 3512 item 3056 item 3065 item 3812 item 3111.

Haven't even come close to losing a lane, yet.

The Ecdysiast3 votes

Probably because you're not high enough rank to be fighting any opponents who actually show whether or not a champion needs buffs. no bm, it's just a fact that some champs you'd have little hope of winning with at high levels of skill are strong in bronze-silver-gold.

I'm newly silver, but my mechanics are still diamond. I rose from B5 to D2 in 1 season. In your defense, that was before the rework, but I don't think that makes too much of a difference when you build correctly. The problem is, all you people build ridiculous items like Triforce and use your maiden solely to split push instead of using her in team fights for the bonus magic damage. You'd be amazed to see how quickly you can pick up double kills when outnumbered by using maiden and building tank.

Black Cleaver into Steraks is also a good build path.

I do agree that rank has to be taken into account, but itemization is pretty stable across the board, with the exception of certain divers (which doesn't apply to Yorick) being built glass and certain assassins (which also doesn't apply to Yorick) building built off-tank.

The Ecdysiast1 votes

Even if that didn't sound like the line every silver player says, it doesn't matter if your mechanics are diamond on champions who require low mechanical skill like juggernauts, and especially Yorick.

And yeah itemization is stable across the board. Which is exactly why op made the thread. His strongest build is struggling. Others in his class do his job better, with other additional strengths.

True. Yorick needs more power for himself and more consistent ghouls. His sustain is terrible and needs to be buffed while his ghouls needs to be added bonus, not the bulk of his damage.

I still have access to the board's profile of my diamond account even though I banned from client. Will what I say be any more/less relevant if I comment from my "K54" or "Talon Wukong" account?

Or maybe you'd just call me a troll if I logged onto my "Fizz Wukong" account which is currently level 13. Or maybe the "Talon Wukayn IV" I literally just made when they revealed Kayn.

Rank doesn't determine how creditable my words are. There are some people in B5 with enough game knowledge to coach LCS champions but they're B5 because they fail at execution. Regardless, if somebody says something that makes sense, you shouldn't shove it aside.

The perfect example of this is the diamond Wukong players and the highest win rate Wukong players build MonkeyKing item 3142 item 3071 item 3147 item 3026 item 3111 item 3812 with Thunderlords and the ideology around that build is EQW > reset and his ult is irrelevant. That build is stupid, but people like you call it Wukong's best build just like for some weird ass reason people build item 3078 on Yorick when it has absolutely 0 benefit to his kit.

My Wukong build is item 3071 item 3053 item 3065 item 3068 item 3075 + boots with and it's god tier. I die less than the glass cannon Kongs even with I'm playing with one of my diamond buddies in their diamond ranked game.

In your defense again, I've never had the opportunity to use new Yorick in high elo, but my playstyle would be the same. Rush BC and let mistwalkers melt the enemy while I farm safely until I can afford my Zzrot.

The Ecdysiast2 votes

First of all, the numbers don't lie. If it's his best build, it's his best. And yours actually has several major flaws in that he doesn't have high enough base AD to make Sterak's a worthwhile purchase--- and if you don't build a spellblade on top of Sterak's it's even less useful. Then there's the fact Sunfire was heavily nerfed.

And in fact, you didn't say something that makes sense from the start. OP didn't say ANYTHING at all about how he builds Yorick, and you went straight to assuming he doesn't know how to build while simultaneously claiming that a build you came up with that works in high bronze mmr which contradicts his core build in plat+ is godlike and how everyone should be building him. Then went on to talking about a completely different champion.

To claim that your playstyle would be the same in high elo is just wishful thinking.

Guess they stuck with "garbage late game".

I approve of that! He needs some recompensation after the nerf he will get soon ( ghouls dmg from 10 to 2 early)

Higher target acquisition rage with E, they immediately attack after jumping to marked targets, and Maiden's health increase at higher ranks.

ThePikol1 votes

Yes, one guaranteed attack of 2 dmg! Incredible! Seriously, enemies won't even bother killing ghouls now

Glory ln Death2 votes

Except you know very well that it isn't "one guaranteed attack of 2 dmg!" It's a guaranteed attack of 2 (+6/level)(+30% AD), as opposed to a delayed attack of 10(+5/level)(+30% AD). So, at level 1, his ghouls will deal 19 damage, not 2 damage, and they'll attack twice in the same time that they currently attack once - so 38 damage instead of 27 damage.

Plus, you aren't going to be getting ghouls at level 1 in most games, so you'll normally see them with only 7 less damage than live (27 damage vs 34 damage, or 54 damage from 2 attacks instead of 34 damage from 1 attack). As well, the ghoul's damage becomes higher once you hit level 9.

I am seriously offending by the stupidity of people thinking that Yorick's Ghouls only doing 2 damage. Like you said people are forgetting that they scale and it's is a buff to both his early and late game. this means that Mourning Mists now technically now deals 1 to 4 ghoul damage if it lands that like 8+ 120% AD if yorick has 4 ghouls.

Some people are just moronic as fuck.

What part of this would be a "Small Buff" infinite ghoul-walkers would be an utter nightmare to balance.

How about instead he gets 4 Bonus Ghoul-walkers for every-rank into his Maiden.

Glory ln Death2 votes

Because, in order for him to have 10 total ghouls (6 extra), he would have to dig 300 graves. Basically a combination of 300 champion kills/assists, minion/monster kills with Q, and every X enemy that dies near him.

Honestly, he'd be lucky to get 3 extra ghouls in most games.
