Why suddenly Brand?

I've noticed an over abundance of Brands since the the latest patch I've had a Brand in most of my games, usually in support but also in mid. They usually dominate in kills and damage but seem to have problems working with their team or generally being a good support outside of killing the lane opponent. So my question is why? What happened? I didn't see any patch changes to him so why is Support Brand suddenly extremely popular? Is it to counter the tank supports with his burn?

I believe the idea started back when Dark Horses said it was viable. Not to mention, people have found who is currently OP. He has a stun, tons of damage, a multihit ultimate, tons of damage, passive over time painful damage, tons of fucking damage, and he has huge range. A good Brand will be able to beat any enemy.

Buff to Frostfang (from 50% mana regen to 100% mana regen, increase in tribute gold) made him strong support. Also DFT mastery helped.

He has always been strong, but the new meta and new items/masteries have pushed him over the edge like some people have mentioned. Its all about ADCs. Brand is a combo mage. He has low scalings but high base damage. DFT is being nerfed and FQC made supp Brand much better.

He is immobile. He requires two spells to stun you, one being an extremely telegraphed and simple to avoid skillshot. The only other mage that needs two spells to stun is Syndra but her stun is much farther and easier to hit.

Brand's damage is extremely overtuned, plus deathfire touch triggers from each tick of his passive. When they introduced the new masteries, he took the stage by storm. He was already played enough beforehand however. He's never been a "bad" champion. Sort of like Anivia. Anivia has the highest win rate of any midlaner but she's harder to play/not as popular so some people forget that she is overpowered. Brand can kill anything ranging from assassins to tanks quickly.

yeah brand just dominates in every game i see him in. his range is absurd. and his passive works really well on anybody. tanks squishies you name it. and his ult is great for team fights. great cc. his kit is overloaded with both damage and utility in doing damage.

He was always extremely strong and never nerfed. And only now people do realize how much damage he can deal.

Both Deathfire Touch and Thunderlord's Decree synergize extremely well with his passive, which is a big part of his newfound power. He was never particularly weak, and this pushed him over the edge.
