So Zed, a little too in the limelight?

Ok, so i find Zed to be a little on the extreme in terms of mid laners...The only AP mid laner that can counter him is lissandra only by ulting to stop his ult. If you want to count people like Ahri you have to get the charm down right. But most of the time and with most of the champions, your gonna be scared stiff of going up to cs, BECAUSE getting to close means getting a Zed ulting you, and any good Zed is gonna freeze the lane as long as possible to deny you cs. Not only that but Zed can also buy items such as Hydra and BotRK to apply additional damage to the ultimate.

Now i have heard arguments such as "Stay under tower so that way you can cs safely." Which would be a good idea, except Zed is one of the best tower divers in the game, simply throwing out a shadow out of turret range will make sure he stays alive after he has finished mincing you.

I have also heard "buy a Zhonya's." Now, yes, the primary item to counter zed...the problem is between the time that you can build enough money to build a Zhonya's he may very well have gotten a couple of kills on you and/or built enough items to where the ult doesn't matter anymore. Also by that time he is gonna have roamed to other lanes and picked up more kills from them. So do you expect your whole team to buy Zhonya's just to deal with that one guy?

You also cant really say "Well flash/move under turret if he ults you", because he already has a safe escape outside of turret range.

Champion pools that counter him are slim at best, and even those learning to pick up zed may find it easy to counter items with. So i think this Champ may be one that needs a few nerfs, what with all the damage, essentially 3 long range "flashes," and an ult that can kill almost anyone if they cant get away from him.

If you're consistently dying to Zed players multiple times before Zhonya's then its you thats bad and has nothing to do with Zed's state of balance.

Pro tips

  1. Buy Seekers armguard
  2. Dont stay in lane with low HP.
  3. Dodge his poke and take advantage of the downtime when his shadow is on cooldown.
  4. Keep your distance, if you play safe he usually cannot poke/kill you
  5. If you just got poked down by w q e combo and hes level 6+ STAY AWAY from the shadow, do not run forward or he will merely swap with the shadow and ult you for a kill. Instead wait until the shadow dissipates.

actually you can lane against zed with a number of mids. orianna and ahri come to the forefront of my mind here. you aren't expected to "win" lane against zed, but rather he can't deny you from farming with these champs and late game you bring a lot more utility to your team than Zed will.

Actually, quite a few mid lane champions can do well against Zed.

Beside's Lissandra's ult, Fizz's E also cancels death mark. As well, Fizz can out trade Zed in every stage of the game after he gets a sheen item. Annie and Ahri are also good options, due to their CC. Riven work well against his kit as well since she can dodge his poke with E and W him as soon as he lands.

Or even Akali and Gragas can work well against him. For Akali, just W the moment he ults to escape and with Gragras, ult when he ults and out poke him in lane.

I play Zed frequently myself and I won't deny that he is a tad bit better than most mid laners; however, some champions such as Fizz or Annie can shut him down so hard that if he does get nerfed, every time a Zed gets matched with one of his counters will guarantee a lost for his team as he does not bring any especially purposeful utility in team fights.

Man he is in every game, it's a little annoying.

Frankly I think Zed is balanced currently.....but I find his Tower diving is a little TOO good. The champ I find who really needs a nerf is Akali.

The only reason you think Zed is OP is because you're in silver 2.

Climb a couple tiers and you'll see some people can beat him even with champions that don't make sense like Azir, who's weakness is supposed to be melee champions specifically Zed.

Congratz you ran into a Zed who floored your ass. It happens. Does not mean the champion is broken in any way, he's already lost half his power don't beg for them to take the other half just because you don't understand how to play against him.

rofl the fact that your complaining about zed.. my god you are pathetic. buy zhonyas negate his damage thank you come again.

I rarely have a problem dealing with a zed as syndra. Just ask for a blue buff as soon as possible to smash him into submission from afar.

Build zhonias asap and if you're experienced, try to have multiple orbs on the ground when you think he can ult you so you can do the same.

Yeah, I think that's what gets me, is that over half of the mid lane I face is made up of about half a dozen champions because there's almost no point beyond personal preference to choose them. *Katarina, Akali, Zed, Yasuo, Fizz, and usually Syndra/Orianna/Lissandra lately, but maybe those are just my games, meh.

what make a zed a problem imo is his passive and resourceless. cs'ing is way to easy. if he ult you which he is going to do when your at like 80% hp you are either going to pop a long cd defensive ability or die and then he just teleport away spamming /laugh. overall just way to safe for the reward he gets. there must be a reason why he is picked so much in all elos from wood to lcs, its has to be more then just he looks cool.

ShemsuHor11/24/2014, 11:22:49 PM1 votes

Just a skill match up. Every ap champ can get a zhonya's first. Save your CC til he ults? Zed still has skill shots make sure you're dodging shadow stars. As QSS also removes death mark.

Kowe The Ewok11/24/2014, 11:29:56 PM1 votes

Don't forget that he can WQW in less than a half second to poke from 1450 range. Not even Xerath can match that.

Ryvaku11/24/2014, 11:41:28 PM1 votes

When I see a Zed and the people on my team already chose their roles that leaves me mid. I'm gonna go Fizz since a Zed can't ult me at all since I always save my E for it. ;o

But I do agree that Zed needs a nerfing as well as Fizz.

Zombi3Matter11/25/2014, 1:10:09 AM1 votes

Yasuo counters Zed nicely.

You can rush a Zhonya's Hourglass (usually after Tear of the Goddess) as any AP champion and ignore his ultimate. The only issue is making sure not to be harassed down or die early. I usually take scaling CDR glyphs when using this build to make up for the lack of Athene's Unholy Grail.

AD Champions can, later in the game, purchase a Quicksilver Sash to remove his ultimate from themselves.
Resurrection abilities, such as item 3026 Zilean Yorick are also useful when trying to handle Zed.

Other champions capable of countering Zed include, but are not limited to: Kayle Chogath Karma Lissandra Lulu Malzahar Riven Yasuo Zilean
