Teach me, senpai

What's the Twisted Treeline meta right now? I want to start playing some ranked with my friends, but I don't have enough deep knowledge of the map. What do you need to have on your team to win the game? Is it worth to have a jungler? How do you play against a duo lane if you have a jungler? What do you do if the situation is the other way around? How much is the value of the altars? How much is the value of Wilelmaw? Which team comp is the best: early, mid, or late game? What champions are pick/ban worthy?

Check out the Shadow Isles site. There's a fairly long guide to TT written by the guys there. That'll probably be much more in-depth than any answers you'll find here.

I'm not good at TT by any means, but this is what I've noticed-

  • Jungle is 100% now. Anyone can jungle, it's inefficient not to have one.
  • Altars are pretty big, one gives move speed, controlling both gives a heal on minion kill. You're at a disadvantage from MS veiwpoint.
  • Frost Queens Claim is pretty big. Champions with traps / map control mechanics are nice also.
  • Rek'sai and Poppy are pretty high teir, not sure beyond that. From what I've seen, it's typically two fighters and a mage, or a tank. Dedicated adc / support role seems kind of rare.
  • Vilemaw is effectively baron. The buff it gives is huge, It's incredibly important. You usually want to keep vision on it.
  • If you are 1v2, laugh. It's the same thing as having 2 top lane in SR. Respectable early, but the second you hit mid game, they're dead.

All of this

Damage is what wins on this map, even characters that are supposed to TANK (sejuani, Nautilus) build AP/tank items.

if you're meant to tank normally, you're an off-tank now, if you're meant to be a glass canon, well now your made a slightly tough plastic lol.

I advise having one basic attack hyper carry though (yi, yasuo, jax, some marksmen, etc.) because thornmail does not exist and if you do make a game last long enough into really late one of them can win the whole thing pretty easily.

Support meta is still viable. It trades mid-game strength for early-game map pressure. Done well, you can deny both the enemy top-laner and jungler. Plus, Marksman+Support will tend to win late-game. It's also not that inefficient, since you can farm the jungle between waves.

Back when I played, the meta was, 2 Bruisers, and an AP Burst.

I've heard debate whether to go with a Jungler, or with a Duo lane. Though personally, I would go with a Jungler. But you would want someone with good gank potential, as actual Jungle farm is kinda limited.

Since the map lacks wards. Anyone with a in built trap will help you secure vision on the map.

Given that it's only 3v3, you want to pick champs who specialize in small skirmishes, rather than big teamfights. But with the small map, expect those skirmishes and not so much duels. Basically, you really want a team that synergizes well with eachother.

Vilemaw, is really hard to contest. While not quite as bad as fighting the Baron, It's really hard to solo, and since your 3v3, it wouldn't be worth if you so much as lose a singe member if a fight breaks out.
